  • Dissolved air flotation (DAF), in which suspended solids are removed from water by means of micro-size air bubbles raising slowly up in water and lifting solids from water (smaller than those) attached onto the micro-bubbles as well as those (larger than solids) being attached on these, have been used in water and wastewater since 1920s. The dissolved air flotation technology was originally based on the laminar flow conditions prevailing in water to be treated, but the latest development in that technology has led now to a situation, in which the flow conditions may also be turbulent ones in the modem dissolved air flotation units. Despite of that, the flotation phenomenon used in this unit operation for removal suspended solids from water or wastewater is still the same.

  • Although cleaner and cheaper deinking of ONP could be performed at the neutral or low alkaline condition excessive loss from froth-flotation is unavoidable and so reduction of alkali or caustic soda dosage sacrifices recycling yield. Now the new trade-off regarding alkali dosage versus flotation yield is urgently required in order to set the optimized neutral or low alkaline deinking process of ONP. Lipase from Thermomyces Lanuginosus has an effect on desizing and deacetylation reaction and it could be applied to the stock of pre flotation secondary stage in order to reduce the flotation reject without the sacrifice of optical properties of flotation accepts. Instead of inorganic base, lipase could be applied as a biochemical catalyst for the selective modification of valuable hydrophobic particles in deinking stock, for example cellulose fines and inorganic fillers covered by hydrophobic additives or contaminants. When the enzymatic hydrolysis of ester bond could be made on the surface of hydrophobic particulates, unwanted float of fine particles could be prevented. Now the enhancement of flotation selectivity or the modification of the hydrophobicity of deinking stock is expected to be promoted by the enzymatic pre treatment. And the reduction of recycling cost with the saves of raw material, recovered paper would be possible as a result.

  • The variable flotation response ores from different deposits results basically from mineralogical association and their differences. Development of new techniques for analyzing the metallurgical performance of flotation and other concentration processes is demanded even in the treatment of rather simple ores such as porphyry ores. Diagnostic metallurgical analysis can be used to quantify the most possible recovery processes. Several porphyry copper/gold ores around the world were used to examine the responses in flotation, gravity separation and cyanidation in order to define the linkage between the recovery processes for both copper and old values. Laboratory batch flotation, gravity separation and cyanidation tests were carried out on these samples. All results were used to correlate the relative recovery of copper and gold, and to predict the highest possible metal recovery in the system. The metallurgical predictions were made according to the flotation conditions used and gravity separation. The results of various concentration processes on each porphyry ore samples are presented and discussed. All seven samples have shown significantly different gold/copper metallurgy. The grade/recovery relationships of gold and copper in the laboratory batch tests for the best results and the plants are given in the Figures below. The results of laboratory tests show that the copper recoveries converged to about $90\%$, but the gold recoveries were spread over $55-80\%$, except the K S ore. Series of standard cyanidation tests on the flotation concentrate samples and gravity separation using Knelson Separator on heads ores were carried out to cross-link the metallurgy and mineralogy of gold in the porphyry ores.

  • The main sources of recovered paper for newsprint are old newsprint (ONP) and old magazine (OMG). Recently, a lot of advertisement flyers are flowing into bales of ONP and portion of OMG is increasing in recovered paper because the consumption level of coated paper increases. In this study, nonionic surfactant and fatty acid were used as the de-inking agent for froth-flotation process of mixed recovered paper to investigate the effect of increased mixing ratio of OMG. De-inking efficiency of nonionic surfactant decreased as the mixing ratio of OMG increased; ink removal efficiency of froth-flotation is poor, however, the reject ratio increases due to ash from OMG. In comparison with nonionic surfactant, the ash from OMG had a little effect on reject ratio and optical properties of fatty acid applied flotation accept. If nonionic surfactant and fatty acid are added to pulper and flotation cell sequentially, excessive ash from OMG may not give an adverse effect on de-inking efficiency of mixed recovered paper.

  • Froth flotation of complex copper ore from Indonesia Jambi mine has been carried out to produce high-grade Cu concentrate. Since the ore contained minor Cu sulfides in addition to major Cu carbonate (malachite), copper concentrate was recovered by two-stage process of flotation, which consisted of copper sulfide flotation using xanthate followed by copper oxide flotation using oleic acid. The copper sulfide concentrate of 57.5% Cu grade with 9.5% recovery was obtained by copper sulfide flotation under conditions of 300 g/t collector (1 : 1 mixture of xanthate series Aero Promoter 211 and Aero Promoter 242) and pH 6.0 pulp. In subsequent copper oxide flotation on sink products, the concentrate of 30.8% Cu grade with 92.1% recovery was obtained under the conditions of oleic acid 300 g/t, AF65 50 g/t, pH 8.0 and 2 times cleaning. The flotation techniques which can achieve a Cu grade of 36.1% and a recovery of 92.1% have been developed from the two-stage process of flotation.

  • A series of laboratory experiments carried out to investigate the particle separation efficiency and flotation characteristics using $CO_2$ bubbles. The primary objective of this study was to find out the feasibility of $CO_2$ bubbles as an applicable unit of flotation process in tap-water and wastewater treatment plant. The fundamental measurements were conducted to characterize the $CO_2$ bubble from the physical viewpoint in water including bubble size distribution and rising velocity under various operational conditions. In addition, the removal efficiency of solid was experimented using the lab scale plant applied $CO_2$ bubbles, namely the dissolved carbon dioxide flotation (DCF) process. The DCF process using carbon dioxide bubble, which is an advantage as the decrease and the reuse of Green-House gas, can be a promising technology as an water treatment process. On the other hand, the further research to decrease the bubble size distribution of $CO_2$ is required to enhance the particle separation efficiency.

  • Magnetic separation and sulphidization-flotation for recovery of nickel and copper from two types of scraped condenser wastes, containing 8- l4% nickel and 2-4% copper, were studied. The effects of magnetic field intensities, classification, and grinding on the recovery of nickel and copper were investigated. According to the characteristics of nickel and copper in the scraps, classification-magnetic separation, different magnetic field intensities, and stages-grinding-cleaning of rough concentrate were investigated. The nickel concentrates containing 38-65% nickel with 84-97% recoveries and the copper concentrates containing 25-43% nickel with 35-60% recoveries were obtained by classification-magnetic separation. In addition, copper concentrates containing 26-45% copper with 76-88% recoveries were obtained by sulphidization-flotation from magnetic tailings and middling products.

  • Almost all copper slags contain a considerable amount of Cu (0.5 - 3.7%) close to or even higher than copper ores. A number of methods for metal recovery from copper slag were reported These methods can be classified into three categories, flotation, leaching and roasting. Sulfide flotation method for the recovery of copper from Kazahstan copper furnace slag is discussed in this investigation. 50% of copper from the slag was recovered by sulfide flotation at pH 4. meanwhile 67% of copper from the slag was recovered at pH 11. Higher copper recovery result at pH 11 rather than that at pH 4 was caused by the fact that copper sulfides were floated in particle size fraction over $100{\mu}m$ in concentrates at pH 11. When the slag were ground below $74{\mu}m$by ball milling, the recovery of copper by floation in slag improved to 78 - 83% because of copper liberation effect.

  • In this paper, result of whole test, When the Transfer Distance is increasing, Strength of Backfilling Material of NATM Composite lining Tunnel due to increasing Gravity was increased, but that is higher the Air Flotation than increasing Strength. So, That was predicted a drop of Permeability. And Performing the placing Lightweight Foamed Mortar, we think that it's performance in drain material was lost. Therefore We conclude that Proper Transfer Distance that taking Permeability through minimizing of Air Flotation Loss and getting the Need Strength is 50m.
