Thermal Vacuum Test of Kaistsat-4 Qm (과학위성 1호 인증모델 열진공 시험)

  • KAISTSAT- 4, an experimental small satellite, is being developd by Satellite Technology Research Center in KAIST as a sequel mission to KITSAT-1, 2, and 3. The flight model scheduled to be launched in 2003, the qualification model construction and testing have been completed recently. The satellite subsystems of the qualification model have been tested under a thermal vacuum environment harsher than expected in the orbit. Thermal balance test has also been done in order to evaluate and tune the thermal analysis model of the qualification model. This paper describes the thermal vacuum test procedure, the results, as well as the lessons learned during the tests, which can be useful for future thermal vacuum tests of small satellites.

Static Aeroelastic Analysis for Aircraft Wings using CFD/CST Coupling Methodology (전산유체/전산구조 연계 방법을 사용한 항공기날개의 정적 공탄성 해석)

  • A static aeroelastic analysis for supersonic aircraft wing equipped with external store under the wing lower surface is performed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural technology(CST) coupling methodology. Two mapping algorithms, which are the pressure mapping algorithm and the displacement mapping algorithm, are used for CFD/CST coupling. A three-dimensional unstructured Euler code and finite element analysis program are used to calculate the flow properties and the structural displacements, respectively. The coupling procedure is repeated in an iterative manner until a specified convergence criterion is satisfied. Static aeroelastic analysis for a typical supersonic flight wing is performed and final converged wing configuration is obtained after several iterations.

Navigation Augmentation in Urban Area by HALE UAV with Onboard Pseudolite during Multi-Purpose Missions

  • Among various applications of the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), this paper has a focus on the Global Positioning System (GPS) utilizing pseudolite and its improved performance, particularly during the multi-purpose missions. In a multi-purpose mission, the HALE UAV follows a specified flight trajectory for both navigation applications and missions. Some of the representative HALE missions are remote exploration, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communication relay. During these operations, the HALE UAV can also be an additional positioning signal source as it broadcast signals using pseudolite. The pseudolite signal can improve the availability, accuracy, and reliability of the GPS particularly in areas with poor signal reception, such as shadowed regions between tall buildings. The improvement in performance of navigation is validated through simulations of multi-purpose missions of the solar-powered HALE UAV in an urban canyon. The simulation includes UAV trajectory generation at stratosphere and uses actual geographical building data. The results indicate that the pseudolite-equipped HALE UAV has the potential to enhance the performance of the satellite navigation system in navigationally degraded regions even during multi-purpose operations.

  • KASI is developing the MIRIS (Multi-purpose IR Imaging System), as the main payload of Science and Technology Satellite-3 (STSAT-3). The Engineering Qualification Model (EQM) of the MIRIS has been recently fabricated, and Flight Model (FM) is now in final development stage. The system performance tests have been made mainly with EQM, and partly with FM in the laboratory, including opto-mechanics test, vibration test, thermal-vacuum test and passive cooling test down to 200K, using a thermal controlled vacuum chamber. Most of the system performance test results of the MIRIS are satisfied with the required specifications and its results were reflected in development of the FM with several revisions of the system design. In this paper, we present detailed system performance test procedures of the MIRIS and its results.

  • The drones, developed for military use, have recently expanded a wide range of areas of use, including agriculture, industry, broadcasting utility, police, fire fighting and leisure. Drone, combined with IT technology, is further expanding its utilization and emerging as a key part of the fourth industry. Purpose: This study designs and implements drones that can be utilized in disaster prevention areas such as disaster prevention, preparedness and response. Method: This study was conducted by examining hardware drone specifications and developing a program suitable for the purpose of research based on the literature review. Result: In this study, we developed a drone that can be controlled remotely, investigated program plans for drone remote control, and developed a program that enables remote control broadcasting from drones. Conclusion: The drone could be used in the disaster area based on functions such as remote control and remote broadcasting.

