The Self Compacting Concrete, SCC is the new generation type of concrete which is not needed to be compacted by vibrator and it will be compacted by its own weight. Since SCC is a new innovation and also the high strength self compacting concrete, HSSCC behavior is like a brittle material, therefore, understanding the strength effect on the serviceability performance of reinforced self compacting concretes is critical. For this aim, first the normal and high strength self compacting concrete, NSSCC and HSSCC was designed. Then, the serviceability performance of reinforced connections consisting of NSSCC and HSSCC were investigated. Twelve reinforced concrete connections (L = 3 m, b = 0.15 m, h = 0.3 m) were simulated, by this concretes, the maximum and minimum reinforcement ratios ${\rho}$ and ${\rho}^{\prime}$ (percentage of tensile and compressive steel reinforcement) are in accordance with the provision of the ACI-05 for conventional RC structures. This study was limited to the case of bending without axial load, utilizing simple connections loaded at mid span through a stub (b = 0.15 m, h = 0.3 m, L = 0.3 m) to simulate a beam-column connection. During the test, concrete and steel strains, deflections and crack widths were measured at different locations along each member. Based on the experimental readings and observations, the cracked moment of inertia ($I_{cr}$) of members was determined and the results were compared with some selective theoretical methods. Also, the flexural crack widths of the members were measured and the applicability for conventional vibrated concrete, as for ACI, BS and CSA code, was verified for SCCs members tested. A comparison between two Codes (ACI and CSA) for the theoretical values cracking moment is indicate that, irrespective of the concrete strength, for the specimens reported, the prediction values of two codes are almost equale. The experimental cracked moment of inertia $(I_{cr})_{\exp}$ is lower than its theoretical $(I_{cr})_{th}$ values, and therefore theoretically it is overestimated. Also, a general conclusion is that, by increasing the percentage of ${\rho}$, the value of $I_{cr}$ is increased.

This paper is to investigate the retrofitting effect for a non-seismic reinforced concrete frame strengthened by perimeter steel moment frames with indirect integrity, which ameliorates the problems of the direct integrity method. To achieve this, first, full-scale tests were conducted to address the structural behavior of a two-story non-seismic reinforced concrete frame and a strengthened frame. The non-seismic frame showed a maximum strength of 185 kN because the flexural-shear failure at the bottom end of columns on the first floor was governed, and shear cracks were concentrated at the beam-column joints on the second floor. The strengthened frame possessed a maximum strength of 338 kN, which is more than 1.8 times that of the non-seismic specimen. A considerable decrease in the quantity of cracks for the strengthened frame was observed compared with the non-seismic frame, while there was the obvious appearance of the failure pattern due to the shear crack. The lateral-resisting capacity for the non-seismic bare frame and the strengthened frame may be determined per the specified shear strength of the reinforced columns in accordance with the distance to a critical section. The effective depth of the column may be referred to as the longitudinal length from the border between the column and the foundation. The lateral-resisting capacity for the non-seismic bare frame and the strengthened frame may be reasonably determined per the specified shear strength of the reinforced columns in accordance with the distance to a critical section. The effective depth of the column may be referred to as the longitudinal length from the border between the column and the foundation. The proposed method had an error of about 2.2% for the non-seismic details and about 4.4% for the strengthened frame based on the closed results versus the experimental results.

In strength limit states design, it is assumed that after cracking, reinforcement carries all tension in the tension zone of reinforced concrete members. However, it can be seen the concrete between cracks will contribute to carrying a part of the tension stress in actual concrete members particularly at service load levels, this effect is referred as tension stiffening effect. In this study, tension stiffening models and high strength concrete beam flexural test results were verified through comparison. The relationship between moment-curvature and load-deflection was evaluated by result of tension stiffening model and test result values. The analysis results showed that ACI 318 and Owen & Damjanic generally shows good agreement.

Degraded shear performance of reinforced concrete members with recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) compared to flexural strength is a problem. To address this, steel fibers can be used as concrete reinforcement material. In this study, the strength and deformation characteristics of SFRC beams using RCA were to be determined by shear tests. Major experimental variables include the volume fraction of steel fiber (0, 0.5%, 1%), the replacement rate of RCA (0%, 100%), and the shear span ratio (a/d = 1, 2). As a result of the experiment, the shear strength of the specimen increased as the rate of mixing steel fiber increased. For specimens with RCA and 1% steel fiber, the maximum shear strengths increased by 1.77 - 6.25% compared to specimens with normal coarse aggregate (NCA). On the other hand, at 0-0.5% steel fiber, the shear strengths of RCA specimens were reduced by 24.2% to 49.2% compared to NCA specimens. This indicates that reinforcement with 1% volume fraction of steel fiber greatly contributes to preventing shear strength reduction due to the use of RCA.
Recently, the construction industry commonly uses FRP as a reinforcement material because of its material advantages. FRP attached reinforcement has various advantages such as high strength, stiffness, excellent durability and construction practicability comparing to its weight. However, external attachment of FRP is water-tighted with low water permeable material, not draining water, probably causing damages on a permanent structure. The study manufactured it through pultrusion and examined GP(glass fiber panel) of which material-mechanical properties are almost same as the existing FRP but durability and attachment performance are better by stationary experiments, testing load-deflection curve, destruction types and load-deflection relation under repetitive loading test. As a result of 2,000,000 fatigue tests, it did not result in the destruction and showed excellent permanent attachment and durability as it displays significantly low compressive strain of concrete.

