  • In this paper, electric field analysis of 170kV class GCB is carried out. Considering the movement of arcing contacts during circuit interruption, electric field analysis between moving and fixed contacts is performed with changing the stroke length. From analysis results, electric field stresses are high at stationary arcing contact, moving arcing contact and varies at changing nozzle shapes. Specially, the stationary arcing contact shape has an significant effect on the capacitive small current interruption and the reduction of the electric field stress at this area is important. Varying the shape of stationary arcing contact, electric field analysis is carried out and the optimal shpae of the fixed arcing contact where the electric field stress is low is designed.

  • The link aggregation between 10GbE switches requires an advanced frame distribution method to be properly and efficiently applied. The fixed or dynamic frame distribution methods, formerly proposed, cannot fully utilize the aggregated links, where the receiving terminal only attaches to a pre-specified link among multiple physical links. A frame distribution method using tagging is proposed for the link aggregation between 10GbE switches to solve this problem. We compared the performance of the proposed method with those of the fixed and dynamic frame distribution methods. As a result, the proposed method shows a better performance when the applied load is below 0.7 and the average length of the frames is longer than 954 bytes.

  • Volume holograms recorded in photorefractive materials can find important applications in optical memories and optical computing systems. One problem with a photorefractive hologram is that it gets erased by the readout light. Nondestructive readout can be achieved by hologram fixing, and several fixing methods have been reported. Fixing is accomplished by thermally activated motion of an unknown ionic defect, which neutralizes the electronic space-charge patterns. At room temperature the ionic patterns are stabilized. When the electrons are partially redistributed by light, a net space-charge pattern appears, and tile fixed hologram can be read out. In this paper, theoretical modeling and some experimental results are presented for thermal fixing of volume phase holograms in photorefractive $LiNbO_3$:Fe. Thermal fixing can be done during or after recording and depends on fixing temperature ($100{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ range) and grating length. Fixed Slating can be erased completely at the temperature over $300^{\circ}C$. Theoretical modeling shows weil the compensation of electronic Slating by ionic grating and is in good agreement with experimental results. In experiments the dependence of thermal fixing on temperatures and grating lengths is investigated.

  • This study presents an in-vitro model designed to simulate mitral valve regurgitation, aiming to compare the quantification results between Proximal Isovelocity Surface Area(PISA) and 4D Flow MRI on both fixed and valve annulus tracking(VAT) views. The in-vitro model replicates the dynamic conditions of the mitral valve in a pulsatile environment, utilizing a piston pump set at 60 bpm. Through systematic experiments and analysis, the study evaluates the accuracy and effectiveness of PISA and 4D Flow MRI in assessing regurgitation severity, considering both fixed and valve annulus tracking. The displacement length measured in echo closely resembled that of optical measurements, making it advantageous for structural analysis. VAT-4D flow MRI exhibited the smallest deviation from actual flow rate values, establishing it as most accurate method for quantitative regurgitation assessment.

  • The genetic relationship of gestation length (GL) with birth and weaning weight (BW, WW) was investigated using data collected from the Hanwoo Experiment Station, National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, Republic of Korea. Analytical mixed models including birth year‐season, sex of calf, linear and quadratic covariates of age of dam (days) and linear covariate of age at weaning (days) as fixed effects were used. Corresponding restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and Bayesian estimates of variance components and heritability were obtained with two models; Model 1 included only direct genetic effect and Model 2 included direct genetic, maternal genetic and permanent environmental effect. All the genetic parameter estimates from REML were corresponding to the Bayesian estimates. Direct heritability estimates for GL, BW, and WW were 0.48, 0.33 and 0.25 by Model 1. From Model 2, direct and maternal heritability estimates were 0.38 and 0.03 for GL, 0.14 and 0.05 for BW, and 0.08 and 0.05 for WW. Genetic correlation estimates between direct and maternal effects were 0.05 for GL, 0.59 for BW, and 0.52 for WW. Estimates of direct genetic correlation between GL and BW (WW) were 0.44 (0.21). Positive genetic correlation of GL with BW and WW imply that selection for greater BW or WW would lead to prolonged gestation length.

  • There are limitations to process high bandwidth traffic in B-ISDN with mesh- topology single bus architecture of current mobile communication system. And, it is impossible to import ATM switch using fixed length packet rather than variable length packet. Some implementations are able to process variable length packet, but there are some problems such as pre-processing for synchronization and bit delay. In this paper, we design a concentrator that can manipulate variable length packet without additional pre-process. There is on bit delay for packet starting signal in input interface, So it is more efficient to process packets, such that the concentrator can reduce he processing time as $\ulcornerlog2N\lrcorne+1$ bit-time rather than N bit-time delay in ordinary concentrator. It is expected that the mobile communication system with partial mesh topology bus adopting the knockout switch architecture can process high bandwidth traffic in B-ISDN.

