  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of the network management system with intelligent mobile agent system. The proposed system dynamically selects appropriate its destinations. Thus, the system has an advantage of flexible network management in mobile network environments as well as dynamic change of traffic. Comparing its delay and throughput performance with the conventional SNMP based network management system, we find that the proposed mobile agent system performs better efficiency than the conventional one.

  • The terrestrial/satellite hybrid network may replace or supply the terrestrial network in some areas or certain application. Futhermore, it can play an important role in the development of B-ISDN due to their features of flexible wide coverage, independent of ground distances and geographical constraints, multiple access and multipoint broadcast. Also, satellite have the capability to supply terrestrial ATM and B-ISDN with flexible links for access networks as well as trunk networks. This paper describes the design and verification of the interworking protocol between terrestrial B-ISDN and satellite network. For the verification, the designed interworking protocol is modeled by Petri-net and analyzed by reachability tree.

  • When providing flexible data transmission for future CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) cellular networks, problems arise in two aspects: transmission rate. This paper has proposed an approach to maximize the cellular network capacity by combining the genetic transmission rate allocation and a rapid power control algorithm. We present a genetic chromosome representation to express call drop numbers and transmission rate to control mobile's transmission power levels while handling their flexible transmission rates. We suggest a rapid power control algorithm, which is based on optimal control theory and Steffenson acceleration technique comparing with the existing algorithms. Computer simulation results showed effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm Conclusively, our proposed scheme showed high potential for increasing the cellular network capacity and it can be the fundamental basis of future research.

  • The terrestrial/satellite hybrid network may replace or supply the terrestrial network in some areas or certain applications. For example, it may play a major role in global B-ISDN or in certain areas where the deployment of optical cable is not feasible, especially at the early stage of implementing terrestrial B-ISDN. Furthermore, it can play an important role in the development of B-ISDN due to their features of flexible wide coverage, independent of ground distances and geographical constraints, multiple access and multipoint broadcast. Also, satellite have the capability to supply terrestrial B-ISDN/ATM with flexible links for access networks as well as trunk networks. This paper describes the design and verification of the interworking protocol between terrestrial B-ISDN뭉 satellite network. For the verification, the designed interworking protocol is modeled by Petri-net and the model is analyzed by reachability tree.

  • A position control algorithm for a flexible manipulator is studied. The proposed algorithm is based on a fuzzy theory with a Steady State Genetic Algorithm(SSGA) and an Adaptive Genetic Algorithms(AGA). The proposed controller for a flexible manipulator have decreased 90.8%, 31.8%, 31.3% in error when compared with a conventional fuzzy controller, fuzzy controller using neural network, fuzzy controller using evolution strategies, respectively when the weight and the velocity of end-point are 0.8k9 and 1m/s, respectively.

  • For successful assembly of flexible parts, informations about their deformation as well as possible misalignments between the holes and their mating parts are essential. Such informations can be acquired from visual sensors. For robotic assembly, the corrective assembly motion to compensate for such misalignments has to be determined from the measured informations. However, this may not be simply derived from the measured misalignment alone because the part deformation progressively occurs during misalignment compensation. Based on the analysis of flexible parts assembly process, this paper presents a neural net-based inference system that can infer the complex relationship between the corrective motion and the measured information of parts deformation and misalignments. And it verifies the performance of the implemented inference system. The results show that the proposed neural net-based misalignment compensation algorithm Is effective in compensating for the lateral misalignment, and that it can be extended to the assembly tasks under more general conditions.

  • Recently, neural network is recognized as a new approach to solve jobshop scheduling problems in manufacturing system. Scheduling problem is known to be a difficult combinational explosive problem with domain-dependence variations in general. In addition, the needs to achieve a good performance in flexible manufacturing system increase the dimensions of decision complexity. Therefore, mathematical approach to solve realistic problems could be failed to find optimal or optimal-trending. In this paper a technique with neural network for jobs grouping by job-attributes and Gaussian machine network for generating to near-optimal sequence is presented.

  • Wireless smart sensors enable new approaches to improve structural health monitoring (SHM) practices through the use of distributed data processing. Such an approach is scalable to the large number of sensor nodes required for high-fidelity modal analysis and damage detection. While much of the technology associated with smart sensors has been available for nearly a decade, there have been limited numbers of fulls-cale implementations due to the lack of critical hardware and software elements. This research develops a flexible wireless smart sensor framework for full-scale, autonomous SHM that integrates the necessary software and hardware while addressing key implementation requirements. The Imote2 smart sensor platform is employed, providing the computation and communication resources that support demanding sensor network applications such as SHM of civil infrastructure. A multi-metric Imote2 sensor board with onboard signal processing specifically designed for SHM applications has been designed and validated. The framework software is based on a service-oriented architecture that is modular, reusable and extensible, thus allowing engineers to more readily realize the potential of smart sensor technology. Flexible network management software combines a sleep/wake cycle for enhanced power efficiency with threshold detection for triggering network wide operations such as synchronized sensing or decentralized modal analysis. The framework developed in this research has been validated on a full-scale a cable-stayed bridge in South Korea.
