  • The '凸'-shaped, the '呂'-shaped and the hexagonal-shaped pit houses were excavated at the Youngdong area, some location along the upper the Imjin River and Han River between the Iron age and the kingdom of Hanseong Baekje. The aim of this study is to analyze various structural system and developement of the pit house with rectangular plan. It is considered a matter in all its aspects which are plan, scale, aspect, pillar holes, carbonized wood and several traces. These pit houses removes the pillar on the inside or it reduces to secure a wider space, it pursued the chamfered corner, the change of the front, the entrance fixed. Also these adopted diverse structural systems(the chuandou structure, the structural system of columns and beams and a bearing wall). But in the course of time, the Korean wooden architecture is developed gradually the structural system of columns and beams. It is presumed the result that overcome the limit with the close space and pursue the flowing space and compose a group of organizable buildings.

  • The spindle with a built-in motor can be used to simplify the structure of machine tool system, while the rotor has unbalance mass inevitably. Therefore, it is important to recognize the effect of unbalance mass. This paper presents analysis of dynamic behavior of a high speed spindle with a built-in motor. The spindle is supported by the angular contact ball bearings and the rotor is fixed at the middle of spindle. The spindle used in CNC automatic lathe has been investigated using combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The Houbolt method is used for the integration of the system equations and the dynamic behavior of spindle is obtained considering unbalance mass of rotor. Results show that increasing rotational speed of spindle magnifies the whirl responses of spindle seriously. Also the whirl responses of spindle are affected by the other factors such as unbalance mass and bearing stiffness.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of ultra-fine grained(UFG) plain low carbon dual phase steel, of which microstructure consists of hard martensite in a ductile ferrite matrix, has been investigated. The wear characteristics of the UFG dual phase steel was compared with that of a coarse grained dual phase steel under various applied load conditions. Dry sliding wear test were carried out using a pin-on-disk type tester at various loads of 1N to 100N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.20m/s against an AISI 52100 bearing steel ball at room temperature. The sliding distance was fixed as 1000m for all wear tests. The wear rate was calculated by dividing the weight loss, measured to the accuracy of 10-5g by the specific gravity and sliding distance. The worn surfaces and wear debris were analyzed by SEM, EDS and profilometer. Micro-vickers hardness of the cross section of worn surfaces were conducted to analyze strain hardening underneath the contact surfaces. The wear mechanism of the UFG dual phase steel was investigated with emphasis on the unstable nature of the grain boundaries of the UFG microstructure.

  • A cycloid speed reducer is a type of the speed reducers. The cycloid speed reducer has a eccentric rotating motion and offset to avoid some problem of assembly, so it has a disadvantage for vibration. In this paper, a multi-body dynamic model is developed for a cycloid speed reducer and the dynamic behaviors of the reducer are investigated. The cycloid speed reducer consists of cycloidal plate gears, housing gear, input shaft, output pin and shaft, and eccentric bearings. Using a CAD program, each component of cycloid reducer is modeled based on the offset and multi-body simulations are performed using Recurdyn. As a result, the pin reaction force and the amplitude of bearing displacement are increased by the offset.

  • When a tracking filter may be designed in the Cartesian coordinate, the covariance of the measurement errors varies according to the range and the bearing of an interested target. In this paper, interacting multiple model based tracking filter is formulated in the Cartesian coordinate utilizing the analytic solution of the steady state Kalman filter, which can be able to consider the variation of the measurement error covariance. 100 Monte Carlo runs performed to verify the proposed method. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the conventional fixed gain and Kalman filter based IMM tracking filter in terms of the root mean square error. The simulation results show that the proposed approach meaningfully reduces the computation time and provides a similar tracking performance in comparison with the conventional Kalman filter based IMM tracking filter.

