Because of design and manufacturing costs, it is important to predict an expected life of bellows with component stresses of bellows as its design factors and material characteristics. In this study, numerical analyses are carried out to elucidate the thermal and flow characteristics of the bellows-seal gate and globe valves for high temperature (max. $600^{\circ}C$) and for high pressure (max. $104 kgf/cm^2$) conditions. Using commercial codes, FLUENT, which uses FVM and SIMPLE algorithm, and ANSYS, which uses FEM, the pressure and temperature fields are graphically depicted. In addition, when bellows have an axial displacement, thermal stress affecting bellows life is studied. The pressure and temperature values obtained from the flow analyses are adopted as the boundary conditions for thermal stress analyses. As the result of this study, we got the reasonable coefficients for valve and thermal stress for bellows, compared with existing coefficients and calculated values.

This study investigates the safety assessment of the potential for fretting-wear damages on steam generator (SG) U-tubes caused by foreign object in operating nuclear power plants. The operating SG shell-side flow field conditions are obtained from three-dimensional SG flow calculation using the ATHOS3 code. Modal analyses are performed for the finite element modelings of U-tubes to get the natural frequency, corresponding mode shape and participation factor. The wear rate of U-tube caused by foreign object is calculated using the Archard formula and the remaining life of the tube is predicted. Also, discussed in this study is the effect of the flow velocity and vibration of the tube on the remaining life of the tube.
From numerical point of view on flow network system analyses, stagnation properties are not preserved along streamlines across geometric discontinuities. Hence, GJM and DTM using ghost cell and thermodynamic relations are developed to preserve the stagnation enthalpy for the boundaries, such as the interfaces between junction and branches and the interface between two pipes of different cross-sections in serial pipelines. Additionally, the resolving power and efficiencies of the 2nd order Godunov type FV schemes are investigated and estimated by the tracing of the total mechanical energy during calculating rapid transients. Among the approximate Riemann solvers, RoeM is more suitable with the proposed boundary treatments especially for junction than Roe's FDS because of its conservativeness of stagnation enthalpy across geometric discontinuities.

Numerical analyses were performed to investigate the characteristics of regenerator in oscillating flow by using moving boundary method and Darcy model. In this work, periodic adiabatic boundary condition was suggested as the boundary condition of adiabatic part so that the effects of the thermal inertia of the wall could be considered. In carrying out numerical analyses, two models were applied and compared. One called isotropic model has the same thermal conductivity in radial and axial directions within a porous media. The other called aeolotropic model has different conductivity in each directions. Isotropic model could not show the advantage of energy reduction which needs to maintain constant wall temperature difference between heater and cooler. But aeolotropic model could simulate the reduction of energy consumption.
Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. In some cases, that approximation causes significant errors due to loss of geometrical information as well as simplification of the flow characteristics along the thickness direction. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the classical shell-based approach. The Proposed approach is then applied to predict product defects and to improve flow characteristics for a precision electronics part. In addition, design of experiment has been utilized in order to find the optimal process conditions for better product quality.

In this study, steady and unsteady aerodynamic analyses of a huge rocket configuration have been conducted in a transonic flow region. The launch vehicle structural response are coupled with the transonic flow state transitions at the nose of the payload fairing. The developed fluid-structure coupled analysis system is applied for aeroelastic computations combining computational structural dynamics(CSD), finite element method(FEM) and computational fluid dynamics(CFD) in the time domain. It can give very accurate and useful engineering data on the structural dynamic design of advanced flight vehicles. For the nonlinear unsteady aerodynamics in high transonic flow region, Navier-Stokes equations using the structured grid system have been applied to the rocket configurations. Also, it is typically shown that the current computation approach can yield realistic and practical results for rocket design and test engineers.
The functions of the plug valve are the control of flow rate as well closing and opening pipe lines. Analyses on the flow characteristics in plug valve port are required to improve the performance and safety at severe operating conditions such as high-pressure and high-temperature. In this study, numerical analyses are carried out with varying the opening rate (fraction of the full open to close) of the valve and the shapes of valve Uk: straight, convex, concave and mixed shapes. The parameters influencing the flow characteristics in the valve are the discharge coefficient( $C_v$) and the resistance coefficient( K). Therefore, the distributions of static pressure, velocity vector and stream lines are investigated, and $C_v$ and K are calculated in each opening rate and shape. In case of full open, the static pressure passed through the valve port has almost been recovered. However, in case of other opening rates, the pressure does not permanently regained due to pressure drop leading to loss. This phenomenon in each shape of the valve shows the different behaviors. Calculation results show that the mixed shape has the best flow attribute.
In a CANDU (CANada Deuterium Uranium) reactor, fuel channel integrity depends on the coolability of the moderator as an ultimate heat sink under transient conditions such as a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) with coincident loss of emergency core cooling (LOECC), as well as normal operating conditions. This study presents assessments of moderator thermal-hydraulic characteristics in the normal operating conditions and one transient condition for CANDU-6 reactors, using a general purpose three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics code. First, an optimized calculation scheme is obtained by many-sided comparisons of the predicted results with the related experimental data, and by evaluating the fluid flow and temperature distributions. Then, using the optimized scheme, analyses of real CANDU-6 in normal operating conditions and the transition condition have been performed. The present model successfully predicted the experimental results and also reasonably assessed the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of a real CANDU-6 with 380 fuel channels. A flow regime map with major parameters representing the flow pattern inside a calandria vessel has also proposed to be used as operational and/or regulatory guidelines.
