Flexural analysis of thermally actuated fiber reinforced shape memory polymer composite

  • Shape Memory Polymer Composites (SMPC) have gained popularity over the last few decades due to its flexible shape memory behaviour over wide range of strains and temperatures. In this paper, non-linear bending analysis has been carried out for SMPC beam under the application of uniformly distributed transverse load (UDL). Simplified C0 continuity Finite Element Method (FEM) based on Higher Order Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) has been adopted for flexural analysis of SMPC. The numerical solutions are obtained by iterative Newton Raphson method. Material properties of SMPC with Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) as matrix and carbon fibre as reinforcements, have been calculated by theory of volume averaging. Effect of temperature on SMPC has been evaluated for numerous parameters for instance number of layers, aspect ratio, boundary conditions, volume fraction of carbon fiber and laminate stacking orientation. Moreover, deflection profile over unit length and behavior of stresses across thickness are also presented to elaborate the effect of glass transition temperature (Tg). Present study provides detailed explanation on effect of different parameters on the bending of SMPC beam for large strain over a broad span of temperature from 273-373K, which encompasses glass transition region of SMPC.

  • In case of environment requiring safety such as human body and requiring flexible shape, a conventional mechanical actuator system does not satisfy requirement. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, a research of various smart material such as EAP (Electro Active Polymer), EAC (Electro Active Ceramic) and SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) is in progress. Recently, the highest preferring material among various smart material is EP (Electrostictive Polymer), because it has very fast response time, poerful force and large displacement. The previous researches have been studied properties of polymer and simple control, but present researches are studied a polymer actuator. An EP (Electostrictive Polymer) actuator has properties which change variably as shape and environmental condition. Therefore, in order to coincide with a user's purpose, it is important not only to decide a shape of actuator and mechanical design but also to investigate a efficient controller. In this paper, we constructed the control logic with an adaptive fuvy algorithm which depends on the physical properties of EP that has a dielectric constant depending on time.

유전자 알고리듬을 이용한 왕복동식 압축기 루프 파이프 형상의 최적화 (Optimization of the Shape of Loop-pipe in a Reciprocating Compressor Using Genetic Algorithm)

  • A shape of loop-pipe in a compressor affects the vibration of compressor. In this paper, optimal design of shape of loop-pipe to decrease the stress was carried out. Body and shell were assumed to be rigid, while loop-pipe is considered to be flexible. The finite element model was derived and programmed. Genetic algorithm was used for optimization. Locations of 18 point in loop-pipe were considered as shape variables, while the shapes of loop-pipe were interpolated as polynomials or ellipses. Maximum stress of loop-pipe was used as a fitness function for optimization. The spatial constraints and acceleration response of shell were also considered in optimization. The maximum stress and acceleration could be reduced by 79 % and 49 % respectively.

  • The basic systems of spatial structures such as shells, membrane, cable-nets and tensegrity structure have been developed to create the large spaces without column. These structures may have large freedom in scale and form, and especially tensegrity structures are received much attention from the view points of their light weight and aesthetics. But There re some difficulties concerning structural stability, surface formation and construction method. One of the way to solve these problems reasonably is a combination of tensile members and rigid members. A structural system based on this concept is referred to as the "HTS ( Hybrid Tension Structure )". This is a type of flexible structural system which is unstable initially, because the cable material has little initial rigidity. As cable - dome hybrid structures is a type of HTS, the initial stress for the self- equilibrated system having stable state have to be introduced. To determine initial stress having stable state, the shape finding analysis is required before the stress - deformation analysis. In this paper, the primary objective is to derive the nonlinear finite element formula of cable and truss members considering geometric nonlinearity for shape finding of cable-dome, and to propose the method to decide the initial stress by the shape analysis of cable-dome hybrid structure with the self-equilibrated state.