Structural Characterization of Physiologically Active Polysaccharides from Natural Products (Arabidopsis)

  • To determine the functions of specific cell wall polysaccharides, polysaccharides of three mutants, mur3-1, mur3-2, and mur3-3, obtained from Arabidopsis wild type, underwent structural characterization. Upon sequential separation of pectins (RG-I and RG-II) and cross-linking glycans (xyloglucan, XG), only XG was affected by the mud mutation. Wild-type XG contained a considerable amount of fucose, whereas the fucose level in mur3 XGs was less than 20% that of wild type. Further analysis of XGs by matrix-assisted laser-induced/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry indicated that mud lines considerably or completely lost the fucosylated XG oligosaccharides such as XXFG and XLFG and the double-galactosylated oligosaccharide XLLG $^1H$-NMR spectroscopic analyses of the XG oligosaccharides from mur3-3 plant revealed the absence of fucose and a galactose level in the galactosylated side chain that was reduced by 40% compared to that of Arabidopsis wild-type plant. In contrast, 85% less fucose and a slight loss of galactose were observed in the mur3-1 and mur3-2 lines which show normal growth habit. Of the three Arabidopsis mur3 lines studied here, mur3-3 is disrupted by a T-DNA insertion in the exon of MUR3 which encodes XG-specific galactosyltransferase, and exhibits slight dwarfism. These results indicated that the T-DNA insertion at the MUR3 locus did not induce the complete loss of galactose in XG, and that galactose, rather than fucose, in the XG side chains made a major contribution to overall wall strength.

  • When a straight-in landing from an instrument approach using ILS or VOR/DME is not possible or desirable because of topographical reason or bad weather, a circling approach maneuver is initiated by the pilot to align the aircraft with a runway for landing. Visual contact with the runway is necessary while conducting a circle to land maneuver. This research is to develop a new warning system based on a convention marker system which alerts pilots to watch out for exceeding the circling approach area. The airborne system also uses the same receiver unit without any new installations. The objective of this research is to design and develop a Yagi antenna in a special form. The research includes computer simulations to determine the size of antenna radiation pattern and to compute an expected flight path in case of alarm to validate effectiveness of the system.

  • Motivated by continuous increase in flight demand, awareness of the importance in developing ways to increase aircraft operational efficiency on the airport movement area has been raised. This paper proposes a new routing algorithm for providing the shortest path in a right time, enhancing the aircraft movement efficiency. Many researches on developing algorithms have been performed, for example, Dijkstra algorithm and $A^*$ algorithm. The Dijkstra algorithm provide optimal solution but could possibly provide it with a cost of relatively longer computation time. On the other hand, $A^*$ algorithm does not guarantee the optimality of a solution. In this paper, we suggest a Hybrid $A^*$ algorithm, incorporating both algorithms to eliminate the weaknesses. Rigorous test shows the proposed Hybrid $A^*$ algorithm may achieve shorter computing time and optimality in searching the shortest path.

Design of Interrogator for Airspace Surveillance in Multilateration Systems (항공용 다변측정 감시시스템 적용을 위한 질문기 설계)

  • Multilateration systems are used to provide the position of aircraft in flight or on airport runways. In the multilateration systems, the interrogator is an important transmitter that used to interrogate the airplanes with appropriately scenario in surveillance airspace. Whisper-Shout interrogation sequence, which is one of the key functions of the interrogator, can control airport traffic density when intruder airplanes are coming into the surveillance airspace. Therefore collision chance between airplanes could be reduced and also get highly accurate location of incoming airplane in multilateration systems. In this paper, we developed the interrogator that allows it to transmit Mode A/C and Mode S interrogations which is similar to existing secondary surveillance radar. With appropriately controlled Whisper-Shout sequence in the interrogator, the multilateration systems can avoid synchronous garbling and FRUIT phenomenons caused by receiving multiple responses from a number of airplanes.

  • In this paper are This paper is about the efficient use operational management plan for the metropolitan public Jamsil heliport. First, understand the general operations and facilities to Jamsil heliport and raised the issue for them. And, in cases such as urban offshore heliport Jamsil heliport in New York and Texas (USA), for example, which was presented for comparative analysis and Jamsil heliport in London (UK). Operations, research is seen against a facility to install and manage a couple of airfield operations based on the subject by presenting the alternatives, thereby causing the principal operating facilities, infrastructure and security facilities even suggest ways to enhance the standards. Unlike other countries, Jamsil heliport location characteristics were excluded from the study on the safety aspects related to flight operations and for this I'm a military airport facilities coexist in the neighborhood.