Pre-Engineering Building (PEB) system is one of the most economical structural systems. Tapered members can resist a maximum stress at a single location, whereas stresses of the rest of the members are considerably low. This results in appreciable savings both in terms of materials and construction costs. However, it was appreciated that special consideration would be required for certain aspects of this structural form. In particular, because of their slenderness, webs would buckle laterally and torsionally under the combined action of excessive axial, bending and shear forces. In this study, a total of four large-scale rafters with simple ends were tested. The main parameters were the width-thickness ratio of the web, the stiffener, and the flange brace. The purpose of this experiment is to evaluate the structural stability and to offer back-data on PEB design.

This study has attempted to suggest a proper reinforcement method by strengthening unbonded post -tensioning through height of an anchorage hole, form of a saddle, and loading time point as parameters and evaluating the reinforcement method through a bending experiment. The result of this experiment indicated effects of reinforcement since the maximum strength ratio(the ratio of an experimental value to theoretical value) of SC composite beams before prestressed was 0.97 and after prestress were 1.00~1.21. As a result of analysis on displacement and strain, irrespective of height of an anchorage hole and loading time point, the D120-series specimen where an anchorage hole was installed on the neutral axis after reinforcement showed that its deflection continuously increased without sudden load reduction after maximum load and it stably behaved with relatively low strain of each part. In terms of reinforcement effects, the maximum strength of SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was increased 1.72 times comparing to SC composite beams so SCR-UD120 specimen prestressed after pre-loading was shown to be the best.
A mechanical model was developed to predict the behavior of point-loaded RC slender beams (a/d > 2.5) without stirrups. It is commonly accepted by most researchers that a diagonal tension crack plays a predominant role in the failure mode of these beams, but the failure mechanism of these members is still debatable. In this paper, it was assumed that diagonal tension failure was triggered by the concrete cover splitting due to the dowel action at the initial location of diagonal tension cracks, which propagate from flexural cracks. When concrete cover splitting occurred, the shape of a diagonal tension crack was simultaneously developed, which can be determined from the principal tensile stress trajectory. This fictitious crack rotates onto the crack tip with load increase. During the rotation, all forces acting on the crack (i.e, dowel force of longitudinal bars, vertical component of concrete tensile force, shear force by aggregate interlock, shear force in compression zone) were calculated by considering the kinematical conditions such as crack width or sliding. These forces except for the shear force in the compression zone were uncoupled with respect to crack width and sliding by the proposed constitutive relations for friction along the crack. Uncoupling the shear forces along the crack was aimed at distinguishing each force from the total shear force and clarifying the failure mechanism of RC slender beams without stirrups. In addition, a proposed method deriving the dowel force of longitudinal bars made it possible to predict the secondary shear failure. The proposed model can be used to predict not only the entire behavior of point-loaded RC slender shear beams, but also the ultimate shear strength. The experiments used to validate the proposed model are reported in a companion paper.
This paper proposes a novel frame element on Winkler-Pasternak foundation for analysis of a non-ductile reinforced concrete (RC) member resting on foundation. These structural members represent flexural-shear critical members, which are commonly found in existing buildings designed and constructed with the old seismic design standards (inadequately detailed transverse reinforcement). As a result, these structures always experience shear failure or flexure-shear failure under seismic loading. To predict the characteristics of these non-ductile structures, efficient numerical models are required. Therefore, the novel frame element on Winkler-Pasternak foundation with inclusion of the shear-flexure interaction effect is developed in this study. The proposed model is derived within the framework of a displacement-based formulation and fiber section model under Timoshenko beam theory. Uniaxial nonlinear material constitutive models are employed to represent the characteristics of non-ductile RC frame and the underlying foundation. The shear-flexure interaction effect is expressed within the shear constitutive model based on the UCSD shear-strength model as demonstrated in this paper. From several features of the presented model, the proposed model is simple but able to capture several salient characteristics of the non-ductile RC frame resting on foundation, such as failure behavior, soil-structure interaction, and shear-flexure interaction. This confirms through two numerical simulations.

The purpose of this study was to investigate a method for the strength enhancement of wale in temporary retaining structures. Tests on the wale structures strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) strips and prestressed with seven wire strands were conducted. From this test, it is found that the flexural stiffness and strength of the wales strengthened with CFRP strips and seven wire strands were significantly improved compared to the unstrengthened one. The ultimate tensile strains of attached CFRP strips on the steel beam were in the range of 8,000 and $11,000{\mu}{\epsilon}$, and it is noticed that the bonding ability with steel and CFRP strips is good. In this paper, a new method for enhancing the strength of wale in retaining structures is suggested.
