On optimal cyclic scheduling for a flexible manufacturing cell

  • This paper discusses an optimal cyclic scheduling problem for a FMC (Flexible Manufacturing Cell) modeled by a two-machine flowshop with two machining centers with APC's (Automated Pallet Changers), an AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) and loading and unloading stations. Cyclic production in which similar patterns of production is repeated can significantly reduce the production lead-time and WIP (Work-In-Process) in such flexible, automated system. Thus we want to find an optimal cyclic schedule that minimizes the cycle time in each cycle. However, the existence of APC's as buffer storage for WIP makes the problem intractable (i.e., NP-complete). We propose an practical approximation algorithm that minimizes, instead of each cycle time, its upper bound. Performances of this algorithm are validated by the way of computer simulations.

Flexible Flat Cable 생산성 향상을 위한 가압용 히팅롤러의 온도제어개선 (Temperature Control Improvement of Pressure Heating Roller for Flexible Flat Cable Production)

  • Pressure heating rollers with temperature control were mounted to a flat cable laminating machine (FCLM). Pressure heating rollers should be heated up to the setting temperature $(175^{\circ}C)$ and kept on to producing good quality flexible flat cables (FFC). Existing Pressure heating rollers took more than 70minutes to the setting temperature and did not keep on the setting temperature in production. Temperature controller, electric power controller, material and diameter of rollers and heat capacities were changed to improve the temperature control of the pressure heat rollers for better production of the FFC. Thus, the reaching time to the setting temperature (RT), temperature stability time (TST) and temperature hunting (TH) were measured and compared with the existing pressure rollers case. The RT of A roller was shortened by 50minutes, and B roller was shortened by 15minutes. The TST of A roller was shortened by 13minutes, and B roller was shortened by 15minutes. The THs of both A and B rollers were settled up to ${\pm}5^{\circ}C$. Finally, the productivity of the FCLM and the quality of the FFC were increased.

  • This paper concerns about coupled dynamic analysis of the deep-seabed mining system in launching operation. The dynamic behavior of mining system consisting of lifting pipe, buffer station, flexible conduit and self-propelled miner is simulated in time domain. The launching operation is divided into four critical phases: (1) deployment of miner and flexible conduit, (2) deployment of lifting pipe, flexible conduit and miner, (3) touch-down of miner, (4) final launching. The dynamic responses of sub-systems - miner, flexible conduit, buffer and lifting pipe - are analyzed in each launching phase. According to the changing periods of forced excitation at the top, the dynamic responses of sub-systems are diverse in their characteristics. It has been shown that the total integrated responses of sub-systems are strongly affected by the design parameters. Especially, the principal dimensions of flexible conduit seem to be significant in determining of the global response. Based on the simulation results, safe operation conditions are investigated.

Post-Silicon Tuning Based on Flexible Flip-Flop Timing

  • Clock skew scheduling is one of the essential steps to be carefully performed during the design process. This work addresses the clock skew optimization problem integrated with the consideration of the inter-dependent relation between the setup and hold times, and clock to-Q delay of flip-flops, so that the time margin is more accurately and reliably set aside over that of the previous methods, which have never taken the integrated problem into account. Precisely, based on an accurate flexible model of setup time, hold time, and clock-to-Q delay, we propose a stepwise clock skew scheduling technique in which at each iteration, the worst slack of setup and hold times is systematically and incrementally relaxed to maximally extend the time margin. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through experiments with benchmark circuits, demonstrating that our method relaxes the worst slack of circuits, so that the clock period ($T_{clk}$) is shortened by 4.2% on average, namely the clock speed is improved from 369 MHz~2.23 GHz to 385 MHz~2.33 GHz with no time violation. In addition, it reduces the total numbers of setup and hold time violations by 27.7%, 9.5%, and 6.7% when the clock periods are set to 95%, 90%, and 85% of the value of Tclk, respectively.

유아기자녀를 둔 어머니의 종사상지위별 자녀돌보기 시간사용과 유료 자녀양육서비스 선택 (Mothers' Time Use in Child Care and Market Child Care Services Depending on Their Employment Status)

  • This study analysed the effect of mothers' work status on time use in child care and use of market child care services. There were two major questions: Do self-employed (and family worker without being paid) mothers have a flexible work schedule and so can they care her child(ren) well? If it is true, is the work status as self-employee related to non-market child care services? To answer these questions, 1,196 samples were selected from the Time Use Data of 1999, which had been administered by Korea National Statistical Office. Major results were as follows: First, a mother who is family workers without being paid made time to care children frequently more than wage earners. Second, according to regression analysis, mothers' work status was one of the important variables to explain child care activity frequency. Third, among categories of child caring ('physical caring', 'non-physical caring', and 'caring of the others'), mothers spent more frequently in 'caring of the others', and had higher probability to use market child care services. But the more frequently a mother made time in 'non-physical caring' for her child, the lower probability to choose market child care services. In conclusion, it was certain that self-employed mothers benefit from a flexible time schedule at work places. But the relationship of child care activity frequency with use of market child care services was inconsistent.

Time-varying modal parameters identification of large flexible spacecraft using a recursive algorithm

  • In existing identification methods for on-orbit spacecraft, such as eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) and subspace method identification (SMI), singular value decomposition (SVD) is used frequently to estimate the modal parameters. However, these identification methods are often used to process the linear time-invariant system, and there is a lower computation efficiency using the SVD when the system order of spacecraft is high. In this study, to improve the computational efficiency in identifying time-varying modal parameters of large spacecraft, a faster recursive algorithm called fast approximated power iteration (FAPI) is employed. This approach avoids the SVD and can be provided as an alternative spacecraft identification method, and the latest modal parameters obtained can be applied for updating the controller parameters timely (e.g. the self-adaptive control problem). In numerical simulations, two large flexible spacecraft models, the Engineering Test Satellite-VIII (ETS-VIII) and Soil Moisture Active/Passive (SMAP) satellite, are established. The identification results show that this recursive algorithm can obtain the time-varying modal parameters, and the computation time is reduced significantly.

