Flat Fluorescent Lamp(EEL) and LCD TV Backlight Using EEL as a Light Source (면광원 램프 및 이를 이용한 LCD TV용 백라이트)

  • A flat fluorescent lamp (FFL) was developed as a light source for LCD TV Backlight. The channels of FFL were realized by forming the flat glass at high temperature. The performance of the backlight with FFL was shown to improve by optimizing the FFL channel profile that has elliptical shape, 4.4 mm height and 1.4 mm sealing distance. In this paper, the brightness uniformity of LCD TV backlights was investigated by optical simulation of FFL channel profiles. The brightness of LCD TV using FFL with the optimized channel profile was shown to be $576\;cd/m^2$.

탄소나노튜브 에미터 기반 Flat Light Lamp 제작 시 금속전극 선폭과 간격 변화에 따른 전계방출 특성평가

  • Lateral 구조를 갖는 탄소나노튜브 에미터 캐소드의 금속전극 선폭과 간격은 탄소나노튜브 에미터 밀도와 게이트에 인가되는 전계의 크기에 밀접한 관계가 있어 전계방출특성에 큰 영향을 나타내므로 조속한 상업화를 위해서는 최적화 연구가 요구된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 금속전극의 선폭과 간격을 110/30, 80/30, 40/30과 120/20, 90/20, 20/20 ${\mu}m$로 각각 변화시켜 4.6인치 탄소나노튜브 에미터 기반 flat light lamp 개발연구를 진행하였다. 이때 사용한 금속전극은 2 mm 두께를 갖는 4.6인치 소다라임 글라스 위에 패턴 된 PR에 Ag를 sputtering하여 증착 후 PR을 lift-off하여 형성하였다. 이와 같이 형성된 금속전극은 ~1 ${\mu}m$와 12 nm의 두께와 표면단차를 각각 가지고 있었다. 형성된 금속전극 위에 유전체와 탄소나노튜브 에미터를 각각의 페이스트를 사용하여 스크린 인쇄와 소성과정을 통해 형성하였다. 이때 레이저 빔을 전극사이의 빈 공간에 조사하여 탄소나노튜브 에미터를 금속전극 위에 정밀하게 정렬하였으며 잔존하는 유기물과 유기용매를 없애기 위해 대기압 공기분위기의 $410^{\circ}C$에서 10분간 소성과정을 거친 후 접착테이프를 사용하여 잔탄 속에 있는 탄소나노튜브 에미터를 물리적 힘으로 수직하게 노출시켜 캐소드를 준비하였다. 애노드는 전계에 의해 방출된 전자의 측정과 전계방출 이미지를 얻기 위해서 P22 형광체와 Al박막이 증착된 2 mm 두께의 소다라임 글라스를 사용하였다. 캐소드와 애노드 사이의 간격은 6~10 mm로 유지하였고, 진공챔버의 기본 압력을 $5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr 이하로 유지하였다. 캐소드와 게이트 전극에 1, 4 kHz와 3% duty를 갖는 bipolar 형태의 DC 사각펄스파를, 애노드에 ~18 kV의 DC 고전압을 각각 인가하여 평가하였으며 추후, 이렇게 제작된 다양한 선폭과 간격을 갖는 탄소나노튜브 에미터 기반 flat light lamp의 전계방출특성과 효율에 대한 비교 연구를 진행할 계획이다.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Flat Fluorescent Lamp (평판형광램프의 제작 및 특성)

  • In this paper, we studied a flat fluorescent lamp with high luminance for LCD backlighting. The lamps have simple structures with ITO glass, insulator layer, phosphor layer, electrode layer and gas gap. The firing voltage was decreased with increasing the frequency. It was considered that this tendency was resulted from the space charge effect due to Xe and Ar positive ions trapped in gas gap. Decrease of uniform voltage at higher drive frequency is due to the remaining space charges which are produced by preceding period. As a result, luminance of 2700[cd/m$^2$] and maximum luminous efficiency of 51[m/W] were obtained with luminance uniformity of 96[%] in operation(700[V$\_$rms/], 80[kHz].

