In this paper, a graph matching problem is modeled as a n optimization problems and a genetic algorithm is proposed to solve the problems. For this work, fitness function, data structured and genetic operators are developed The simulation results are shown that the proposed genetic algorithm can match feature points between model image and input image for recognition of partially occluded two-dimensional objects. The performance fo the proposed technique is compare with that of a neural network technique.

  • To accurately extract absolute distance information from a self-mixing interferometry (SMI) signal, in this paper we propose an approach based on a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm instead of frequency estimation for absolute distance. The algorithm is utilized to search for the global minimum of the fitness function that is established from the self-mixing signal to find out the actual distance. A resolution superior to $25{\mu}m$ in the range from 3 to 20 cm is obtained by experimental measurement, and the results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach in comparison with interpolated FFT. The influence of different external feedback strength parameters and different inertia weights in the algorithm is discussed as well.

  • In this research, EOG(Electrooculogram) signal was analyzed to predict the subject's intention using a fuzzy classifier. The fuzzy classifier is built automatically using the EOG data and evolutionary algorithms. An assistant robot manipulator in redundant configuration has been developed, which operates according to the EOG signal classification results. For automatic fuzzy model construction without any experts' knowledge, an evolutionary algorithm with the new representation scheme, design of adequate fitness function and evolutionary operators, is proposed. The proposed evolutionary algorithm can optimize the number of fuzzy rules, the number of fuzzy membership functions, parameter values for the each membership functions, and parameter values for the consequent parts. It is shown that the fuzzy classifier built by the proposed algorithm can classify the EOG data efficiently. Intelligent motion planner that consists of several neural networks are used for control of robot manipulator based upon EOG classification results.

  • This paper proposes a new method for accelerating the search speed of genetic algorithms by taking derivative evaluation and conditional random selection into account in their evolution process. Derivative evaluation makes genetic algorithms focus on the individuals whose fitness is rapidly increased. This accelerates the search speed of genetic algorithms by enhancing exploitation like steepest descent methods but also increases the possibility of a premature convergence that means most individuals after a few generations approach to local optima. On the other hand, derivative evaluation under a premature convergence helps genetic algorithms escape the local optima by enhancing exploration. If GAs fall into a premature convergence, random selection is used in order to help escaping local optimum, but its effects are not large. We experimented our method with one combinatorial problem and five complex function optimization problems. Experimental results showed that our method was superior to the simple genetic algorithm especially when the search space is large.

  • Recently, dynamic recurrent neural networks(DRNN) for identification of nonlinear dynamic systems have been researched extensively. In general, dynamic backpropagation was used to adjust the weights of neural networks. But, this method requires many complex calculations and has the possibility of falling into a local minimum. So, we propose a new approach to identify nonlinear dynamic systems using DRNN. In order to adjust the weights of neurons, we use evolution strategies, which is a method used to solve an optimal problem having many local minimums. DRNN trained by evolution strategies with mutation as the main operator can act as a plant emulator. And the fitness function of evolution strategies is based on the difference of the plant's outputs and DRNN's outputs. Thus, this new approach at identifying nonlinear dynamic system, when applied to the simulation of a two-link robot manipulator, demonstrates the performance and efficiency of this proposed approach.

  • In this paper we propose a facial feature extraction method by using a genetic algorithm. The method uses a facial feature template to model the location of eyes and a mouth, and genetic algorithm is employed to find the optimal solution from the fitness function consisting of invariant moments. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively extract facial features from face images with variations in position, size, rotation and expression.

  • In this study, an advanced form-finding method of tensegrity unit modules is presented to apply on renovation building. Here a fitness function of maximum natural frequency which can lead to a maximum stiffness status was used for a genetic algorithm. To apply the lightweight pin-jointed structure to the renovation project is more economical over to build new structures. In this paper, two types of tensegrity unit are presented to build expanded structures, and their force densities are shown using the proposed form-finding method. The expanded structures which may influence renovation projects are presented by using the tensegrity units.

  • This paper proposes an optimum design method using Teaching-Learning-based optimization for the fuzzy PID controller of Magnetic levitation rail-guided vehicle. Since an attraction-type levitation system is intrinsically unstable, it is difficult to completely satisfy the desired performance through the conventional control methods. In the paper, a fuzzy PID controller with fixed parameters is applied and then the optimum parameters of fuzzy PID controller are selected by Teaching-Learning optimization. For the fitness function of Teaching-Learning optimization, the performance index of PID controller is used. To verify the performances of the proposed method, we use a Maglev model and compare the proposed method with the performance of PID controller. The simulation results show that the proposed method is more effective than conventional PID controller.

  • In this paper, blind equalization using a modified Fuzzy C-Means algorithm with Gaussian Weights (MFCM_GW) is attempted to the heavy noise-corrupted channels. The proposed algorithm can deal with both of linear and nonlinear channels, because it searches for the optimal channel output states of a channel instead of estimating the channel parameters in a direct manner. In contrast to the common Euclidean distance in Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), the use of the Bayesian likelihood fitness function and the Gaussian weighted partition matrix is exploited in its search procedure. The selected channel states by MFCM_GW are always close to the optimal set of a channel even the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is heavily corrupted in it. Simulation studies demonstrate that the performance of the proposed method is relatively superior to existing genetic algorithm (GA) and conventional FCM based methods in terms of accuracy and speed.
