The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of admission and employment in fisheries high schools (FHS) and to consider ways to revitalize FHS through substantialization. The recruitment rate of new students in FHS decreased from 97.4% in 2016 to 83.2% in 2020. The aging training ship that FHS needs to improve most urgently is being jointly used by FHS across the country, and the construction of a joint training ship managed by the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology is being promoted. The average employment rate for FHS by year was 40.2-59.4%, and the fisheries-related employment rate was low at 31.0-38.9%. On the other hand, the acquisition rate of certificate of competence was 37.5-52.0%, and the rate of employment on board of those who obtained the certificate of competence was 42.9-59.8%. In order to secure new students and improve the recruitment rate, we operate experiential classrooms that reflect the characteristics of training ships and departments and conduct public relations activities using sns, publicity video ucc, YouTube, etc. It will be necessary to expand opportunities for fisheries-related vocational experience through active career exploration and elective courses in the FHS credit system. Finally, it is judged that fisheries related government agencies, industries and local governments need to improve their awareness of FHS and plan to support fisheries manpower nurturing in order to attempt the vitalization of FHS.
Notwithstanding Korea and P. R.China are located in the neighborhood each other geographically, the break of diplomatic relations of them continued a long term, and the difference of ideology and social structure of two countries was acting as a barrier to understand each other in many fields. Two countries established formal diplomatic relation in 1992, and then the interchange and mutual cooperation between both countries are being performed rapidly, but the field of fisheries education and research system is continuing in the early stage yet. It can be easily expected that the interchange and mutual cooperation in the field of fisheries through the ocean contribute not only to the international friendship, but to the rational management of fisheries resources. In accordence with the necessity mentioned above, the author considered the general situation of fisheries education and research system in P. R. China. P. R. China runs two kinds of fisheries education system which are regular and irregular system. The regular education system is the principal means of cultivating fisheries scientists and technicians. And there are three grade levels in regular education : the tasks of which are undertaken by the fisheries universities, fisheries colleges and fisheries high schools. Adult education system in fisheries are of the following types : fishery cadet training courses, evening schools, correspondence courses and broadcasting or TV programs. The fisheries research in P. R. China is undertaken by the research institutes under the Bureau of Aquatic Products, and the basic research of oceanography is undertaken by the oceanographic institutes under the Chinese Academy of Science.
The purpose of this study is to examine the implementation of the elective curriculum in academic high school. Elective curriculum of the high school seems to take more important status than that in the 6th national curriculum. The number of elective subjects of the high school increased from 60 different subjects for the 6th national curriculum to 79 different subjects for the 7th national curriculum. In addition, students can make their own courses and have a right to choose the subjects. In order to ascertain how elective subjects are being implemented and whether students can choose the subjects they wish to learn, this study conducted a national survey. The results of this survey are as follows. Despite the emphasis of the 7th national curriculum on the elective subjects in academic high schools, the curriculum implementation of elective subjects seems to be unacceptable. In most schools, only two typical courses such as humanities/social sciences and natural sciences courses are being offered for students as elective courses, and the scope of elective subjects students can choose appears very narrow. That's why we need to do research in order to improve implementation of elective subjects.
This study assessed dominant fish species, and the characteristics and spatio-temporal distribution of fish schools using acoustic and catch data in the marine ranching area (MRA) of Yeosu in July and August 2013. Acoustic data were collected using a 200-kHz dual beam transducer, and catch data were analyzed through auction data generated by a set net installed in the MRA. More fish schools were detected by acoustic methods in July than in August. The temporal distribution of fish schools differed between July and August, but, many schools demonstrated a high mean volume scattering strength (SV) around artificial reefs. Additionally, the characteristics of fish schools detected by echograms and the species caught by set nets differed between July and August. The dominant fish species were Engraulis japonicus, Pampus argenteus, Scomberomorus niphonius, and Pampus echinogaster in July, and approximately 85% of the catch in August consisted of Scomberomorus niphonius. Therefore, hydro-acoustic tools are useful for estimating fish school characteristics in large areas over a short period. To determine species, it is important to conduct net sampling surveys during the acoustic surveys. However, if a database of fish school characteristics organized by species is constructed through continuous study, it could be possible to identify fish species through acoustic methods alone.
