항공사 객실승무원의 직무스트레스가 소진과 직무만족에 미치는 영향 - 대형항공사와 저비용항공사 간 비교를 중심으로 - (The Effects of Job Stress on Burnout and Job Satisfaction of Flight Attendants -Focusing on Comparison between Full Service Carrier and Low Cost Carrier-)

  • The object of this study is to verify the effects of job stress on burnout and job satisfaction of flight attendants and to confirm the difference in the effect on the consciousness of full service carrier and low cost carriers' flight attendants. In order to confirm, the study examines the relationship between job stress, burnout, and job satisfaction of airline cabin attendant. A survey was done for 55days from January 5th 2014 on flight attendants and total 200 valid samples were analysed. The results of the study demonstrated significant relationship and difference in job stress, burnout and job satisfaction of flight attendants between full service carrier and low cost carrier. As a result, the study is significant as it satisfaction between divergent airline work environment.

  • Because of globalization, flight trips are generalizing, however in proportion to this, it is increasing that people who afraid of riding an airplane because of flight phobia. ‘Flight Phobia’ is individual problem; however it can be factors to suspend of flight schedules. This research is experimental analyzed the recognition degree of flight attendants and cabin attendants about flight phobia and suggested the direction of management about related problems. This research examines meanwhile overlooked importance of flight phobia and the actual condition and if problems are happened, this research will be used valuable to manage quickly and safely.

  • This paper tries to provide and apply implications to line operation based on the analysis results by using empirical research methods. This paper has focused on the relationship among transformational leadership, job satisfaction, job absorption and loyalty. Following previous researches, the variables and hypothesis were defined and quantitatively measured in my research in order to analyze the effect of flight attendants' transformational leadership on their job satisfaction and loyalty. The managerial implications could be suggested as follows. Job absorption should be increased to improve flight attendants' loyalty to organization by increasing job satisfaction. Flight attendants' job satisfaction is related to transformational leadership which could be classified into Charisma, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulus. Therefore flight attendants could be motivated by airline's controlling their charisma, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulus. Solutions below are suggested to increase job satisfaction, absorption and loyalty.

스타트업 항공사 객실승무원 조직의 안전리더십 구성요인에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Research on Factors Composing the Flight Attendant Organization's Safety Leadership)

  • A startup airline is motivating its flight attendants to do voluntary and effective safety behavior as well as setting up safety culture in its organization at the same time in the early stage of revenue-flight service due to the lack of flight operation experience compared to competing airlines. Based on the sample of flight attendants from a startup airline, this paper tried to perform empirical analysis which focused on relationship among safety leadership, safety motivation and safety behavior. According to empirical analysis, it was proven psychological resources had a significantly positive effect on work engagement. Work engagement is proven to have a significantly positive effect on both flight attendants' safety motivation and their safety work. It was also implied that flight attendants couldn't understand a contradictory attitude of their leaders because leaders had them focus on safety work engagement while not providing enough human resource and capital. In addition, it was found leader's excessive emphasizing safety policy might not result in flight attendants' safety behavior.

항공사 객실승무원의 완벽주의 성향이 심리적 소진, 직무열의 및 이직의도에 미치는 영향 (A Study on the Effects of Perfectionism on the Psychological Burnouts, Job Engagement and Turnover Intentions for Flight Attendants)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the structural causal relationship among the psychological burnouts, job engagement and turnover intentions influenced by perfectionism of flight attendants to reestablish concepts by approaching their psychological difficulties and establish strategies for effective human resource management for airlines. The period of data collection was from August 1st to September 1st, 2019 by using online and offline surveys. A total of 208 answered surveys were used for analysis. The major results of this study showed that first, the perfectionism of flight attendants had an effect on psychological burn-outs, supporting Hypothesis 1. Second, the psychological burnout of flight attendants showed to have a negative (-) meaningful effect on their job engagement. Third, the psychological burnout of flight attendants showed to have a positive (+) meaningful effect on their turn-over intentions. Lastly, the job engagement of flight attendants had a negative (-) effect on their turnover intentions.

  • Recently, together with advancement of domestic aviation industry, overseas tourists using planes have been soared. This study aimed to investigate the risk of diseases for the passengers and flight attendants from the exposed cosmic radiation during the flight by domestic and international literature reviews, as follows. Airliners should develop the program to measure the actual radiation dose and prepare the portable devices for radiation measurement in flight to lower the accumulated dose of cosmic radiation by the attendants. Regulation should be prepared to check the exposed dose during the flight for the passengers by announcement of individual exposed radiation dose which has been provided only to the flight attendants. Passengers and flight attendants should recognize they are exposed to excessive cosmic radiation during the flight and civilians should be protected by the cosmic radiation when they use the flights, which should be prepared by the regulations.

