The aim of this study was to investigate the change of the weight loss, tensile strength, flex stiffness, and color-values of the pigment-dyed cotton, polyester/cotton, polyester and nylon fabrics after washing process. Pigment-dyed cotton and polyester/cotton fabrics were treated with the cellulase, of which concentrations were 0, 1, 3 and 5g/l. The time of washing process ranges from 30 to 120 minutes. Pigment-dyed polyester and nylon fabrics were treated without enzyme, of which the washing temperature were 13, 30, $55^{\circ}C$ and the washing time ranges from 30 to 120 minutes. Also, they were tested in terms of the influences of agitation speed(rpm) and additives such as softeners, enzymes, detergents. The weight loss and tensile strength of the pigment-dyed cotton and polyester/cotton fabrics were positively correlated with the concentration of cellulase and washing time. Neither polyester nor nylon fabrics exhibited any change of the weight. All fabrics showed the decline of flex stiffness and decoloration after washing process. Decoloration of cotton and polyester/cotton fabrics was due to both the influence of cellulase and the mechanical rubbing. On the other hand, that of polyester and nylon fabrics was caused by the mechanical rubbing only.
In this work, the effect of fusible interlining on the appearance related properties and mechanical characteristics of Lyocell fabric after fusing was investigated. Two different types(20's and 10's) of Lyocell face fabric with six different interlining(by thickness and structure) for earth Lyocell fabric were examined. In order to establish the optimum fusing condition for the different face fabric and interlining, peel strength of each fused fabric was measured, which was dependent on the fusing temperature, pressure, and time. The characteristics related appearance and mechanical characteristics of each fused fabric were determined. The results are as follows: The peel strength was excellent, when the fabric was fused with the force of 3kgf/$textrm{cm}^2$ at $120^{\circ}C$ for 15seconds. Flex stiffness, G, 2HG, 2HG5(shear), B, 2HB(bending) of 100% Lyocell fabric 10's were higher than those of 100% Lyocell 20's. Flex stiffness, crease recovery, G, 2HG, B, 2HB of thicker woven interlining were higher than those of thinner woven interlining. Crease recovery of twill interlining were higher than those of plain interlining. In case of shear and bending properties, however, plain interlining was higher than twill interlining. Flex stiffness, crease recovery, G, 2HG, 2HG5, B, 2HB of nonwoven interlining were higher than those of woven interlining. In case of drapability, however, woven interlining was higher than nonwoven interlining.
Harmonic drives have attracted increasing attention with the development of materials, parts, and related equipment. Harmonic drives exhibit high deceleration, high accuracy, and light weight. The stiffness of flexible splines according to the radial load is studied using a commercial FEM program to design the structure of the flexible spline and finite element to improve the weight and price competitiveness of harmonic drives. In addition, several studies have measured and compared friction coefficients based on 3D printed tread patterns. However, owing to the characteristics of plastic materials, a decrease in stiffness in the radial direction is inevitable. To prevent a decrease in stiffness in the radial direction, we designed and manufactured flex splines with a wrinkle shape. Through structural analysis, the reaction force and stiffness in the radial direction were determined. In addition, the maximum angle of the mound was derived by theoretical calculations, and the performance of the harmonic drive was compared with the results obtained in the mound experiment. Structural analysis shows that the shape of wrinkles decreased the stress and reaction force and increased the safety factor in comparison with that of the circular shape. During performance verification through continuous experiments, the developed harmonic drive showed continuous performance similar to that of an actual tank model. It is expected that the flex spline with a compliant spring and wrinkle shape will prevent a decrease in the radial stiffness.
Denims were treated with neutral cellulase, acid cellulase, stone, and stone-neutral cellulase respectively at different cellulase concentrations varying treatment times in rotary washer. The effect of washing on denim was estimated by the changes in weight, color, back staining, tear strength, flex stiffness, and surface characteristics. Also the comparison of neutral cellulase, acid cellulase, stone, and stone-neutral cellulase washings was studied. Washing removes surface fibers and provides weight loss, color difference, back staining, and a decrease in tear strength and in flex stiffness. Stone-neutral cellulase washing and acid cellulase washing have a larger washing effect than neutral cellulase washing and stone washing.
The design challenges when attempting to obtain sufficient strength for a deepwater steel catenary riser (SCR) include high stress near the hang-off location, an elevated beam-column buckling load due to the effective compression in the touchdown zone (TDZ), and increased stress and low-cycle fatigue damage in the TDZ. Therefore, a systematic strength analysis is required for the proper design of an SCR. However, deepwater SCR analysis is a new research area. Thus, the objective of this study was to develop an overall analysis procedure for a deepwater SCR. The structural behavior of a deepwater SCR under various environmental loading conditions was investigated, and a sensitivity analysis was conducted with respect to various parameters such as the SCR weight, weight of the internal contents, hang-off angle (HOA), and vertical soil stiffness. Based on a deepwater SCR design example, it was found that the maximum stress of an SCR occurred at a hang-off location under parallel loading direction with respect to the riser plane, except for a wave dominant dynamic survival loading condition. Furthermore, the tensile stress governed the total stress of the SCRs, whereas the bending stress governed the total stress at the TDZ. The weight of the SCR and internal contents affected the maximum stress of the SCR more than the HOA and vertical soil stiffness, because the weight of the SCR, including the internal contents, was directly related to its tensile stress.