  • Background: The Korean native pig (KNP) is generally thought to have come from northern China to the Korean peninsula approximately 2000 years ago. KNP pigs were at the brink of extinction in the 1980s, since then efforts have been made to restore the breed by bringing together the remaining stocks in South Korea. As a result, KNP was registered as a breed in 2006. To find additional breed-specific markers that are distinct among pig breeds, variations in O-linked N-acetylglucosamine transferase (OGT) were investigated. OGT is located on chromosome X and catalyzes the post-translational addition of a single O-linked-${\beta}$-N-acetylglucosamine to target proteins. Findings: Length polymorphism in the intron 20 of OGT was identified. The intron 20 of OGT from Duroc, Landrace, and Yorkshire breeds was 281-bp longer than that from either KNP or Chinese Meishan pigs. The difference between the Western pig breeds (BB genotype) and KNP or Meishan pigs (AA genotype) was due to an inserted 276-bp element and the 5-bp ACTTG. Conclusions: The polymorphism in OGT identified in this study may be used as an additional marker for determining the breed of origin among Meishan and the Western pig breeds. The length polymorphism suggests that the locus near OGT is not fixed in KNP. This marker would be relevant in determining the breed of origin in crossbred pigs between KNP pigs with known genotypes and the Western pig breeds with BB genotypes, thus confirming the contribution of the X chromosome from each breed.

  • Objective : The transradial catheterization (TRC) is becoming widespread, primarily for neurointerventions. Therefore, the evaluation of radial artery puncture in clinical practice and a better understanding of the anatomy are important to improve the safety of neuroendovascular surgery. Methods : Ten formalin-fixed adult Korean cadavers were dissected to expose radial artery (RA), brachial artery (BrA) and subclvian artery (ScA), bilaterally. Vessel lengths and diameters were meaured using a caliper and distance between the specific point of vessels and the anatomical landmarks including the radial styloid process, the medial epicondyle of the humerus, the sternoclavicular joint, and the vertebral artery orifice were also measured. Results : The average length between the radial (RAPS) and the BrA puncture sites (BrAPS) and between the vertebral artery orifice (VAO) and the BrA bifurcation (BrAB) did not differ between sides (p>0.05). The average length between the radial styloid process (RSP) and the RAPS was $13.41{\pm}2.19mm$, and the RSP was $26.85{\pm}2.47mm$ from the median nerve (MN). The mean length between the medial epicondyle (ME) and the BrAPS as $44.23{\pm}5.47mm$, whereas the distance between the ME and the MN was $42.23{\pm}4.77mm$. The average VAO-ScA angle was $70.94{\pm}6.12^{\circ}$, and the length between the ScA junction (SCJ) and the VAO was $60.30{\pm}8.48mm$. Conclusion : This study provides basic anatomical information about the radial artery and the brachial route and can help improving new techniques, selection of size and shape of catheters for TRC. This can help neurointerventionists who adopt a transradial neuroendovascular approach and offers comprehensive and safe care to their patients.

  • This paper proposes a compression technique of image data, a variable length PN code and channel models which are required in CDMA communication system. It also analyzes their performances. Original images is compressed by 2-D DCT and its coefficients are quantized by optimal quantizer at compression rate 0.84bit/pel. Channel model 1 and 2 which are composed of 5 and 4 channels respectively are employed to be used in CDMA. Such a situation forces us to empoly variable length PN code, such as Chebyshev map for spread spectrum system. When average PN code length of model 1 and 2 is 44.4 and 26.7 chips respectively, the received image through these models under Gaussian noise with variance 1.75 is visually of the same quality as the transmitting image. Thus, the model 2 appears to be better in channel efficiency, comparing with channel model 1 and channel model which uses fixed length PN code.

  • In this paper, we propose a buffering scheme to improve the performance by adaptively adjusting the length of the buffering period according to the degree of data duplication among peers that belong to each specific playback period in P2P live streaming systems. To do so, we first assign all the peers into many groups depending on their playback time positions. We then determine the length of their buffering periods according to the number of peers belonging to each group. That is, we increase the length of the buffering periods when much buffered data are duplicated among peers within a group while we decrease it when few buffered data are duplicated. By simulation experiments, we show that our proposed buffering scheme can improve the performance significantly compared to the fixed length buffering scheme that have been employed in the existing mesh-based P2P systems.
