The research period was November and December 2019. Two hundred and eighty five students were analyzed. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings show that empathy (β=.551, p<.001), emotional clarity (β=.288, p<.001), and satisfaction with college life (β=.092, p<.001) had significant effects on interpersonal competence with an explanatory power of 47.4%. Interpersonal competence had significant positive correlations with empathy (r=.641, p<.001) and emotional clarity (r=.443, p<.001). Therefore, it is important to reinforce the development and application of customized individual counseling programs designed to enhance empathy. This encourages nursing college students to understand emotional clarity, which helps them recognize others' emotions as well as their own and make proper reactions. Accordingly, satisfaction with college life, which adds more vitality to their college life, will increase the interpersonal competence of nursing college students. In the future, repeating and in-depth research should be conducted to include emotional and psychological factors of interpersonal competence. A standardized research tool will be needed to measure interpersonal competence.

  • The purpose of this was to examine the differences of large whopper swan (Cygnus cygnus) in wintering habitat preference among bridge sections of the lower Nakdong River of the Nakdong River Estuary, the largest whopper swan's wintering habitat in Korea. This species is designated and protected as Natural Monument in Korea. The survey was conducted in six time-series during the 2018~2019 wintering season, and it found up to 500 whopper swans were wintering in the lower Nakdong River. For the survey, a seven sections were set up based on the bridges across the river. Whopper swans were rarely observed in five narrow sections where the distance between bridges was less than 2 km. The stable population of the whopper swan was observed only in two broader sections where the distance between bridges was is over 4 km. As these sections were relatively little affected by artificial interference, the distance from the mouth of the Nakdong River was not a factor. Securing a stable space is considered as one of the most important factors for wintering of whopper swans, which are an endangered species. The survey results indicate that the distance between bridges should be at least 4 km to secure the whopper swan's stable habitat. These results are expected to be a reference to the development or restoration of the river ecosystems, especially bridge construction.

  • The aim of this study was to examine middle school students' career attitude maturity with five career elements(career decisiveness, goal orientation, confidence, preparation, and independence) related to relational(parent, teacher, friend) and school adjustment (school life, instruction, environment) variables. To accomplish this, 467 collected data was passed through correlation, and simple and multiple regression analysis using SPSS win 12. The main finding was that friend's support was highly correlated to and significantly affected career preparation and independence of the students. School life and instruction were also highly correlated to their career preparation. Parents' and teachers' support affected their career decisiveness. Their school life was an important factor to influence career decisiveness, preparation, and independence of the students. Generally, friends' support and school life of the students were the most important factors that affected the students' career preparation and independence. From the findings, this study suggests that middle schools need to provide more vocational education, diverse after-school activities, and teacher training to support middle school students' career attitude maturity.

  • A small irrigation pond for a rice paddy field is a very important refuge for aquatic insects and plants. To reveal environmental factors determining species composition of aquatic insect and plant communities, we analyzed water chemistry and connection between pond and surrounding in five types of irrigation ponds based on water source and connection in CCZ of South Korea: stagnation, exchange-stagnation, spring, stagnation-spring, and exchange-spring types. The stagnation type had the most stable water chemistry among the 16 irrigation ponds studied, and the spring type had the most variable water chemistry. Anion content was highest in the stagnation type, and cation content was highest in the exchange-stagnation type. 228 taxa including 63 wetland plants and 95 aquatic insect taxa were recorded. Six rare plant species and four rare aquatic insect species were identified. The stagnation-spring type had the highest species richness. There was no correlation between size and species richness. Multivariate analyses showed distinctive species assemblages among the irrigation pond types. This would indicate that water chemical change at annual cycle and connection influenced on the species assemblages in irrigation pond. In additional, irrigation pond contributes to regional biodiversity in agricultural areas, as irrigation pond provides heterogeneous communities for the freshwater ecosystem.

  • This study aimed to analyze the rate of increase and spread patterns of dead trees of the conifer (Abies koreana and others) in subalpine zones by using the high-resolution aerial images in Jirisan National Park around 10 years ago. Furthermore, factors affecting the death of conifer were identified by analyzing the altitude, topographical information, solar radiation, and moisture environment of the site where the dead trees are located. The number of dead trees per unit area increased by two to five times in the Banyabong peak, Yeongsinbong peak, and Cheonwangbong peak in Jirisan National Park over the past decade. The increase was about 2 times in the Banyabong peak, about 3.9 times in the Yeongsinbong peak, and about 5.2 times in the Cheonwangbong peak, indicating the most notable increase in the Cheonwangbong peak. It is estimated that dead trees commonly occurred in the environments where the soil moisture content was low due to the high slope, amount of evaporation was high due to strong solar radiation as the location faced south, and the soil was dry due to strong solar radiation and short rain retention time. In other words, dead conifer trees in subalpine zones were concentrated in dry location environments, and the tendency was the same more than ten years ago.

  • This paper aims to clarify if clustering effects among industries exist and if port-industry clustering effects exist. A knock-down approach was used in a survey and 16 industries were categorized. We defined which industry is more competitive in industry clusters and port-industry clusters. Another survey to experts was carried out to identify which industry is more appropriate to one of the three ports in Sudokwon (Seoul Metropolitan Areas): Incheon port, Pyungtaik port and Dangjin port. Five manufacturing industries are selected considering port-industry clustering relationships in this area and Analytic Hierarch Process was used for a pairwise comparison. Locational, social and economic factors are selected for 1st level. A result shows that Incheon port is more competitive in petroleum manufacturing, primary metal manufacturing and rubber and plastic manufacturing and Pyeontaik port is more competitive in metal assembly manufacturing and automobile and trailer manufacturing. However, sensitivity analysis shows a turnover of ranking in some industries. As there exist slight differences among three ports, cooperation is necessary when the government and Port Authorities make plans.

  • This study developed 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' to help design majoring college students who are seeking their career goals or conflicting to decide their majors. The subscales of the 'Design Career Aptitude Scale' are 'basic job competency', 'basic design competency' and' advanced design competency'. This study further classified the 'basic job competency' and 'basic design competency' into several subareas and defined each concepts. Based upon the classification of each subareas, tentative test items were developed through the verification of validity three times by seven design professionals. A pilot study of the developed scale was administered to 506 design majoring college students. The results by exploratory factor analysis were that the basic job competency was composed of four factors; ability of interpersonal relations, goal-driven ability, problem solving ability and self-developing ability. The basic design competency was composed of five factor, grounding in design, computer skills, material sensitivity, formative ability and color sensitivity. The results can be seen as an adequate, delicate factor structure to represent design aptitude, and also the scale can be a useful tool to the students who are conflicting to decide their majors and careers. The further study needed to validate the scale through the investigation of the relationship with related scales measuring designing ability, and with other criteria-referenced group.