  • In this paper, the location measurement method for the reliable location data using ultrasonic sensors is proposed for the dimming control of the LED flat lamp. The measurement errors depending on the reflection angle of the object have to be considered to obtain the reliable location data in the ultrasonic sensors. In the experiment, the cause of the measurement errors depending on reflection angle is analyzed and velocity change of ultrasonic wave depending on reflection angle is measured. And the location measurement method depending on velocity change of ultrasonic wave is proposed. From the results, the average absolute deviation of the x-coordinates was 1.47cm when the location measurement method was considered, and it was closer to the true values than the average absolute deviation of the x-coordinates which was 5.89cm without regard to the reflection angle.

  • This experiment was analysed the discharge characteristics of FFL(flat fluorescent lamp). FFL is operated by sine and pulse wave source. We use FFL which has the electrodes covered with dielectric, observed the discharge characteristics of FFL by V-Q Lissajous' figure. When FFL is operated with pulsed, the discharge current flows after the applied voltage is risen. When the duty ratio increases, the number of metastable xenon atoms seem to increase. Consequently, the 172nm radiation becomes strong as the duty ratio increases.

  • In this study, we used screen printing on the rear glass with silver electrodes, phosphor and a dielectric which is on the silver electrodes, and carried out firing in the temperature of $550^{\circ}C$, $570^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$ each. To seal the rear and top glass together, we used crystalline frit paste as a sealing material with dispenser and carried out firing up to $450^{\circ}C$. As using this panel, we focused on optimizing the condition which influences characteristics of discharging by the distance between electrodes, electrode structure, type and pressure of gases for FFL.

  • 액정 디스플레이(LCD)의 대형화 및 저가격화와 더불어 전체 소비전력의 90% 이상, 모듈(module) 원가의 50% 이상을 차지하는 백라이트에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이에 기존의 냉음극 형광램프(CCFL)뿐만 아니라 원가 절감 및 특성 향상 기술로서 외부전극 형광램프(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp), 면광원(Flat Fluorescent Lamp), 발광 다이오드 (Light Emitting Diode), 전계 방출램프(Field Emission Lamp) 등에 대한 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있는 바 이와 같은 다양한 기술의 경쟁을 통하여 보다 고품질 및 저원가 백라이트의 개발이 가능하여 액정 디스플레이의 경쟁력을 확대시킬 것으로 예상된다.

Flat Fluorescent Lamp with Good Uniformity for LCD Back-Light (훌륭한 휘도 균일도를 갖는 LCD 후면 광원용 평판 형광램프)

  • In this paper, the frequency characteristics of flat fluorescent lamp(FFL) using ultraviolet generated from gas discharge are studied. The lamp is a simple structure with insulator layer, phosphor layer, and gas gap(1.1mm). The firing voltage and uniform voltage was decreased with increasing the frequency. It was considered that this tendency was resulted from the space charge effect due to Xe and Ar positive ions trapped in gas gap. Luminance in FFL using Xe as discharge gas was shown 2700 cd/$m^2$ in operation (700 Vrms, 80 kHz). Hence, the maximum luminous efficiency was 5 lm/W.

A Study on the Characteristics of High Brightness of LCD-Backlight (LCD-Backlight의 고휘도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the brightmess from inside gas pressure, applied voltages, and operation frequency conditions was measured and the discharge characteristics in FFL(Flat Fluorescent Lamp) also were measured and discussed. The brightness and lifetime after vacuum exhaust ($350^{\circ}C$ and 1 hour) ate remarkably developed. When the gas pressure of lamp-inside is high, the brightness is also increased automatically. But for the stabilization of operation and driving voltage, the highest values of brightness at about 1000[V], 300[Torr] and 64(kHz) are measured and the results are shown as the optimized driving conditions for FFL.
