  • To estimate the nitrogen budget and assess the purification function of a tidal flat ecosystem, a field survey was carried out at Hajeon tidal flat in Gomso Bay, the southern part of Byeonsan Peninsula, Chollabuk-do, Korea. A study area of 3.0$\times$4.5 ㎢ was established on the tidal flat and the concentrations of chlorophyll-a, DIN, DON, and TN were measured in the water column during the period of April 17-18, 1999: From the budget analysis, the loss rate of Chl-a was estimated to be -0.05 mg Chl/㎡/hr, which is approximately 7% of that at Issiki tidal flat in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The lower loss rate of Chl-a in the study area was attributable to the lower standing crop of phytoplankton, the lower temperature that may reduce metabolic rates of biotic components and the lower biomass of macrobenthos in the study area. Over the 13.5 ㎢ of study area, Hajeon tidal flat removed 8.36$\times$10$\^$2/ kg N/day of TN, 5.36$\times$10$\^$3/ kg N/day of PON and 1.62$\times$10$\^$2/ kg N/day of phytoplankton-related PON, showing that the tidal flats may play an important role in removing nitrogen in coastal waters. The removal rate of PON, compared to the removal cost of the existing waste water treatment facilities, indicates that the economic value of the purification function of Hajeon tidal flat (13.5㎢) may be more than that of two large facilities.

  • In this paper, we describe an algorithm for extracting depth information from a single image based on CNN. When acquiring three-dimensional information from a single two-dimensional image using a deep-learning technique, it is difficult to accurately predict the edge portion of the depth image because it is a part where the depth changes abruptly. in this paper, we introduce the concept of pixel-wise confidence to take advantage of these characteristics. We propose an algorithm that estimates depth information from a highly reliable flat part and propagates it to the edge part to improve the accuracy of depth estimation.

  • According to current design provisions for shear strength of reinforced concrete slabs, critical slab sections around columns should be modified in the presence of openings in slabs to consider the effect of openings on the shear strength of slabs. Although the method of estimating the ineffective part of critical section due to openings are explained in codes, the real math for calculating it is somewhat complex and cumbersome. This paper classifies different cases of the location and geometry of columns and openings, respectively, and derives corresponding equations for estimating ineffective part of critical section for each case.

  • To understand the basic relationship between 3D curved surface model and 2D pattern, simplified torso model was generated by commercial CAD program (IDEAS). 3D torso model was then divided into different blocks and unfolded into a flat pattern as in ordinary works of clothing item design. As results, 2D pattern development of different part of 3D torso model was attempted and analyzed mathematically. It was found that different height, radius and tangent slope of 3D blocks resulted in different 2D pattern. The relationships between the shape parameters of 3D torso blocks and those of 2D patterns were analyzed using regression equations. Direct way of drawing a 2D pattern of corresponding 3D torso block was also illustrated for the convenience of pattern making using conventional measurements of upper/ lower radii and height of 3D torso block.

  • In the recent, electro-rheological fluid has been used for micro polishing of the 3-dimensional micro-aspherical lens and some sectional parts with defects on the wide flat wafer. The ER fluid has the properties that its viscosity has drastic changed under some electric fields. Therefore, ER fluid can be applicable to the micro polishing fur some parts using these properties. In this paper, the experimental device has been constructed using the precision milling machine in order to micro polishing far some sectional parts of a 4 inches wafer It is consisted of a small steel electrode, a wafer fixture, DC10mA and 5KV power supply unit, and a controller unit. Using the ER experimental device, possibility of amending for wide flat wafer and micro polishing of some micro part has been analyzed.

  • The velocity distrubution at the exit of extrusion die depends on the width of bearing land very much. When uniform bearing land without flow guide is used, the material which is extended through the same die does not, deflect to the constant direction, but when the flow guide is equipped and then the volume compensation is done accurately, the material deflects to one constant direction. Therfore, the part of problem can be known exactly, and extrusion products of straight shape can be produced by the corrected bearing land width.

  • In the present study area, a part of intertidal flat in the Seosan Bay, west coast of Korea, characteristic three dominant tidal sedimentary facies and their related several typical sedimentary structures are described, Furthermore, a possible interpretation about the time stratigraphic developments of these intertidal deposits is suggested by introducing very late Quaternary (Holocene) sea-level rise in Korean Seas.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the turbulence intermittency measuring methods across the boundary layer in the transition region. A single type hot-wire probe was used to measure instantaneous streamwise velocities in laminar, transitional and turbulent boundary layer To estimate wall shear stresses on the flat plate, near wall mean velocities are applied to the principle of CPM. Distribution of intermittency factor is obtained by dual-slope method and compared to the results of four methods,$\'{u},\;\{U}$, TERA and M-TERA method. In these methods, M-TERA shows a good agreement in the near wall region. However, the result of M-TERA method shows that intermittency factor is underestimated in the outer part and outside of the boundary layer and the dimensional constant of M-TERA method should be changed appropriately depending on measuring point.

  • In this paper, cracking threshold for nanoindentation is analyzed by using 3D finited-element method. The analysis by maximum principal stress criterion can obtain the reliable results for determining to crack initiation location and load. Because the ratio of maximum principal stress to indentation depth for Victors indentation is smaller than flat-plane-column indentation and cracking for Victors indentation occurs from the inner part of specimen difficult to measure crack length, the nanoindentation facture test for flat-plane-column indentation is more effective.