A Study on the Image of Male Flight Attendant on Customer Satisfaction

  • Purpose - Many studies have shown the effects of the external images of female flight attendants on the customers' satisfaction. Recently, the perception of male flight attendants has become more important and positive, and airlines are hiring a significant number of male flight attendants every year. Due to the lack of research on the male flight attendant, however, the images of male flight attendants were investigated for this study. Research, design, data and methodology - Using survey techniques with 204 respondents, this study used analytical data based their resulting analysis. Results - The study examined whether the image of the male flight attendant affects the cognitive and emotional perceptions of customers. The focus of the present study is the external image of the male flight attendant, and the following image-component divisions were formed: hairstyle, body type, uniform, speech, and facial expression. Conclusions - The study purpose sought to determine whether the image of the male flight attendant exert effects on the emotional and cognitive images of airlines, and if these images have a positive effect on the customers' satisfaction and loyalty for an airline, so that airlines can use the external image of the male flight attendant to help with its own image reinforcement.

항공기 객실승무원의 감정노동, 건강증진생활양식과 건강증진 프로그램 요구도와의 관계 (The Relationships among Needs for Health Promotion Programs according to Emotional Labor and Heathy Lifestyle of Flight Attendants)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to figure out emotional labor, healthy lifestyle, needs for health services of flight attendants and the relationships among needs for health services according to various characteristics of flight attendants. Methods: The participants of this study were 140 flight attendants who work on major and low cost airlines. Data were collected through a questionnaire from 2017 .Jan.~2017. Feb. Data were subsequently analyzed using the SPSS 21 Program. Results: The score of emotional labor was 3.76 surface acting was 3.75 and deep acting was 3.77. The average of healthy lifestyle was 2.41, and the highest was 3.13 of personal relationship and the lowest was 1.91 of eating habits. There is a positive correlation between emotional labor-deep acting and healthy lifestyle. Flight attendants demand health services for physical exercise, stress and emotional labor management, healthy eating habits, emergency treatment, prevention of fatigue, cancer screening, sexual harassment prevention, sex education and etc. Conclusion: These results show that flight attendants need to various interventions for improving healthy lifestyle and reducing emotional labor. It is necessary to develop customized health promotion program suited to their job and general characteristics.

일개 항공사 객실 여승무원의 기초 체력에 관련된 요인 (The Factors Affecting Physical Fitness Level of Female Flight Attendants)

  • Purpose: This study is aimed at obtaining the information on the physical fitness level of female flight attendants at a local airline. Methods: The subjects are 2,409 female flight attendants who have had medical examination and physical fitness tests at an airline medical center from January 2 to December 30, 2008. The independent variables include socio-demographic & behavioral characteristics, and medical examination results, whereas the dependent variable is their physical strength score representing their fitness level. Results: Factors that affect the fitness strength score are age, flight hours per year, and fasting blood sugar level. It is found that physical fitness level is higher when the subjects are over 35, on board for over 850 hours per year and their fasting blood sugar level is over 100 mg/dL. Conclusion: It is concluded that for the improvement of flight attendants' health, more exercise to develop cardio-respiratory endurance and muscular strength is needed, and further study needs to be done to develop fitness enhancement programs considering flight attendants' job characteristics, working years, and flight hours per year, and programs for those returning to their workplace after a long-term leave, and new employees.

항공사 승무원의 감성지능이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향 : 지식공유에 대한 매개효과를 중심으로 (A Study on the Impact of the Emotional Intelligence of Flight Attendants upon Customer Orientation : Focusing on the Mediating Effect regarding Knowledge Sharing)

  • 본 연구는 항공사 승무원의 서비스 품질 향상 방안을 찾기 위해 승무원의 고객지향성에 중점을 두고 감성지능과 지식공유의 역할을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 승무원의 감성지능과 고객지향성의 영향관계를 알아보고 그 과정에서 지식공유가 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보았다. 설문조사는 2021년 5월 6일부터 2021년 5월 27일까지 약 3주 동안 실시하였고, 통계프로그램 SPSS 23.0과 AMOS 23.0을 사용하여 총 426부를 최종분석에 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 항공사 승무원의 감성지능은 고객지향성에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 항공사 승무원의 감성지능은 지식공유에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 항공사 승무원의 지식공유는 고객지향성에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 항공사 승무원의 감성지능과 고객지향성의 관계에서 지식공유는 유의한 매개효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 항공사는 승무원의 감성지능을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육 프로그램을 마련하고, 지식공유를 활성화할 수 있는 조직 문화를 형성하는 등 조직 차원에서의 지원 방안을 고려할 수 있다.
