It is well known that flexible composite material propeller has superior radiation noise characteristics with outstanding damping effects. In this paper, three flexible composite material propellers were produced using compression molding process, and their hydrodynamic performances and radiation noise characteristics were measured. One propeller, C1, was made up from carbon/epoxy composite laminates, and the other two ones, G1 and G2, from glass/epoxy ones. Their fiber arrays were selected by the progressive damage structural analysis of propellers using composite material model MAT_162 (Composite_DMG_MSC) linked with LS-DYNA code. Carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite specimen tests were performed, their damage mechanisms were figured out, and their parameters were calibrated by their progressive damage structural analysis according to their damage criteria.
The flexible patterned cover film was made by a simple solution coating process using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) solution with glass beads. The effect of patterned cover film on the efficiency of solar cell has been investigated. It was found that the relative solar cell efficiency increased up to 3.4% with the incident light angle between $0-90^{\circ}$ by the sphere shape of glass bead coated on the film surface. This was understood that the loss of transmittance and scattering due to the light directional dependency on solar cell were minimized because the light entered glass beads normal to its surface regardless of incident light angle. The maximum relative solar cell efficiency was achieved when glass bead shape on the film is hemisphere and the relative efficiency increased with increasing the amount of glass bead on the film surface. However, too much glass beads on the film surface resulted in the lower relative solar cell efficiency due to the lowering of transmittance as well as the occurring of light interference.
A new approach to the analysis of thin. rectangular window giass glass supported on flexible gaskets. and subjected to uniform lateral pressures was evolved. Based on the Von Karman theory of plates and using the finite difference method. a computer program which determines the deflections and stresses in simply supported thin glass plates was developed.
The effect of glass bead and glass fiber on the enhancement of dimensional stability in poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) flexible substrate for photovoltaic devices has been studied. It was found that the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and the optical transmittance decreased with increasing inorganic filler content. In addition to filler contents, the size and size distribution of fillers are the other important factors to improve CTE and optical transmittance of PEN film. Our results showed that the optimum filler content was found to be about 5 wt% to enhance the dimensional stability of PEN by more than 50% with maintaining the optical transmittance over 85% for the flexible substrate.
Quantum dots (QDs) are an attractive material for application in solar energy conversion devices because of their unique properties including facile band-gap tuning, a high-absorption coefficient, low-cost processing, and the potential multiple exciton generation effect. Recently, highly efficient quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) have been developed based on CdSe, PbS, CdS, and Cu-In-Se QDs. However, for the commercialization and wide application of these QDSCs, replacing the conventional rigid glass substrates with flexible substrates is required. Here, we demonstrate flexible CISe QDSCs based on vertically aligned $TiO_2$ nanotube (NT) electrodes. The highly uniform $TiO_2$ NT electrodes are prepared by two-step anodic oxidation. Using these flexible photoanodes and semi-transparent Pt counter electrodes, we fabricate the QDSCs and examine their photovoltaic properties. In particular, photovoltaic performances are optimized by controlling the nanostructure of $TiO_2$ NT electrodes.

Zinc oxide(ZnO) was sputtered on various glass and flexible substrates such as polyethylene terephthalate(PET) and polycarbonate(PC). A Q-switched $Nd:YVO_4$ laser with a wavelength of 1,064 nm was used for the direct etching of ZnO films. It was possible to obtain laser etched line patterns on the ZnO films on PC substrate at some specific laser beam conditions. In the flexible substrates, more thermal energy of laser beam is expected to be spreaded for the etching process.

The contact pressure distribution between a rubber wiper blade and a glass windshield is a major factor for wiping performance. A modeling and simulation method has been developed to forecast the contact pressure distribution on a wiper blade. For modeling multi-body dynamics of an wiper linkage system and flexible nature of wiper blade, ADAMS and ADAMS/flex are employed. A simulation study has been also conducted to obtain contact pressure distribution. Comparison between simulation and measurement is provided to ensure fidelity of the model and the simulation method.
This paper reports on a flexible flap valve actuated by electromagnetic force under a constant pressure source. The flexible flap valve consists of the three main components: a flexible flap with a steel disk embedded in PDMS, an electromagnetic actuator and two glass plates with inlet and outlet. Sealing lip structures for improving the valve characteristics are added on the outlet of the bottom glass substrate. The flap valve is fabricated by the spin-coating process, the EDM process, SU-8 mold process and oxygen plasma treatment. The dimension of an assembled flap valve is $12mm{\times}20mm{\times}28mm$. The stroke volume of the flap valve is measured for various pressures and open times. When the input voltage of 30 V is applied for 0.33 s, the minimum stroke volume of the flap valve is 70 ${\mu}L$ at 50 kPa.
Organic semi-conductive materials have characteristics such as the advantages of easy formability, low-cost and diversity along with moderate semi-conductive properties. In this paper, we developed a flexible organic-inorganic hybrid solar cell fiber. First, we made a solar cell on the glass and attached the solar cell on the glass fiber similarly. In the latter case, thermal deposition method was employed in order to effectively apply ITO onto fiber surface. The amount of ITO was controlled by varying the temperature from 25, 150 to $300^{\circ}C$. Optimum result was obtained at $150^{\circ}C$ where maximize the deposition amount without significant decomposition of ITO. Despite of maximum open circuit voltage of 0.39V, the resulting current was quite unstable and weak, limiting realistic applications. It was, however, concluded that the flexible solar cell fiber developed showed a possibility of low-weight application from functional clothing for military to space suit mainly due to flexibility and thus wear ability.

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are applied in the emerging fields of building integrated photovoltaic and electronics integrated photovoltaic like small portable power sources as demands are increased with characteristic advantages. Highly flexible dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) prepared on single stainless steel mesh were proposed in this paper. Single mesh DSSCs structure utilizing the spraying the chopped glass paper on the surface treated stainless steel mesh for integrating the space element and the electrode components, counter electrode component and photoelectrode component were coated on each side of the single mesh. The fabricated single mesh DSSCs showed the energy-conversion efficiency 0.50% which show highly bendable ability. The new single mesh DSSCs may have potential applications as highly bendable solar cells to overcome the limitations of TCO-based DSSCs.