금속 나노입자 프린팅 공정을 이용한 유연전기소자 연구 현황 (Research Status on Flexible Electronics Fabrication by Metal Nano-particle Printing Processes)

  • Flexible electronics are the electronics on flexible substrates such as a plastic, fabric or paper, so that they can be folded or attached on any curved surfaces. They are currently recognized as one of the most innovating future technologies especially in the area of portable electronics. The conventional vacuum deposition and photolithographic patterning methods are well developed for inorganic microelectronics. However, flexible polymer substrates are generally chemically incompatible with resists, etchants and developers and high temperature processes used in conventional integrated circuit processing. Additionally, conventional processes are time consuming, very expensive and not environmentally friendly. Therefore, there are strong needs for new materials and a novel processing scheme to realize flexible electronics. This paper introduces current research trends for flexible electronics based on (a) nanoparticles, and (b) novel processing schemes: nanomaterial based direct patterning methods to remove any conventional vacuum deposition and photolithography processes. Among the several unique nanomaterial characteristics, dramatic melting temperature depression (Tm, 3nm particle~$150^{\circ}C$) and strong light absorption can be exploited to reduce the processing temperature and to enhance the resolution. This opens a possibility of developing a cost effective, low temperature, high resolution and environmentally friendly approach in the high performance flexible electronics fabrication area.

  • As the product lifecycle is getting shorter and various models should be released to respond to the needs of customers and markets, automation-based flexible production line has been recognized as the core competitiveness. According to these trends, system vendors supply cell-level systems such as FMC(Flexible Manufacturing Cell) that is integration of core functions of FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) and RMC(Reconfigurable Manufacturing Cell) that can easily extend components of FMC. In the cell-based environment, flexible management for shop floor composed of existing job shop, FMCs and RMCs from various system vendors has emerged as an important issue. However, there could be some problems on integrated operation between heterogeneous cells to use vendor-specific cell controllers and on seamless information flow with high level systems such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning). In this context, this paper proposes process management systems supporting integrated shop operation of heterogeneous multi-cell based flexible manufacturing environment: First of all, (1) Integrated Shop Operation System to apply the process management system is introduced, and (2) Multi-Layer BOP(Bill-Of-Process) model, a backbone of the process management system, is derived with its data structure. Finally, application of the proposed model is illustrated through system implementation results.

Flexible Window 기법을 이용한 위치 예측 알고리즘 설계 (Design of a User Location Prediction Algorithm Using the Flexible Window Scheme)

  • 인과 관계에 대한 직관적인 개념으로 Bayesian Networks 알고리즘이나 트리 구조 추측 알고리즘 그리고 유전자 알고리즘을 사용하여 다양한 구조의 상황을 예측을 하게 된다. 하지만 이런 예측 알고리즘들을 상황인지 서비스 구현에 적용하기에는 실제 구현의 어려움과 실시간 환경에서 트레이닝 데이터 처리에서 오는 시간 지연 문제 등이 발생하게 된다. 이 때문에 특정 목적의 상황인지 시스템에서 이 알고리즘들이 어느 정도의 예측 정확도와 신뢰도를 가지고 상황 정보에 부합하는지 미지수이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존의 예측 알고리즘과는 다른 접근 방식을 통해, 사용자의 습관이나 행동양식을 데이터베이스로 만들어 이를 고려함으로써 상황인지 시스템의 상황 정보와 부합되는 Flexible Window 기법을 이용한 위치 예측 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 Flexible Window 기법을 이용한 위치 예측 알고리즘은 동일한 실험 조건 아래, Fixed Window 기법을 이용한 위치 예측 알고리즘보다 평균적으로 5.10% 더 우수한 성능을 보인다. 이 방식은 기하급수적으로 늘어나는 상황 정보를 감안했을 때 알고리즘 수행 시 처리 시간의 감소와 예측 정확도를 향상 시킬 수 있다.

입력설계기법에 의한 유연구조물의 잔류진동제어 (A Suppression of Residual Vibration on the Flexible Structures by Input Shaping)

  • 본 연구는 모델링 오차를 갖는 유연구조물의 잔류진동을 억제하는 입력설계에 대한 방법이다. 개루프 제어방법으로 시간지연방법을 이용하여 여러 가지 형태로 설계된 입력을 사용하여 유연구조물의 강체운동과 잔류진동을 억제함을 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 비교 확인해 보았다. 또한 모델 오차에 대한 강인성 측면에서도 해석적으로 개루프 시스템에서 검토해 보았다. 여기서 사용된 입력설계(Input-Shaping) 방법은 일련의 임펄스 콘볼류션을 이용하여 진동이 제어되는 입력을 설계한다. 실린더 모양의 허브와 양쪽에 유연한 날개 모양을 가진 모델이 실험에 이용되었으며 제안된 입력설계 명령과 설계되지 않은 명령에 대한 강체운동과 구조물의 잔류진동을 측정하여 입력설계 방법의 효과를 확인하였다. 날개모양의 구조물은 길고 유연하여 운동 상태에서 낮은 주파수 진동을 수반하는 구조물이다. 또한, 적절히 설계된 입력이 폐루프 제어시스템의 입력으로 사용할 때의 응답을 개루프 제어시스템의 응답과 비교하기 위해 해석적 방법을 통해 살펴보았다. 제어의 목적은 강체의 빠른 정착시간, 유연 구조물의 빠른 잔류진동 감쇄, 모델의 불확실성에 대한 강인성 등을 검토해 보는 것이다.