This study uses 3D printing technology to design and fabricate a fall impact protection pad with a spacer fabric structure. The design of the pads consists of hexagonal three-dimensional units connected in a honey-comb shape; in addition, the unit consists of a surface layer and a spacer layer. Protect pads were designed as either a hexagonal type or diamond type according to the surface layer structure; subsequently, a spacer filament was also designed as the most basic I-shape type. Designed pads were printed using four types of flexible filaments to select suitable material for a fall impact protection pad. Impact protection performance and bending stiffness were evaluated for the eight type of pad outputs. As a result of the impact protection performance evaluation, when the force of 6,500N was applied, the force passed through the pad was in the range of 1,370-2,132N. FlexSolid$^{(R)}$ and Skinflex$^{TM}$ showed good protection performance and cubicon flexible filament showed the lowest protection. NinjaFlex$^{(R)}$ was found to be the most flexible in the bending stiffness evaluation.
Objectives: This study compared the mechanical properties of various instruments for canal exploration and glide-path preparations. Materials and Methods: The buckling resistance, bending stiffness, ultimate torsional strength, and fracture angle under torsional load were compared for C+ file (CP, Dentsply Maillefer), M access K-file (MA, Dentsply Maillefer), Mani K-file (MN, Mani), and NiTiFlex K-file (NT, Dentsply Maillefer). The files of ISO size #15 and a shaft length of 25 mm were selected. For measuring buckling resistance (n = 10), the files were loaded in the axial direction of the shaft, and the maximum load was measured during the files' deflection. The files (n = 10) were fixed at 3 mm from the tip and then bent $45^{\circ}$ with respect to their long axis, while the bending force was recorded by a load cell. For measuring the torsional properties, the files (n = 10) were also fixed at 3 mm, and clockwise rotations (2 rpm) were applied to the files in a straight state. The torsional load and the distortion angle were recorded until the files succumbed to the torque. Results: The CP was shown to require the highest load to buckle and bend the files, and the NT showed the least. While MA and MN showed similar buckling resistances, MN showed higher bending stiffness than MA. The NT had the lowest bending stiffness and ultimate torsional strength (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The tested instruments showed different mechanical properties depending on the evaluated parameters. CP and NT files were revealed to be the stiffest and the most flexible instruments, respectively.
This study was to investigate the physical properties and the external characteristics of denim fabrics(100% cotton non-spun denim, 98% cotton/2% polyurethane spun denim) such as tensile strength, thickness and weight, flex stiffness, surface color and shrinkage. The results of the study were as follows. After examining the change of external characteristics of before and after washing finishing for denim fabrics, denim with bio washing had increased pliability compared to denim without washing finishing but the pliability of the denim did not increase according to the intensity or frequency of washing. The luminance change according to washing finishing was high in the order of bio stone bleach washing, bio stone washing, bio washing and denim without washing finishing and the surface color became brighter in accordance with the increase of intensity and frequency of washing finishing.
Functional properties are available with sputtering. But sputtering treatment alone cannot got a good fastness performance to washing, rubbing and light. This research was objected to investigate optimum condition by sputtering on polyester through various processing conditions such as ion current and treatment time, and then various resin treated onto metal coated polyester fabrics in order to increase washing fastness of metal membrane. As the results, the optimum conditions revealed 1500 mA of ion current, 2 min of treatment time in sputter, and suitable resin concentrations were 2% of o.w.s (on the weight of solution) in resin treatment. Therefore, we could get enhanced anti-static effect and flex stiffness as well as washing fastness in sputtered polyester fabric with various resin treatment, for example, melamine and polyurethane.

This study aims to provide useful information on the fatigue assessment of a top-tensioned riser (TTR) subjected to vortex-induced vibration (VIV) by performing parametric study. The effects of principal design parameters, i.e., riser diameter, wall thickness, water depth (related to riser length), top tension, current velocity, and shear rate (or shear profile of current) are investigated. To prepare the base model of TTR for parametric studies, three (3) riser modelling techniques in the OrcaFlex were investigated and validated against a reference model by Knardahl (2012). The selected riser model was used to perform parametric studies to investigate the effects of design parameters on the VIV fatigue damage of TTR. From the obtained comparison results of VIV analysis, it was demonstrated that a model with a single line model ending at the lower flex joint (LFJ) and pinned connection with finite rotation stiffness to simulate the LFJ properties at the bottom end of the line model produced acceptable prediction. Moreover, it was suitable for VIV analysis purposes. Findings from parametric studies showed that VIV fatigue damage increased with increasing current velocity, riser outer diameter and water depth, and decreased with increasing shear rate and top tension of riser. With regard to the effects of wall thickness, it was not significant to VIV fatigue damage of TTR. The detailed outcomes were documented with parametric study results.
