A flexible electrochromic device (ECD) is a promising technology that is expected to be applied in various fields such as smart windows. Polymer electrolyte is an important component that determines the bleaching-coloration performance and physical stability of flexible ECDs. In this study, a pore-filled polymer electrolyte membrane (PFPEM) with excellent dimensional stability was developed to effectively fabricate flexible ECDs and improve durability. Polyvinyl acetate, which has excellent adhesion, and polyethylene glycol, which can improve ionic conductivity, were filled in the pores of a porous substrate made of polyethylene, which is inexpensive and has excellent physical and chemical stability. The optimal lithium salt (LiTFSI) content of the prepared PFPEM was determined at about 27 wt%, and it was confirmed to possess excellent dimensional stability, adhesive strength, and ion conductivity close to that of conventional polymer electrolytes. Although the visible light transmittance was lowered by the use of the porous substrate, it was expected to act as an advantage in the colored state.

In this study ensuring a filming technology is attempted through dispersion technologies and mixing polymer scaffolds in order to produce films based on the nanowaires obtained from chitin. In addition this study proposes technologies in measuring and improving characteristics of films produced using nanowires and for applying electric conductivity to the films as a chemical and physical manner. Also, a possibility in applications of mass productive films or substrates to producing flexible and transparent films is proposed. In the experiment implemented in this study, it is verified that developments of high strength, high transparency, and high flexibility films can be developed through combining it with producing flexible and transparent films.
We proposed an enhanced substrate-assembling technique using adhesive patterned spacers for flexible liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The negative photoresister was used for the rigid columnar spacers and the strong substrate-bonding agent. The proposed technique is expected to be a good candidate for manufacturing method of flexible LCDs.
Various methods have been used to strengthen structures against earthquakes. Isolator systems are among the methods to control the structure's response. Instead of increasing the strength and capacity of the structure, these systems react to earthquakes. In this paper, an isolator system was investigated with the flexible piers of ∨ and ∧ elements, which were perpendicular to each other and connected by a rod hinged at both ends. The behavior of the isolator system was studied. Many structures have non-rigid connections; the effect of this issue was considered in the pendulum column's performance in this paper. Its mathematical equations were derived, solved with MATLAB software, and compared with ABAQUS results. Later on, the isolator system was investigated during different earthquakes. The results show that this mechanism is suitable as an isolator. The period was found to be longer in the flexible pier form. The flexible piers have an influential role in the system's response by reducing the system's stiffness considerably. Among the different damping ratios, those with more than 15% had better results. Finally, the tested model verified the theory.

Metallic sintered brake pads are often applied to mid/high speed train due to their high strength and thermal characteristics. Imbalance contact between discs and pads can greatly influence the life span, one sided wear, discs attack/crack and threat the safety of the train during operation. In this research, we analyzed pressure/temperature distribution between brake pads and disks. Analyzed data had been verified and modified to conduct further tests of flexible brake pads with small/full-scale dynamo test. Flexible brake pads were installed to high speed train to conduct further tests to identify the differences between rigid brake pads and flexible brake pads. In result, Flexible brake pads showed outstanding disk thermal stability, one sided wear, noise and wear rate than rigid brake pad.

Carbon composites for flexible fiber heating element were examined to improve the electrical conductivity in this study. Carbon composites using carbon black, denka black, super-c, super-p with/without CNF or dispersant such as BCS03 and Sikament-nn were prepared. Carbon composite slurry was coated on plane film and yarns(cotton, polyester) and the performances of prepared heating materials were investigated by checking electrical surface resistance, adhesion strength. The plane heating element using carbon black under natural drying condition($25^{\circ}C$) had better physical properties such as surface resistance(185.3 Ohm/sq) and adhesion strength(above 90%) than those of other carbon composite heating elements. From these results, polyester heating element coated by carbon black showed better electrical line resistance(33.2 kOhm/cm) than cotton heating element. Then, it was found that polyester heating element coated by carbon black with CNF(3 wt%) and BCS03(1 wt%) appeared best properties(0.604 kOhm/cm).
Decrease in availability of suitable subbase and base course materials for highway construction leads to a search for economic method of converting locally available troublesome soil to suitable one for highway construction. Present study insights on evaluation of benefits of stabilization of subgrade soils in term of extension in service life (TBR) and layer thickness reduction (LTR). Laboratory investigation consisting of Atterberg limit, Compaction, California Bearing Ratio, unconfined compressive strength and triaxial shear strength tests were carried out on two types of soil for varying percentages of stabilizers. Vertical compressive strains at the top of unstabilized and stabilized subgrade soils were found out by elastoplastic finite element analysis using commercial software ANSYS. The values of vertical compressive strains at the top of unstabilized and stabilized subgrade, were further used to estimate layer thickness reduction or extension in service life of the pavement due to stabilization. Finite element modeling of the flexible pavement layered structure provides modern technology and sophisticated characterization of materials that can be accommodated in the analysis and enhances the reliability for the prediction of pavement response for improved design methodology. If the pavement section is kept same for unstabilized and stabilized subgrade soils, pavement resting on lime, fly ash and fiber stabilized subgrade soil B will have service life 2.84, 1.84 and 1.67 times than that of unstabilized pavement respectively. The flexible pavement resting on stabilized subgrade is beneficial in reducing the construction material. Actual savings would depend on the option exercised by the designer for reducing the thickness of an individual layer.
For high-strength steel, it is difficult to be applied to flexible structural member because it have high yield ratio and low basic material's toughness. One of the great problems when using high-strength steel connections is the brittle fracture at the end of the beam member in common with general mild steel connections. In the cases of mild steel connections, it has be developed that special moment frame connection details by reinforcing structural member or improvement of welding access hole. But, it is incomplete at yet about applicability estimation of high-strength steel connections. This study is the initial step research for the applicability estimation of beam-to-column connections being applied to developed high-strength steel, HSA800. And, it studied about structural performance of the high-strength steel connections according to the details of welding access hole through full-scale test and analytical method.

In this study, the design of prestressed die for spur gear forging have been investigated. The stress concentration at notch of the die insert is very important in the design of die for the forging of spur gear such as non-axisymmetric geometry. In the previous study, the flexible tolerance method was used in order to search the optimal value of design variables considering the constrain conditions. In the design process, it was also involved the safety factor to the yield strength of each ring by considering allowable tensile or compressive hoop stress in each ring. Using this technique, the die deign for spur gear forging has been successfully performed without yielding of the die after shrink fitting and during forging.
The analysis and tests of thin-walled channel frames including nonlinear flexible or semi-rigid connection behaviour is presented. The semi-rigid connection behaviour is modelled using a mathematical approximation of the connection flexibility-moment relationship. Local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling of the member are included in the analysis. The full response of the frame, up to the collapse load, can be predicted. Experimental investigation was carried out on a series of simple double storey symmetrical frames with the purpose of verifying the accuracy and validity of the analysis. Agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is acceptable. The investigation also shows that connection flexibility and local instability such as local buckling and torsional flexural buckling can affect the behaviour and strength of thin-walled frames significantly. The results can also provide further insight into the advanced study of practical structures where interaction between flexible connections and phenomenon associated with thin-walled members are present.