연성 대장내시경의 형상추정을 위한 센서네트워크의 설계 (Design of Sensor Network for Estimation of the Shape of Flexible Endoscope)

  • 본 논문에서는 센서 네트워크를 이용하여 의사의 동작을 흉내 낼 수 있는 내시경 취급로봇의 형상 예측방법이 제안된다. 3축 지자기계와 3축 가속도 계로 이루어진 단위센서가 CAN버스 통신을 통하여 네트워크를 구성한다. 각각의 센서 유니트는 연성 튜브로 만들어진 로봇의 길이방향 위에 있는 점들의 각들을 검출하는 데 사용된다. 센서 네트워크로부터 수신된 신호들은 Butterworth lowpass filter를 이용하여 필터링 된다. 여기서 우리는 노이즈 제거를 위하여 버터워쓰 필터를 설계하였다. 최종적으로 로패스 필터에 의하여 노이즈가 걸러진 신호들을 처리하여 Euler 각이 추출된다. 이 Euler 각을 이용하여 sensor network 상에 있는 각 센서의 위치가 추정된다. 우리는 로봇 바디가 링크와 관절들로 구성되어 있다고 가정한다. 그러면 각 센서의 위치는 각 링크의 중심에 부착되어 있는 것으로 가정할 수 있다. Euler 각과 kinematics chain model로부터 링크의 위치를 결정할 수 있다. 각 링크를 매끈하게 연결할 수 있도록 하기 위해 각 센서의 위치사이에 보간이 수행되어 최종적으로 작동 중에 있는 내시경의 최종형상이 얻어진다. 실험 결과는 제시된 센서 네트워크에서 추정된 Euler angle과 kinematic chain model을 이용하여 추정된 serial link의 형상으로부터 내시경형상을 가시화 할 수 있음을 보여준다.

구리 나노 큐브를 전기 도금한 레이저 유도 그래핀 전극 기반의 글루코스 측정용 유연 센서 개발 (Development of Flexible Glucose Measurement Sensor Based on Copper Nanocubes Electroplated Laser Induced Graphene Electrode)

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a non-enzymatic glucose sensor based on copper nanocubes(Cu NCs) electroplated laser induced graphene(LIG) electrodes which can detect a certain range of glucose concentrations. $CO_2$ laser equipment was used to form LIG electrodes on the PI film. This fabrication method allows easy control of the LIG electrode size and shape. The Cu NCs were electrochemically deposited on the LIG electrodes to improve electron transfer rates and thus enhancing electrocatalytic reaction with glucose. The average sheet resistances before and after electroplating were $15.6{\Omega}/{\Box}$ and $19.6{\Omega}/{\Box}$, respectively, which confirmed that copper nanocubes were formed on the laser induced graphene electrodes. The prepared electrode was used to measure the current according to glucose concentration using an electrochemical method. The LIG electrodes with Cu NCs demonstrated a high degree of sensitivity ($1643.31{\mu}A/mM{\cdot}cm^2$), good stability with a linear response to glucose ranging from 0.05 mM to 1 mM concentration, and a limit of detection of 0.05 mM. In order to verify that these electrodes can be used as flexible devices, the electrodes were bent to $30^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, and $180^{\circ}$ and cyclic voltammetry measurements were taken while the electrodes were bent. The measured data showed that the peak voltage was almost constant at 0.42 V and the signal was stable even in the flexed condition. Therefore, it is concluded that these electrodes can be used in flexible sensors for detecting glucose in the physiological sample like saliva, tear or sweat.

Experimental and numerical investigation of the energy harvesting flexible flag in the wake of a bluff body

  • Inspired by the energy harvesting eel, a flexible flag behind a D-shape cylinder in a uniform viscous flow was simulated by using the immersed boundary method (IBM) along with low-speed wind tunnel experimentation. The flag in the wake of the cylinder was strongly influenced by the vortices shed from the upstream cylinder under the vortex-vortex and vortex-body interactions. Geometric and flow parameters were optimized for the flexible flag subjected to passive flapping. The influence of length and bending coefficient of the flexible flag, the diameters (D) of the cylinder and the streamwise spacing between the cylinder and the flag, on the energy generation was examined. Constructive and destructive vortex interaction modes, unidirectional and bidirectional bending and the different flapping frequency were found which explained the variations in the energy of the downstream flag. Voltage output and flapping behavior of the flag were also observed experimentally to find a more direct relationship between the bending of the flag and its power generation.

