  • In this study, the flexural experiment was conducted to propose the one-way composite slab system composed of concrete and GFRP-Deckplate by comparing with the composite deck slab system with bar-mesh As a result of experiment, the specimens of the proposed GFRP-Deck composite slab were better than the specimens for comparison in the flexural performance. It is effective for the building structures exposed to air pollution or salt.

  • The purpose of this study is intended to determine the validity of shear reinforcement by evaluating flexural performance in the hollow slab. The hollow slab is relatively light and second moment of inertia is large. Due to these characteristics, it can be used to slab system efficiently. Therefore the prediction of the structural behaviors is very important because of decrease of shear and flexural strength which is caused by hollow section of slab interior. In this study, the flexural test were performed to analyze the flexural capacity of the hollow slab w/ or w/o shear reinforcement. A total of six full scale specimens were tested. These specimens have three cases of reinforcing bar ratio, 0.009, 0.018 and 0.024. To verify the flexural behavior such as ultimate load, load-deflection and crack pattern, the flexural experiment were tested by using loading frame. Experimental results have shown that the flexural behavior are depend on the reinforcing bar ratio. Also the hollow slab with shear reinforcement have shown flexural behavior. Therefore, it is appropriate that the hollow slab is reinforced by shear reinforcement to improve the flexural performance of the hollow slab.

  • Recently, the external prestressed concrete structures are increasingly being built. The mechanical behavior of prestressed concrete beams with external tendon is different from that of normal bonded PSC beams in that the increment of tendon stress was derived by whole member behavior. By this reason, the ultimate stress of external tendon is smaller than that of bonded tendon or internal unbonded tendon. The purposes of the present paper are therefore to improve the mechanical behavior of external unbonded tendon by using partially bonded external tendon and to evaluate the flexural behavior of partially bonded external tendon by the flexural member experiment. From the experimental results, before flexural cracking, there was no difference between external unbonded, partially bonded and bonded tendons. However, after cracking, yielding load of reinforcement, ultimate load, and tendon stress were increased in the sequence of external unbonded, partially bonded and bonded tendon members. The equation of ACI-318 and AASHTO 1994 were not matched with test results and had no correlations. So the newly proposed equation will be needed including the consideration of tendon profile, tendon bonded type, and so on. The proposed partially bonded external tendon in this paper will be a effective basis for the evaluation of external tendons in construction and design.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish flexural behavior of high-strength concrete by means of both theoretical approach and experimental analysis of beams in which confinement stirrups have been introduced into pure bending zone. The experiment was carried out on full-scale high-strength reinforced concrete beams whose compressive strengths are 400 and 700kgf/cm$^2$, and confined with rectangular closed stirrups. The test results are reviewed in terms of flexural capacity and ductility.

  • This study was to review the basic characteristics in order to evaluate field application of the emergency road repair materials for development of CAC(Calcium Aluminate Composite) usage. The experiment was conducted with two phases of field and laboratory conditions and the laboratory experiment consisted indoor and outdoor tests for compressive and flexural strength. In the result of an experiment, for the compressive strength test, the specimens that cured in the laboratory conditions were not satisfied the requirement of standards, while the specimens that cured in the field conditions were well satisfied with those. For flexural strength test, the result value was satisfied with the requirement on the standards only in outdoor curing condition of laboratory experiment. Based on these results, it is expected that the CAC can be used as an emergency road repair material for field conditions.

  • Sandwich composites made of glass fabric epoxy facesheets with aluminum honeycomb core or balsa core is considered for the structural design of bodyshell of a Korean Low Floor Bus. Initially, in order to select the optimal facesheet and core materials in design stage, the flexural response of a sandwich composite is a critical importance. In this study, theoretical formula which could easily and quickly evaluate and obtain the flexural responses such as deflection and flexural stiffness of a sandwich composite subjected to external load was established. This theory could calculate the flexural responses of sandwich composites with narrow as well as wide width and with facesheets of unequal thickness, and also distinguish between the bending and shear effects of deflection. Finite element analysis using ANSYS V10.0 was used to offer the best elements for real sandwich composites, and flexural test according to ASTM C393 was conducted to compare with the results of theoretical formula and finite element analysis. The results show that the flexural responses of sandwich composites using proposed theoretical formula is in good agreement with those of experiment and finite element method.

  • In this study, a numerical analysis that can effectively predict the effect of strengthening of cracked flexural members is developed using axial deformation link elements. Concrete and interface between concrete and repair material are considered as quasi-brittle material. Reinforcing bars and reinforcing steel plates are assumed to perform as elasto-plastic materials. Unloading behavior of axial deformation link element is implemented. In the developed numerical model, a flexural member is intentionally cracked by pre-loading, then, the cracked member is repaired using extra elements, and reloaded. The results from analysis of repaired flexural members agrees well with available experiment results. Also, it was shown that the effect of strengthening and the change of failure mode with respect to the time for strengthening and thickness of repair materials. Based on the results, it was determined that the developed numerical model has a good agreement for determining failure modes and effect of strengthening in cracked flexural members. By utilizing the developed numerical analysis, the time and dimension of external strengthening in an existing cracked flexural member with predition of failure mechanism can be determined.

  • Chloride induced corrosion is a concern that governs the durability of concrete structures in marine environments, especially in tidal environments. During the service lives of concrete structures, internal cracks in the concrete cover may appear due to imposed loads, accelerating chloride penetration because of the simultaneous action of environmental and service structural loads. This paper investigated the effects of cyclic flexural loads on chloride diffusion characteristics of plain concretes, and proposed a model to predict the chloride penetration into plain concretes subjected to both tidal environments and different cyclic flexural load levels. Further, a new experiment was performed to verify the model. Results of the model using Finite Difference Method (FDM) showed that the durability of concretes in tidal environments was reduced as cyclic flexural load levels, SR, increased, and the modeling results fitted well with the experimental results.

  • Recently, the repair materials for defected RC structures are being developed and the performance on repaired RC structures are being studied. This experiment is aimed to evaluate the flexural performance of the RC beams repaired by premix-type materials. The parameters used in this study is the repair materials, the repair length and the treatment of interface. Flexural capacity of repaired RC beams except the polymer-repaired RC beams are similar to that of the control beam. In the flexural capacity, the RC beams treated with chipping show better results than the RC beam without chipping. The various repair lengths of the repaired RC beam are not affected to the flexural capacity.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural behavior of square concrete filled carbon tube (CFCT) columns subjected to constant axial load with the cyclic lateral load. Two parameters, wnding angle and thickness of tube, were chosen to evaluate the flexural capacity and behavior of rectangular CFCT columns. Selected two parameters were considered simultaneously in order to evaluate the flexural behavior of a rectangular CFCT columns more precisely. Flexural strength, deformation capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of rectangular CFCT columns were evaluated by calculating the area of load-displacement envelope curves and load-dispalcement hysteresis curves obtained from experiment. Also, the ductile capacity obtained from experiment was compared to that of reinforced masonry wall for the comparison of existing structural element.
