A Study on Dynamic Characteristics Improvement of Fast Response Proportional Flow Control Valve (고응답 비래 유량제어 밸브의 동특성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to bring out the optimal design factors which effect on dynamic characteristics in the design of proportional flow control valve with fast response characteristics, and to verify the validity of the design factors In this study, force feedback type flow control valve with nozzle-flapper is studied. And, the influences which fixed orifice, nozzle diameter, and maximum displacement between nozzle and flapper effect on dynamic characteristics are analyzed. We have done simulations using the optimal design factors and simulink(Matlab) as a simulation tool, and verified the validity of our simulations by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of another similar valve.

Study on the by-catch prevention device of spring frame net trap for conger eel, Conger myriaster (붕장어 그물통발의 혼획 방지기구 개발에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • Present study was conducted to improve the spring frame net trap for conger eel, Conger myriaster which prevents by-catch and protects immature fish. A series of comparative fishing experiment was carried out in water off the south-east coast of Korea from Nov. 2004 to Jul. 2005. And analyzed the amount of catch, by-catch rate, and CPUE, etc. of experimental traps which were the spring frame net traps, sorted four types of flappers. And the compared gear was a plastic conger eel pot. The conclusions were as follows. By-catch rates of spring frame net trap with the compressed flapper bound by nylon mono-filament was about 0-3%. CPUE of spring frame net trap with the compressed flapper was about 50-60% lower than that of traditional and plastic pot. And in case of conger eel that the total length is over 350mm, CPUE was little different on each type of flapper of every mesh size.

Fishing Characteristics of the Mesh Size and Flapper Connecting Line for a Rockfish Sebastes inermis Trap (볼락(Sebastes inermis) 통발의 망목크기와 혀그물 연결줄에 따른 어획 특성)

  • To develop a trap to prevent the catch of juvenile rockfish Sebastes inermis and bycatch, we compared the fishing characteristics of four traps with different mesh sizes (35 mm and 50 mm) and flapper connecting lines (FCL) (3 lines and 4 lines).The number of rockfish caught in trap 1 (35 mm, 4 FCL) was 200, and juvenile rockfish (15 cm or less) accounted for 49.0%. The number of rockfish caught in trap 2 (35 mm, 3 FCL) was 185, and juvenile rockfish accounted for 58.9%. The number of rockfish caught in trap 3 (50 mm, 4 FCL) was 82, and juvenile rockfish accounted for 4.9%. The number of rockfish caught in trap 4 (50 mm, 3 FCL) was 68, and juvenile rockfish accounted for 22.1%. The total catch (bycatch rate) in trap 1, trap 2, trap 3 and trap 4 was 565 (64.6%), 637(71.0%), 260 (68.5%) and 276 (75.4%), respectively. The catch per unit effort (CPUE) for juvenile rockfish in trap 1, trap 2, trap 3 and trap 4 was 0.8, 0.9, 0.0, and 0.1 individuals/trap, respectively. The CPUE of bycatch in trap 1, trap 2, trap 3 and trap 4 was 2.9, 3.6, 1.4 and 1.7 individuals/trap, respectively.

Application in Anchovy Boat Seine of Ship′s Distance Measuring System by the GPS Receiver (GPS 선간거리계측 시스템의 권현망 조업에의 응용)

  • The charge of distance and the change of tack between paired boats were measured by ship's distance measuring system fixed MCS in the main boat and MS in the following boat. The operating depth of the anchovy boat seine was recorded and analysed by self memory temperature/depth sensor in order to compare the relationship between the distance between towing boats and geometry of the anchovy boat seine net. The results are as follow, (1) When distance between paired boat was 5m, the fishing net was spreaded down deeply and unstably in accordance with bag net and flapper may be help to pass out anchovy school. (2) When distance between paired boat was 100m, vertical opening of the net was gradually increased with higher slope of towing depth in the square, bosom and flapper. Therefore, fishing efficiency could be decreased by preventing the entering of anchovy due to unstable shape of the bag net. (3) When distance between paired boat was 200m, the geometry of the anchovy seine was stable condition with the end of bag net was up while flapper was down and it may cause bad effect in fishing efficiency. (4) When distance between paired boat was 300m, the shape from wing net to bag net was gradually slow down and stable enough as well as good shape in bag net and flapper. (5) The ship's distance measuring system could be used for measurement and accurate control of distance between paired boat in accordance of anchovy recordings by fish finder in order to get higher fishing efficiency in anchory boat seine operation.