IMS지향성과 기업문화 적합도가 IMS활동의 이행수준과 성과에 미치는 영향

  • With a sample of 147 Korean small and medium size companies, this study examined the relationships among degree of information orientation, corporate culture, degree of information management implementation and selected business performances in the process of implementing IMS improvement programs, such as IMS(Information Management System). Information orientation is defined as company-wide understanding and implementation of the underlying philosophy, principles, approached, and tools of information improvement programs. It is assumed that successful implementation of information improvement programs requires a information-oriented mind-set of the employees. The key elements of information orientation include continious improvement structured processes, organixation-wide participation and customer-focused spirit. Culture id defined as the value and beliefs of em organization that shape its behavior. It is also assumed that successful implementation of information improvement programs require strong support from s corporate culture that emphasizes cintinious improvement. Adopting the competing values model of Quinn and McGrath(1985), corporate culture is classified into 'flexible' versus 'controlled culture' and 'outer-directed' versus 'inner-directed culture'. Fitness was defined through the relationship between levels of information oriented and types of corporate culture. The results were as follows. First, it was found that when a company with high information orientation promoted information innovation programs, such as IMS, it reported higher degree of information management implementation and improvement in business performances. Second, the results showed the importance of 'flexible culture' and 'outer-directed culture' in performing information, innovation. Regarding the types of corporate culture, the analysis found that developmental culture, rational culture and group culture were effective. Third, companies with high information oriented and flexible culture or companies with high information orientation and outer-directed culture reported the highest implementation in Information management activities. Fourth, the results showed that the level of information management implementation had a mediating effect on the relationship between information orientation and business performance. It was also found that enhanced non-financial performance led to the improvement of financial performance. This study attempted to exaime the factor that lead information management program to success. In order to reach success, first, it is suggested that companies have positive mind set toward continious information improvement. Secondly, it is recommended that a flexible and outer-directed culture appropriate for continious information improvement is cultivated.

Cu/Sn 비아를 적용한 일괄적층 방법에 의한 다층연성기판의 제조 (Fabrication of Laminated Multi-layer Flexible Substrate with Cu/Sn Via)

  • 다층 연성기판은 높은 전기 전도성과 낮은 절연상수로 잘 알려진 구리와 폴리이미드로 구성되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 다층연성기판을 패턴된 스테인리스 스틸 위에 구리선을 전기도금하고 폴리이미드를 코팅함에 의해서 균일한 형태의 $5{\mu}m$-pitch의 전도선을 제조하는데 성공하였다. 또한, 다층기판 형성시 비아흘은 UV 레이저로 형성시켰으며 구리와 주석을 전기 도금함으로 이를 채웠다. 그런다음 비아와 전도선이 붙은 채로 스테인리스 스틸에서 벗겨냈다. 이렇게 형성된 각각의 층을 한번에 적층하여 다층연성기판을 완성하였다. 적층시 주석과 구리사이에 고체상태 반응(Solid state reaction)이 발생하여 $Cu_6Sn_5$ and $Cu_3Sn$을 형성하였으며 비아패드에 비아가 수직으로 위치한 완전한 형태의 층간 연결을 형성하였다. 이러한 비아 형성 공정은 V형태의 비아나 페이스트 비아와 비교할 때 좋은 전기적 특성, 저가공정등의 여러 장점을 가지고 있다.

전시공간에 표현되어진 체(體)지각 개념의 유형고찰 - '움직임'을 중심으로 - (A Study on physical conception expressed in exhibition space -Focused on Movement-)

  • The space where one's body lives is not only a space as the simple environment that is built with the physical factors, but also a space experienced by a movement accompanied by the concept of body perception including mental activities. In this study, the importance of the body is recognized and the meaning of the space of body perception including mental activities is understood. In this manner, the spatial unfolding phase and expression features are to be investigated through a standard of "What do they change?" by grasping those as a flexible space that changes spatial recognition. The following results have been drawn in this study; First, the application of the flexible concept in the space can give rise to the activities of an experiencing person in terms of being the object of spatial experience and appreciation. Also, the application changes a slightly static concept into a relative and dynamic space by introducing the movement. Second, the establishment of a space by a human's movement is accompanied by all perceptions and enables to perceive the space shape, the space itself and mutual communication between the spaces. Third, the expression of the human's movement in the fixed form of space lies in the extension of the fused spacial area with an observer beyond the physical spatial limitation. As human body intervenes in space, the meaning of the space has become more abundant and diverse and the space will be presented as the arena for sensitive and flexible communication as a responsive space that corresponds.
