Hard X-ray has been widely used in medical and industrial fields because it can be applied to observe the inside of a sample. Computed tomography provides sectional images of the sample through the reconstruction of the projection images. The quality of sectional images strongly depends on that of projection images. Ring artifact appeared on the seconal image can be made by the abnormal pixels of the detector used. In this study, we examine the ring artifact ratio in the circle phantom as a function of detection error of the detector used in computed tomography. The ring artifact increased with the increment of detection error under parallel and fan beam geometries and strongly increased near the center of rotation. The corrections, dead pixel and flat field corrections, for the images taken with the detector are required before the image reconstruction process to reduce the ring artifact in the computed tomography.

Most existing space-time coding (STC) schemes have been developed for flat fading channels. To obtain antenna diversity gain, they rely on channel state information (CSI) required at the receiver through channel estimation techniques. This paper proposes a new decision feedback decoding scheme for Alamouti-based space-time block coding (STBC) transmission over time-selective fading channels. In wireless channels, time-selective fading effects arise mainly due to Doppler shift and carrier frequency offset, Modelling the time-selective fading channels as the first-order Gauss-Markov processes, we use recursive algorithms such as Kalman filtering, LMS and RLS algorithms for channel tracking. The proposed scheme consists of the symbol decoding stage and channel tracking algorithms. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed scheme shows the better performance and robustness to time-selectivity.
Broadcast nature of wireless medium and path-loss reduction create a favourable condition for collaborative communications (CC) among single-antenna users to gain the powerful benefits of multi-antenna system without the demand for physical arrays. This paper proposes a CC strategy adapting to the propagation environment changes by optimizing the transmit signal amplification factors to simplify the structure of maximum likelihood (ML) detector and to obtain the minimum error probability as well. The closed-form BER expression was also derived and compared to the simulation results to evaluate the performance of the suggested solution. A variety of numerical results revealed the cooperation significantly outperforms non-cooperative counterpart under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).
Cooperative communications among users in multiple access wireless environments is an efficient way to obtain the powerful benefits of multi-antenna systems without the demand for physical arrays. This paper proposes a solution to optimize the weights of partnering users' signals for the minimum error probability at the output of maximum likelihood (ML) detector under the transmit power constraints by taking advantage of channel state information (CSI) feedback from the receiver to the transmitter. Simulation programs are also established to evaluate the performance of the system under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise).
Short wave infrared (SWIR) photovoltaic devices have been fabricated from metal organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE) grown n- on p- HgCdTe films on GaAs substrates. The MOVPE grown films were processed into mesa type discrete devices with wet chemical etching employed for meas delineation and ZnS surface passivatlon. ZnS was thermally evaporated from effusion cell in an ultra high vacuum (UHV) chamber. The main features of the ZnS deposited from effusion cell in UHV chamber are low fixed surface charge density, and small hysteresis. It was found that a negative flat band voltage with -0.6 V has been obtained for Metal Insulator Semiconductor (MIS) capacitor which was evaporated at $910^{\circ}C$ for 90 min. Current-Voltage (I-V) and temperature dependence of the I-V characteristics were measured in the temperature range 80 - 300 K. The Zero bias dynamic resistance-area product ($R_{0}A$) was about $7500{\Omega}-cm^{2}$ at room temperature. The physical mechanisms that dominate dark current properties in the HgCdTe photodiodes are examined by the dependence of the $R_{0}A$ product upon reciprocal temperature. From theoretical considerations and known current expressions for thermal and tunnelling process, the device is shown to be diffusion limited up to 180 K and g-r limited at temperature below this.