  • Seismic isolation is a well-known method to mitigate the earthquake effects on structures by increasing their fundamental natural periods at the expense of larger displacements in the structural system. In this paper, the seismic response of isolated and fixed base vertical, cylindrical, liquid storage tanks is investigated using a Finite Element Model (FEM), taking into account fluid-structure interaction effects. Three vertical, cylindrical tanks with different ratios of height to radius (H/R = 2.6, 1.0 and 0.3) are numerically analyzed and the results of response-history analysis, including base shear, overturning moment and free surface displacement are reported for isolated and non-isolated tanks. Isolated tanks equipped by lead rubber bearings isolators and the bearing are modeled by using a non-linear spring in FEM model. It is observed that the seismic isolation of liquid storage tanks is quite effective and the response of isolated tanks is significantly influenced by the system parameters such as their fundamental frequencies and the aspect ratio of the tanks. However, the base isolation does not significantly affect the surface wave height and even it can causes adverse effects on the free surface sloshing motion.

  • This paper addresses the development of a scroll expander for power generation from relatively low temperature steam source. It has a double-sided orbiting scroll member so that no thrust bearing is needed to support the base plate of the orbiting scroll. Three power transmission shafts are placed at the periphery of the orbiting scroll base plate, and these shafts can also function as anti-rotation devices. Final output is obtained from the main central shaft engaged with the three power transmission shafts through gear assembly. The clearance between the fixed and orbiting scroll elements was estimated by comparing measurement of the mass flow rate with calculation results of a computer simulation. Due to large clearance, the expander total and volumetric efficiencies were measured to be $34\%\;and\;43\%$, respectively. It has been shown through the computer simulation that the total and volumetric efficiencies could be improved to $65\%\;and\;83\%$, respectively, if the current clearance is reduced by half.

  • Dry-sliding-wear behavior of Fe-18Cr-l0Mn steel with various carbon and nitrogen contents was characterized, and the effect of carbon and nitrogen contents on the wear was investigated. Dry sliding wear tests of the steel were carried out at room temperature against an AISI 52100 bearing steel ball using a pin-on-disk wear tester. Applied wear loads were varied from 10 N to 100 N, and the sliding distance was fixed as 720 m. Worn surfaces and the wear debris of the steel were examined using an SEM to find out the wear mechanism. It was found that the Fe-18Cr-10Mn with both carbon and nitrogen exhibited superior wear resistance to the steel with only nitrogen. The wear resistance of the Fe-18Cr-10Mn-xC-yN alloy increased with the increase of the carbon content. The excellent wear resistance of the Fe-18Cr-10Mn-xC-yN alloy was explained by the increased strain-hardening capability with the interstitial atoms.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics which are slump, air content and time of set in fresh concrete and compressive strength of hardened concrete containing slag powder and fly-ash. Replacement rate of FA is fixed on 10$\%$ and replacement rate of slag powder are 0$\%$, 20$\%$ and 30$\%$. Also AE water-reducing agents(standard type, accelerating type) are used. The results were as follows. (1)Slump flow of concrete using AE water-reducing agents is similar. Flowability is incresed when replacement rate of slag powder is increased due to slag powder's ball bearing reaction.(2)Time of set of concrete using accelerating type agent is more faster than that of concrete using standard type agent because of ettringite generation that promote setting.(3)Early strength of three-component concrete using accelerating type agent is higher than that using standard type agent. Therefore cumulative pore is reduced due to ettringite

  • Seismic isolation devices are commonly used to mitigate damages caused by seismic responses of structures. More damages are created due to progressive collapse in structures. Therefore, evaluating the impact of the isolation systems to enhance progressive collapse-resisting capacity is very important. In this study, the effect of lead rubber bearing isolation system to increase the resistance of structures against progressive collapse was evaluated. Concrete moment resisting frames were used in both the fixed and base-isolated model structures. Then, progressive collapse-resisting capacity of frames was investigated using the push down nonlinear static analysis under gravity loads that specified in GSA guideline. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed to consider dynamic effects column removal under earthquake. The results of the push down analysis are highly dependent on location of removal column and floor number of buildings. Also, seismic isolation system does not play an effective role in increasing the progressive collapse-resisting capacities of structures under gravity loads. Base isolation helps to localize failures and prevented from spreading it to intact span under seismic loads.
