A Study Quantitative Analysis of Surface Roughness for Precision Machining of Sculptured Surface (자유곡면의 정밀가공을 위한 표면거칠기의 정량적 해석에 관한 연구)

  • A quantitative analysis of a surface roughness for a precision machining of a sculptured surface in milling process is treated under superposition theory in this paper. The geometrical surface rouhgness is calculated as a function of feed per tooth, path interval, radii of tool and cutting edge, and radii of curvatures of workiece. Through machining experiments in a 3-axis machining center, we confirmed the adequacy of the adequacy of the analysis. While cutter mark is neglegible in ball endmilling, it is significant in flat endmilling. When feed per tooth is very small, flat endmilling gives superior finish to ball endmilling. In flat endmilling, cutting condition and cutter path should be strategically chosen to balance the cutter mark height and cusp height.

  • This paper presents an investigation on the characteristics for new micro tool dynamometer by using the ultrahigh-speed air turbine spindle. Recently, the ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling has been investigated actively due to request of accuracy improvement and productivity of die and mould manufacturing. To perform efficient ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling, evaluation of ultrahigh-speed machinability must be studied preferentially and it can be identified by investigation of cutting force. The cutting forces in ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling can be measured by micro tool dynamometer. But general dynamometer has low natural frequency and so is improper for measuring very high frequency cutting forces in ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling. In this study, the micro tool dynamometer which has very high natural frequency is newly designed.

  • A multi-stage gear mold including gears of 2mm and 1.5mm diameter was designed and machined in this research for developing micro gear mold manufacturing technology with micro endmill. Mechanical shapes having differential micro teeth were analyzed to be formed as designed and processing conditions were optimized by analyzing machined surface chip and cutting force. Based on the results, a prototype of micro multi-stage gear mold was manufactured.

  • Inconel 718 alloy has been widely used in the aerospace, heavy industry and electronic industry. However, the machinability of this alloy is very poor, which is attributed to their inherent high strength that is maintained at elevated temperatures. The tool life is dominant problem in machining difficult-to-cut materials, so it is necessary to select the efficient cutting conditions for the improvement of tool life. In this study, the cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness are investigated in end milling machining under various cutting conditions. By this experiment, the efficient machining condition of this alloy is suggested to adopt in various industries.

  • Ultraprecision machining process and MEMS technology have been taken more and more important position in machining of micro parts such as PDP and IT components, as the application field of micro parts increases. A micro machining center is very effective equipment for the fabrication of micro parts, because of its benefits such as lower power consumption, high precision and lower machining cost. Therefore, we study the possibility of application to the micro machining of barrier ribs used in PDP and also analyse the machining characteristics. The fabricated barrier rib has 30~$200\mu\textrm{m}$ pitch and was made by the flat endmill with the diameter of 0.2mm, 40, 000rpm condition.
