The fuel rods in the Pressurized water reactor are continuously supported by a spring system called a spacer grid which is one of the main structural components for the fuel rod cluster(fuel assembly). The fuel rods vibrate within the reactor due to coolant flow. Since the vibration, which is called flow-induced vibration(FIV) can wear away the surface of the fuel rod, it is important to understand it's vibration characteristics. In this paper, the vibration analyses and the tests for the dummy rods supported by New Doublet(ND) spacer grids are described. A new FE model which reflects the contact area between the rod and ND spacer grid spring is developed to replace the previous one by which a good agreement could not be obtained with the vibration test. The natural frequency and mode shape calculated by both the Previous FE model and the new one are compared with those of experiment for a single-spanned rod supported by two ND spacer grids. The results of the new model showed good agreement with the experiment compared with those of previous model. In addition. the new FE model is applied to the vibration analysis for the dummy rod of 2.189 mm tall continuously supported by five ND spacer grids. It is also obtained that the analysis results of the new FE model well agreed to experiment ones as the single-spanned rod.
A few Humidifier have vibration problems caused by velocity of flow, piping vibration and karman vortex. The crack is generated on pipe wall and humidifier are damaged. Vibration analysis is conducted to prevent pipe damage during the design. But the other problem are caused after analysis of vibration. Therefore in this paper, the vibration and static analysis have been measured and analyzed for pipes and curve. Also modal test is conducted for analysis of natural frequency.
The fluid-elastic instability analysis of the U-tube bundle inside the steam generator is very important not only for detailed design stage of the SG but also for the change of operating condition of the nuclear powerplant. However the calculation procedure for the fluid-elastic instability was so complicated that the consolidated computer program has not been developed until now. In this study, the numerical calculation procedure and the computer program to obtain the stability ratio were developed. The thermal-hydraulic data in the region of secondary side of steam generator was obtained from executing the ATHOS3 code. The distribution of the fluid density can be calculated by using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was required to calculate natural frequency and dynamic mode shape using the ANSYS ver. 5.6 code. Finally, stability ratios for selected tubes of the CE type steam generator were computed. We considered the YGN 3.4 nuclear powerplant as the model plant, and stability ratios were investigated at the flow exit region of the U-tube. From our results, stability ratios at the central and the outside region of the tube bundle are much higher than those of other region.
A flow induced mechanical vibration and acoustic resonance should be considered at design stage because they are mainly occurred in the tube bank of boiler. Acoustic resonance is occurred when the vortex shedding frequency of tube bank coincides with the acoustic natural frequency of the cavity. Effective solution to avoid acoustic resonance is installing acoustic baffles in the tube banks parallelly inside of the flow cavity. Thus, location and number of acoustic baffles should be exactly calculated to eliminate the acoustic resonance. This paper presents case study of acoustic resonance due to inappropriate number and location of acoustic baffles. Measured frequency and mode in the study is verified by FEM acoustic modal analysis. The number and location of acoustic baffles to avoid acoustic resonance are calculated by using FEM acoustic modal analysis.

Nuclear fuel with a big slenderness ratio is susceptible to flow-induced vibration under very severe conditions of high temperature, high flow and exposure to irradiation in nuclear reactor. The fuel assembly should, therefore, be designed to escape any resonance due to the vibration during the reactor operation, in particular, in case of the design changes. In addition, the amplitudes due to the grid vibration, the fuel rod vibration and the fuel assembly vibration should be minimized to reduce the grid-to-rod fretting wear. Fuel assembly vibration tests in air at room temperature and in water at high temperature have been performed to investigate fuel vibration behaviors. The frequency and damping during the test in air have been compared to those in water. Through the hydraulic test, the advanced assembly has been evaluated not to be susceptible to any resonance. In addition, the test data from the tests can be used to make fuel model and to evaluate grid-to-rod fretting wear.
Fluid-elastic instability and turbulence excitation for an under developing steam generator are investigated numerically. The stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulence excitation are obtained by using the PIAT (Program for Integrity Assessment of Steam Generator Tube) code from the information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator. The aspect ratio, the ratio between the height of U-tube from the upper most tube support plate (h) and the width of two vertical portion of U-tube (w), is defined for geometric parameter study. Several aspect ratios with relocation of tube support plates are adopted to study the effects on the mode shapes and characteristics of flow-induced vibration. When the aspect ratio exceeds value of 1, most of the mode shapes at low frequency are generated at the top of U-tube. It makes very high value of the stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulent excitation as well. We can consider that the local mode shape at the upper side of U-tube will develop the wear phenomena between the tube and the anti-vibration bars such as vertical, horizontal, and diagonal strips. It turns out that the aspect ratio reveals very important parameter for the design stage of the steam generator. The appropriate value of the aspect ratio should be specified and applied.
We experimentally attempted to understand the vibration characteristics of a flexible pipe excited by vortex shedding. This has been extensively studied in the past decades (For example, see [2-9]). However, there are still areas that need more study. One of them is to study the relation between spatial characteristics of a flow induced vibrating pipe, such as its length, the distribution of wave number, and frequency responses. A non-linear mechanism between the responses of in-line and cross-flow directions is also an area of interests, if the pipe is relatively long so that structural modal density is reasonably high. In order to investigate such areas, two kinds of instrumented pipe were designed. The instrumented pipes, of which the lengths are equally 6m, are wound with rubber and silicon tape in different ways, having different vortex shedding conditions. One has uniform cross-section of diameter of 26. 7mm, and the other has equally spaced by 4 sub-sections, which are composed of different diameters of 75.9, 61.1, 45.6 and 26.7mm. Both pipes are towed in a water tank (200m ${\times}$ 16m ${\times}$ 7m) so that they experienced different vortex shedding excitations. The towing pipe experiments exhibit several valuable features. One of them is that the natural frequencies and their corresponding strain mode shapes dominate the strain response of the uniform pipe. However, for those of non-uniform pipe, the responses are more likely local and many modes participate in it.
Fluid-elastic instability and turbulence excitation for an under developing steam generator are investigated numerically. The stability ratio and the amplitude of turbulence excitation are obtained by using the $PIAT^{(R)}$ (program for integrity assessment of steam generator tube) code from the information on the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator. The aspect ratio, the ratio between the height of U-tube from the upper most tube support Plate (h) and the width of two vertical portion of U-tube (w), is defined for geometric parameter study. We can consider that the local mode shape at the upper side of U-tube will develop the wear phenomena between the tube and the anti-nitration bars such as vortical, horizontal, and diagonal strips. It turns out that the aspect ratio reveals very important parameter for the design stage of the steam generator. The appropriate value of the aspect ratio should be specified and applied.
Static and oscillatory loss of stability of composite pipes conveying fluid is Investigated. The theory of than walled beams is applied and transverse shear. rotary inertia, primary and secondary warping effects are incorporated. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's variational principle. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions are transformed to an eigenvlaue problem which provides the Information about the dynamic characteristics of the system. Numerical analysis is performed by using extended Gelerkin method. Variation of critical velocity of fluid with fiber angles and mass patios of fluid to pipe Including fluid is investigated.