  • Developing robot hands with multi-degree-of-freedom is one of the topics that researchers have recently begun to improve the limitation by adding flexibility and dexterity. In this study, an articulated servo-pneumatic robot hand system with direct-drive joints has been developed whose main feature is the minimization of the dimension. The servo-pneumatic system is advantageous to fabricate a dexterous robot hand system due to the high torque-to-weight and torque-to-volume ratio. This enables the design of a finger joint with an integrated rotary vane type actuator which produces high output torque without reduction gears, being very robust. In order to control the servo-pneumatic finger joints, a miniature proportional valve that can be attached to the robot hand is required. In this paper, a flapper nozzle type 4/3-way proportional directional valve has been designed and tested. The experimental results show that the developed valve can control a finger joint satisfactorily without much vibratory joint movements and acoustic noises.

Effects of Upstream Wake Frequency on the Unsteady Boundary Layer Characteristics On a Downstream Blade (상류 후류의 발달 주파수가 하류 익형의 비정상 경계층 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of the frequency of upstream gust on the unsteady boundary characteristics on a downstream blade was simulated by using a Navier-Stokes code. The Navier-Stokes code is based on an unstructured finite volume method and uses a low Reynolds k-e turbulence model to close the momentum equations. The MIT flapping foil experiment set-up is used to simulate the interaction between the upstream wake and a blade. The frequency of the upstream wake is simulated by varying rate of pitching motion of the flapping airfoils. Three reduced frequencies. 3.62. 7.24. and 10.86. are simulated. As the frequency increases, the unsteady fluctuation on the surfaces of the downstream hydrofoil is shown to decrease while the upstream flapper wake has larger first harmonics of y-velocity component. The unsteady vortices are shown to interact with each other and. as a result. the upstream wake becomes undiscernible inside the inner layer. The turbulence kinetic energy shows a similar behavior. Limiting streamlines around the trailing edge of the flapper are shown to conform with the unsteady Kutta condition for a round trailing edge. while limiting streamlines around the trailing edge of the hydrofoil conforms with the unsteady Kutta condition for a sharp edge.

Improvement of Sea Eel Pots (붕장어 통발의 개량)

  • Traditional sea Eel pots can be divided into two groups such as bamboo and plastic pots, however they are nearly same in a shape with one entrance and fishing efficiency, except their materials. Very few yet have been studied on their catching methods or catching mechanisms at the view point of behavior. Accordingly, we have designed tubular pots in order to fill up faults of traditional fishing gear construction and behaviors of sea eel. The suitable tubular pots was decided by comparative experiments in the water tank and the fishing efficiency was compared through the field experiments. The results obtained are as follows : 1. The differences between traditional plastic pots and improved tubular pots are firstly two entrances in both ends of tube without holes, secondly flapper nets are fixed at the end of each cone, and thirdly a bait bag is fixed at the center of pot. 2. The standard size of the suitable tubular pot is: $$Tube\;:\;\phi\;12\~13{\times}L80\;cm$$, $$Cone\;:\;Inside\;ring\;\phi6{\times}D5\;cm$$, Flapper : L10 cm. 3. The fishing efficiency of tubular rots is 2.3 times better than that of plastic pots.

Limitation and Overcoming in New Women Literature: Ella Hepworth Dixon's The Story of a Modern Woman (신여성문학의 한계와 극복: 엘라 헵워스 딕슨의 『모던여성의 이야기』)

  • Ella Hepworth Dixon's The Story of a Modern Woman is a pioneering female writer?s important work which was not deeply studied yet very influential in new women literature and its cultural global impact. Although women had been often praised for their beauties specially by romantic poets but their self-realization and innate values were not widely recognized until new women writers advocated their desires and active roles in the society at the end of the $19^{th}$ century. The new women writers including Ella Dixon gained popularity with their professional skills as the journalists or the contributors to the journals which were suddenly popular and actively circulated among Victorian women. From the 1880s to 1920s, in contrast with the traditional images of wives as ?the angel in the house?, these women new women writers broke the yoke of subjugated womanhood and instead tried to freely express their independent spirits and demanded their roles in the society. Although they were criticized sometimes as "the daughter of a new guise" "a lady of restless sex" or "the wild women," new girls? perky images in new women fiction brought into the new cultural phenomenon which led to the ?flapper? girl in the 1920s. Ella Dixon?s protagonist Mary Erle, strikingly similar to author herself, was a representative new woman who displayed a wide range of new cultural perspectives from a feminist?s viewpoint, but her untimely desire in the capitalized society was not fully accomplished, just promising the potentiality of the female solidarity which might be achieved later by her feminist posterity.