The new spectrometer for X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectroscopy (XIEES) .has been recently developed in KRISS in collaboration with PTI (Russia). The spectrometer allows to perform research using the XAFS, SXAFS, XANES techniques (D.C.Koningsberger and R.Prins, 1988) as well as the number of techniques from XIEES field(L.A.Bakaleinikov et all, 1992). The experiments may be carried out with registration of transmitted through the sample x-rays (to investigate bulk samples) or/and total electron yield (TEY) from the sample surface that gives the high (down to several atomic mono-layers in soft x-ray region) near surface sensitivity. The combination of these methods together give the possibility to obtain a quantitative information on elemental composition, chemical state, atomic structure for powder samples and solids, including non-crystalline materials (the long range order is not required). The optical design of spectrometer is made according to Johannesson true focusing schematics and presented on the Fig.1. Five stepping motors are used to maintain the focusing condition during the photon energy scan (crystal angle, crystal position along rail, sample goniometer rail angle, sample goniometer position along rail and sample goniometer angle relatively of rail). All movements can be done independently and simultaneously that speeds up the setting of photon energy and allows the using of crystals with different Rowland radil. At present six curved crystals with different d-values and one flat synthetic multilayer are installed on revolver-type monochromator. This arrangement allows the wide range of x-rays from 100 eV up to 25 keV to be obtained. Another 4 stepping motors set exit slit width, sample angle, channeltron position and x-ray detector position. The differential pumping allows to unite vacuum chambers of spectrometer and x-ray generator avoiding the absorption of soft x-rays on Be foil of a window and in atmosphere. Another feature of vacuum system is separation of walls of vacuum chamber (which are deformed by the atmospheric pressure) from optical elements of spectrometer. This warrantees that the optical elements are precisely positioned. The detecting system of the spectrometer consists of two proportional counters, one scintillating detector and one channeltron detector. First proportional counter can be used as I/sub 0/-detector in transmission mode or by measuring the fluorescence from exit slit edge. The last installation can be used to measure the reference data (that is necessary in XANES measurements), in this case the reference sample is installed on slit knife edge. The second proportional counter measures the intensity of x-rays transmitted through the sample. The scintillating detector is used in the same way but on the air for the hard x-rays and for alignment purposes. Total electron yield from the sample is measured by channeltron. The spectrometer is fully controlled by special software that gives the high flexibility and reliability in carrying out of the experiments. Fig.2 and fig.3 present the typical XAFS spectra measured with spectrometer.
Recently, Interest to the photoconductor, which is used to flat form X-ray detector such as a-Se, $HgI_2$, PbO, CdTe, $PbI_2$ etc. is increasing. In this study, the film layer by using the photoconductive material with particle sedimentation was fabricated and evaluated. The quantization efficiency of the continuous X-ray with the 70 kVp energy bandwidth was analyzed by using the Monte Carlo simulation. With the results, the thickness of film with 64 % quantization efficiency was 180 ${\mu}m$ which is similar to the efficiency of 500 ${\mu}m$ a-Se film. And $HIg_2$ film has the high quantization efficiency of 74 % on 240 ${\mu}m$ thickness. The electrical characteristics of the 239 ${\mu}m$$Hgl_2$ films produced by particle sedimentation were shown as very low dark current(under 10 $pA/mm^2$), and high sensitivity(19.8 mC/mR-sec) with 1 $V/{\mu}m$ input voltage. The SNR, which is influence to the contrast of X-ray image, was shown highly as 3,125 in low driving voltage on 0.8 $V/{\mu}m$. With the results of this study, the development of the low-cost, high-performance image detector with film could be possible by replacing the film produced by particle sedimentation instead to a-Se detector.
Background: To explored the value of 3D C-arm CT (CACT) guidance system in performing radiofrequency ablation (RFA) following transarterial chemoembolizationon (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinomas. Materials and Methods: RFA of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) were performed on 15 patients (21 lesions) with the assistance of CACT guidance system. Technical success, procedure time, complications and patient radiation exposure were investigated. The puncture performance level was evaluated on a five-point scale (5-1: excellent-poor). Complete ablation rate was evaluated after two months follow-up using enhanced CT scans. Results: The technical success rate of RFA procedure under CACT navigation system was 100 %. Mean total procedure time was $24.24{\pm}6.53min$, resulting in a mean effective exposure dose of $15.4{\pm}5.1mSv$. The mean puncture performance level rated for CACT guided RFA procedure was $4.87{\pm}0.35$. Complete ablation (CA) was achieved in 20 (95.2%) of the treated 21 tumors after the first RFA session. None of patients developed intra-procedural complications. Conclusions: 3D CACT guidance system enables reliable and efficient needle positioning by providing real-time intraoperative guidance for performing RFA on HCCs.
