Dynamic Modeling of Two Cooperating Flexible Manipulators

  • In this paper, our aim is to develop a model for two cooperating flexible manipulators handling a rigid object by using lumped parameters. This model is in turn analyzed on MATLAB. In order to validate the model, a precise simulation model is developed using $ADAMS^{TM}$ (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System). Moreover, to clarify the discussion, the motions of a dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with a symmetric hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, experiments and simulations are performed, and a comparison of simulation results with experimental results is given to a rerify the validity of our model.

  • A fuzzy logic controller design technique is proposed to apply to the control of flexible system under irregular disturbance. The fuzzy rules of $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Fuzzy Controller$\lrcorner$ are constructed using displacement, velocity information and modal characteristics of the system. The frequency information of flexible system is picked up from $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Unit$\lrcorner$ based on Fast-Fourier transform algorithm.   • For successful assembly of flexible parts, informations about their deformation as well as possible misalignments between the holes and their mating parts are essential. Such informations can be acquired from visual sensors. For robotic assembly, the corrective assembly motion to compensate for such misalignments has to be determined from the measured informations. However, this may not be simply derived from the measured misalignment alone because the part deformation progressively occurs during misalignment compensation. Based on the analysis of flexible parts assembly process, this paper presents a neural net-based inference system that can infer the complex relationship between the corrective motion and the measured information of parts deformation and misalignments. And it verifies the performance of the implemented inference system. The results show that the proposed neural net-based misalignment compensation algorithm Is effective in compensating for the lateral misalignment, and that it can be extended to the assembly tasks under more general conditions.

  • This paper discusses the system layout of flexible manufacturing system. A definition of flexible manufacturing system has not been necessarily classified yet. An understanding, and an objective of its application are different in a variety of industries. It could be treated as the system adopting flexble-Automation and FMS has been improving as a form of parts maching system. It was thought that the problems of machining function and transfer function were important. This paper introduces parts family and machine groups to increase machining function and transfer function. Parts family and machine tool groups were made up by means of multidimensional dizitizing analysis. A new software algorithm for forming parts family and machine groups has been proposed. Flexible manufacturing system was layout according to the FMS transfer function classification.

  • Even though a flexible disk grinding process was often applied to enhance the product quality, it produced non-flat zone in the beginning and the exit (end) area. Since latter area is susceptible to poor product quality with burn mark, careful analysis is required to cope with such degradation. The flexible disk grinding exit stage was analyzed for workpiece length, wheel speed, depth of cut and feed. The exit stage qualities defined as exit stage ratio and exit stage angle or slope was characterized. A neural network application results reveled that exit stage characteristics was predicted more accurately without workpiece dimension with minimum error of 1.3%.

Fuzzy control for geometrically nonlinear vibration of piezoelectric flexible plates

  • This paper presents a LMI(linear matrix inequality)-based fuzzy approach of modeling and active vibration control of geometrically nonlinear flexible plates with piezoelectric materials as actuators and sensors. The large-amplitude vibration characteristics and dynamic partial differential equation of a piezoelectric flexible rectangular thin plate structure are obtained by using generalized Fourier series and numerical integral. Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to approximate the nonlinear structural system, which combines the fuzzy inference rule with the local linear state space model. A robust fuzzy dynamic output feedback control law based on the T-S fuzzy model is designed by the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) technique, and stability analysis and disturbance rejection problems are guaranteed by LMI method. The simulation result shows that the fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller based on a two-rule T-S fuzzy model performs well, and the vibration of plate structure with geometrical nonlinearity is suppressed, which is less complex in computation and can be practically implemented.

Experiment Onmodal Balancing of a Flexible Rotor Supported on Fluid Film Bearings (유막 베어링에 지지된 탄성회전체의 모드 밸런싱 실험)

  • Experiment on the modal balancing of a flexible rotor supported on two kinds of fluid film bearings is performed to verify the modal balancing theory. The fluid film bearings are a tilting pad bearing and a two axial grooved journal bearing. One is inherently stable, but the other is not. The experimental result shows that the modal balancing method is effective for balancing of a high speed flexible rotor system. Besides, the critical speeds and mode shapes measured experimentally are in good coincidence with the results of rotordynamic analysis. Oil whip, which is the instability phenomenon due to fluid film force, is also observed during the experiment.

  • This paper provides an overview on the characteristics of a-SiC:H barrier film deposited for flexible display applications. Key characteristics such as high crack resistance, high thermal/hydro stability, excellent adhesion to the polymer substrate, as well as very low permeance has been demonstrated. The excellence of this barrier film has been shown from competitive analysis compared with other barrier coating materials. Finally, flexible Polymer Light Emitting Diode (PLED) test pixels have been fabricated on the barrier coated plastic substrate, demonstrating the viability of the device with lifetime data.

  • An analyzing method for pressure fluctuations in oil hydraulic pipe network was developed in this study. The object pipe network has multi-branch configuration, and the pipelines of it are composed of metal tubes and flexible hoses. Transfer matrix method, in other words impedance method, was used for the analysis. Values of physical parameters describing the characteristics of flexible hose were measured by experiments and reflected to the analysing procedure. The reliability and usefulness of the analyzing method were confirmed by investigating computed results and experimental results got in this study.

  • Recently, the finite element absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) was developed for the large deformation analysis of flexible bodies in multi-body dynamics. This formulation is based on the finite element procedures and the general continuum mechanics theory to represent the elastic forces. In this paper, a computation method of dynamic stress in flexible multi-body dynamics using absolute nodal coordinate formulation is proposed. Numerical examples, based on an Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, are shown to verify the efficiency of the proposed method. This method can be applied for predicting the fatigue life of a mechanical system. Moreover, this study demonstrates that structural and multi-body dynamic models can be unified in one numerical system.
