A Numerical Study on Pontoon Type Floating Breakwaters in Oblique Waves

  • A numerical investigation was made to examine characteristics of rectangular pontoon type floating breakwaters in oblique waves. Sway and heave wave exciting forces, roll moment acting on the floating breakwater and three motion reponses decrease as the incident wave angle increases for the most of the wave ranges. There exists a minimum wave transmission coefficient which is a function of wave frequency. In short wave range wave transmission coefficient increases as the incident wave angle increases. In long wave range, however, wave transmission coefficient decreases as the wave incident angle increases.

  • This part of specifies the method for determining the dynamic stiffness of resilient materials used under floating floors. Dynamic stillness is one of the parameters that determine the sound insulation of such floors in dwellings. This part applies to the determination of dynamic stiffness per unit area of resilient materials with smooth surfaces used in a continuous layer under floating floors in dwellings.

Development of Gastric Retentive Bi-layered Tablet using Floating Drug Delivery System (부유 기술을 이용한 위체류 이중정의 개발)

  • The aim of this study was to develop gastric retentive bi-layered tablet using floating drug delivery technique. Metformin was selected as a model drug due to its narrow absorption window as well as very highly water solubility. These properties of metformin led to be difficult controlling the drug release. The bi-layered tablet was prepared with bi-layered compression machine to minimize interference between floating part and controlling part. The tablet weight, appearance and hardness were evaluated after compression process. The times of 'time to floating' and 'Floating duration' were tested for floating ability and drug release study was also carried out to understand drug release behavior. Furthermore, the drug release of bi-layered tablet was compared with marketed metformin tablet with sustained release pattern (Glucopharge XR$^{(R)}$).The floating ability and drug release behaviors were well controlled by changing amounts of $NaHCO_3$ (floating substance) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC; release control material). Bi-layered tablet had 13s of time to float, over 10h of floating duration and very similar drug release behavior compared with Glucopharge XR$^{(R)}$($f_2$: 89.6). Consequently, the bi-layered tablet with floating ability was successfully prepared and these properties can maximize the efficacy of metformin.

  • Since the shipbuilding industry is at its peak to assimilate the large volume of orders in recent years, the Floating Dock has been an alternative to the dry dock which takes a certain period of time to build. Hence the use of Floating Dock is steadily increasing. Since the Skid Launching System(SLS) is used in Floating Dock, the balancing of the ship while launching is important and achieved by adjusting the Ballast tank of the Floating Dock. In this paper a Floating Dock Control Simulator for SLS is developed through the on-line interface of VRC(Valve Remote Control), Tank Level & Draft Measuring System and Valve Control algorithm on Simulation Tank Plan.

  • In this study, a new type floating breakwater was proposed to improve the capability of wave attenuation compared with the existing floating breakwater in Wonjun Port, which is located in Masan City, Korea. In order to develop the optimal design, many different configurations considering the shape and location of vertical barrier and horizontal plate were examined based on the shape of existing floating breakwaters in Wonjun and Tongyeong Port. The analytical and numerical results of the new type floating breakwater showed better performance in long-period wave attenuation than the existing floating breakwater in Wonjun. Therefore, the new type floating breakwater can improve harbor tranquility in Wonjun Port.

  • This investigation is performed to prepare reducing method drained floating debris from the river This paper is present an investigation result of the marine debris characteristics that drained from korea 4 big river(han river, kum river, youngsan river, nakdong river) during July and August. A mount of floating debris different with rainfall. Short heavy rain like as 150mm/day floating debris drained lower, almost floating debris drained when a flooding cause by continuance heavy rain. Floating debris draining is not continuance, but concentrated on a flooding. All debris is do not drained ocean, a lot of debris accumulated riverside. Floating debris is drained with plant and configuration is similar with other river. But, the component ratio is different, so that, to Prepare removing method for floating debris consider that effect of plant debris.

  • Recently constructed several floating buildings, in Korea, provoked the discussion about the activation of floating architecture. But, there is no guideline for the planning of floating architecture in Korea. This study aims to propose the framework of planning guidelines for the superstructure of floating architecture. For the purpose, collected various exiting guidelines related to floating architecture, and then analysed the structure and components of those guidelines. As a result of analysis, many components, could be used as references, are extracted. After the classification of the components into several categories, then, compared the content of components, derived from different guidelines, in same category. Based on the former analysis and comparison, proposed the framework of planning guidelines for the superstructure of floating architecture, consist of various set of components.

Estimation of Dynamic Motions and Mooring Forces for Floating Type Offshore Platform Based on Hydrodynamic Analysis (동수력학 해석 기반 부유식 해양 플랫폼의 동적 운동 및 계류력 산정)

  • This paper deals with numerical analyses in the context of estimations of hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads for a floating type offshore platform using some exclusive simulation code such as code for the simulation of a floating type of offshore crane based on multi-body dynamics, along with the commercial code AQWA. Verifications of numerical models are carried out by comparing the RAO results from the simulation code. In the verification analyses, hydrodynamic motions are examined in the frequency domain for the floating type offshore platform according to the mooring lines. Both the hydrodynamic motions and dynamic loads are estimated for floating type offshore platforms equipped with the catenary type and taut mooring lines. A review and comparison are carried out for the numerically estimated results. The structural safety of the connection parts in an offshore structure such as a floating type offshore platform is one of the most important design criteria in view of fatigue life. The dynamic loads in the connecting area between a floating type offshore platform and its mooring lines are estimated in detail according to variations in the mechanical properties of the mooring lines. The dynamic tension load on the mooring lines is also estimated.

  • In recent years, the repairing work of the small boats in dock have pointed out a defects of the many FRP shipbuiling because of a term of works and working-space and man-power. In the paper, By carried out the model tests and structure analysis of the floating dock were mainly drawing on the concept design of the floating dock systems that the above defects were solved.

A Study on Architectural Type and Design Characteristics of Floating Architecture (플로팅건축의 유형 및 디자인 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Floating architecture is the most effective way to accommodate itself to sea-level rise due to climate change. At the same time floating architecture is the best model to offer the new spatial experience through water-friendly environment. Domestic floating architecture is still on the early stage compared to Europe which has several companies specialized in designing and building floating architecture. Floating architecture is divided into 8 types according to its criteria such as program, form, scale, level, location, access, mobility and energy. The following are design characteristics of floating architecture : (1) composed of 2 stories, (2) having large deck, (3) designing rectangular plan and balanced mass, (4) maximizing view, (5) having water-friendly space, (6) multi-using space and minimizing surface, (7) planning section to control light reflecting from the water, (8) modular and unit system.
