The flight deck crew must manage complexity during daily flight operations. The Airline may obtain data regarding threats and errors through LOSA(Line Operations Safety Audits) on normal flights as predictive safety tool in Safety Management System of the Airline to actively improve the systems such as SOP(Standard Operation Procedure), training, evaluation and the TEM(Threat and Error Management) for the flight deck crew. The flight deck crew make errors when they fail managing threats. The crew mismanage around ten percent of threats and commit errors. The major mismanaged threats are aircraft malfunction, ATC(Air Traffic Communication), and wether threats. The effective countermeasures of TEM for manageing threats are leadership, workload management, monitor & cross check, Vigilance, communication environment and cooperation of the crew. It is important that organizations must monitor for the hazards of threats and improve system for the safer TEM environments.

Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), also known as Danuri, was successfully launched on 4 Aug. from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station using a Space-X Falcon-9 rocket. Flight dynamics (FD) operational readiness was one of the critical parts to be checked before the flight. To demonstrate FD software's readiness and enhance the operator's contingency response capabilities, KPLO FD specialists planned, organized, and conducted four simulations and two rehearsals before the KPLO launch. For the efficiency and integrity of FD simulation and rehearsal, different sets of blind test data were prepared, including the simulated tracking measurements that incorporated dynamical model errors, maneuver execution errors, and other errors associated with a tracking system. This paper presents the simulation and rehearsal results with lessons learned for the KPLO FD operational readiness checkout. As a result, every functionality of FD operation systems is firmly secured based on the operation procedure with an enhancement of contingency operational response capability. After conducting several simulations and rehearsals, KPLO FD specialists were much more confident in the flight teams' ability to overcome the challenges in a realistic flight and FD software's reliability in flying the KPLO. Moreover, the results of this work will provide numerous insights to the FD experts willing to prepare deep space flight operations.
As demand for best practices relative to flight test safety management operations and processes in the aviation industry grows, standards for such aspects of the industry in Korea should be examined. Therefore, in this paper, we conducted flight test operation processes and safety management program development studies based on documents related to flight tests of the Korean civil aviation KC-100, the military aircraft T-50, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), and CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China) for performance validation, test evaluation and safety certification for aircraft under development and remodeling. In addition, we introduced and analyzed best practices of the FTSC (Flight Test Safety Committee) applicable to aircraft flight test processes.

This paper presents the flight test procedure and the results for the airspeed indicator calibration of a light airplane the name of ChangGong-91, which is the first type certified aircraft from Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation, as a part of the flight test validation to get the certification. The flight tests for airspeed position error calibrations are conducted using tower fly by method in order to calibrate swivel head testboom which is attached to the right wing tip of the airplane. Also system to system method is applied in order to calibrate the airspeed indicator of the cockpit. The flight test is conducted at the basis of the 'Korean Airworthiness Standard' which is the regulation of Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation. The airspeed error range for the testboom and the airspeed indicator are determined to $-0.75{\sim}+0.75$ knot and to $-4.0{\sim}+2.0$ knots, respectively. The calibration results are applied to ChangGong-91 Flight Operation Manual.
BITSE is a project of balloon-borne experiments for a next-generation solar coronagraph developed by a collaboration with KASI and NASA. The coronagraph is built to observe the linearly polarized brightness of solar corona with a polarization camera, a filter wheel, and an aperture door. For the observation, the coronagraph is supported by the power distribution unit (PDU), a pointing system WASP (Wallops Arc-Second Pointer), telemetry & telecommand system SIP (Support Instrument Package) which are developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Wallops Flight Facility, and Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility. The BITSE Command and Data Handling (C&DH) system used a cost-off-the-shelf electronics to process all data sent and received by the coronagraph, including the support system operation by RS232/422, USB3, Ethernet, and digital and analog signals. The flight software is developed using the core Flight System (cFS) which is a reusable software framework and set of reusable software applications which take advantage of a rich heritage of successful space mission of NASA. The flight software can process encoding and decoding data, control the subsystems, and provide observation autonomy. We developed a python-based testing framework to improve software reliability. The flight software development is one of the crucial contributions of KASI and an important milestone for the next project which is developing a solar coronagraph to be installed at International Space Station.
Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite(KOMPSAT) is scheduled to be launched by TAURUS launch vehicle in November, 1999. Tracking, Telemetry and Command(TT&C) operation and the flight dynamics support should be performed for the successful Launch and Early Orbit Phase(LEOP) operation. After the first contact of the KOMPSAT spacecraft, initial orbit determination using ground based tracking data should be performed for the acquisition of the orbit. Although the KOMPSAT is planned to be directly inserted into the Sun- synchronous orbit of 685 km altitude, the orbit maneuvers are required fur the correction of the launch vehicle dispersion. Flight dynamics support such as orbit determination and maneuver planning will be performed by using KOMPSAT Mission Analysis and Planning Subsystem(MAPS) in KOMPSAT Mission Control Element(MCE). The KOMPSAT MAPS have been jointly developed by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) and Hyundai Space & Aircraft Company(HYSA). The KOMPSAT MCE was installed in Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) site for the KOMPSAT operation. In this paper, the orbit determination and maneuver planning are introduced and simulated for the KOMPSAT spacecraft in LEOP operation. Initial orbit determination using short arc tracking data and definitive orbit determination using multiple passes tracking data are performed. Orbit maneuvers for the altitude correction and inclination correction are planned for achieving the final mission orbit of the KOMPSAT.

Flight simulators are crucial devices for aircraft piloting training and simulation, requiring regular inspections to maintain performance and operational quality. This study explores the development of an automated inspection system for flight simulators to automate quality inspections of control loading systems (CLS). While quality inspection of the control loading system (CLS) is essential for flight simulators, manual inspections are common practice. To address this, we developed an Auto Qualification Test Guide (Auto QTG) using artificial control logic and sensor data and applied it to the militarily simulator. Experimental results demonstrate that Auto QTG successfully automates quality inspections of CLS, enhancing accuracy and efficiency. This automated inspection system is expected to contribute to improving the operation and maintenance of flight simulators.

In this paper, a total operating environment equipped with onboard wireless communication systems and ground-based mission control systems is proposed for simultaneous operation of multiple UAVs. A variety of operating structures are studied and classified systematically based on types and usages of the components. For each operating system, the strength, weakness and reliability aspects are investigated. Based on these results, a proper operating system configuration is determined and components are developed for mission formation flight. Proposed system can make a formation flight of various UAVs, execute complex missions decentralizing mission to several UAVs and cooperate several missions.
There are keen competitions among the air operators to recruit competent pilots, which could be adversely affect the safe operation of aircraft. This study is aimed to identify the correlation between the flight experience of the pilot of the air transport operator and competency on visual approach operation. About 2,400 sets of flight training data of several pilots of an air transport operator was analysed for this study. The analysis showed that most captains were able to make stabilized visual approach regardless of his/her flight experience of any type of aircraft, while the first officers were able to make a stabilized visual approach with more than 1,500 hours of flight experience for each rated type of aircraft. This should be considered during making policies for the supply and demand of pilots for the safe operation of air transport.