This study is supposed to grasp how The Entrepreneurship education(BizCool) that has been set as an example since April, 2002 has changed the Vocational high school students' perception of values or courses and then as the result of it, to get the early outcome of The Bizcool. The extent of the model schools mainly concentrated in the industrial and commercial department has to be spreaded to the students of various departments. In addition, diversification of the teaching material would be able to support the accomplishment of the suitable The Bizcool. The effectiveness of The Bizcool has been proven in various parts today, so its application is being magnified gradually. Also it is expected that many schools will adopt this program from now on. The Bizcool that has been executed to enhance the vision and self-confidence of the vocational high school students for their foundation, needs first of all, persistent support, investment and administration, and through these processes it will contribute to change the awareness about social unemployment problems and the vocational high schools.
Properties of aggregation and spatial distribution of fish were examined based on three lines in the South Sea of Korea using three frequencies (18, 38, and 120 kHz) of a scientific echosounder. The vertical distribution of fish was displayed using acoustic biomass namely nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC). As a result, at 120 kHz high NASC showed from water surface to 20 meters in deep while at 18 and 38 kHz very high NASC presented in 70 ~ 90 meters in depth, especially at line 3. Among three lines, the line 2 had lowest NASC. The horizontal distribution of fish using three frequencies together exhibited high NASC between the eastern South Sea and center of South Sea. In especial, NASC ($801{\sim}1,920m^2/n{\cdot}mile^2$) was observed along coastal waters from Busan to Tongyeong, Geoje, and Namhae. In regard with the property of aggregation of fish schools, the volume back-scattering strength ($S_V$) of three lines presented close each other, however, the range of $S_V$ in the line 2 was shortest (-53.5 ~ -43.4 dB). The average distributional depth was deep in the order of L3 ($32.8{\pm}9.0m$), L1 ($45.2{\pm}9.5m$), L2 ($49.7{\pm}5.6m$). The average altitude was high in the order of L3 ($13.4{\pm}10.3m$), L1 ($17.0{\pm}12.6m$), L2 ($56.7{\pm}5.6m$). The average length, thickness, and area were large in the order of L1, L3, and L2. This means that small sized fish schools were distributed near water surface in the line 2 while relatively large and similar sized fish aggregations between line 1 and line 3 appeared however, fish schools at line 3 had lower distributional depth and smaller compared to those at line 1. Acoustic data were visualized for demonstrating the entire circumstances of survey area. Additionally, there was no correlation between acoustic and trawl results.
1. Purpose of the study: This study was to investigate and analyse the career decision making patterns of students, which would enhance vocational guidance activities for the students. The specific purposes of the study are as follows. 1) To find how much the fisheries high school students are satisfied with the school. 2) To find out the factors which would influence the fisheries high school students in their career decision making. 3) To find out the person who plays the most important role in the career decision making of the students 4) To find out the patterns of behavior taken by the fisheries high school students in their career decision making. 2. Hypotheses: The following hypotheses were tested for this study. 1) There would be significant differences in the extent of school-satisfaction, depending on the class level and major. 2) There would be significant differences in the value criterion with which the fisheries high school students make decisions on their careers, depending on the grades, majors, and the levels of school-satisfaction. 3) There would be significant differences in the human factors which affect their decision-making on their career, depending on the class levels, majors, and the levels of school satisfaction. 4) There would be significant differences in the patterns of behavior they take when they make decisions on their careers depending on the grades, majors and the levels of school satisfaction. 3. Methods of the study: For the verification of the above hypotheses, a questionaire was developed by the researcher, and the questionaire was answered by the total 440 students from three fisheries high schools, located in the rural and urban areas, out of 8 fisheries high schools in Korea. The questionaire was composed of two major parts: school-satisfaction (10 items) and career decision making patterns (39 items). The career decision-making patterns include 16 value criterion items, 10 human category items, and 13 behavior category items. 4. Results of the study: 1) School satisfaction; There was no significant difference in school satisfaction depending on the class level and major. 2) Value criteria; a) Almost of the fisheries high school students think that the potential for advancement, job security, and salary are important factors for their job. b) The seafarer-students rated the salary, prestige of the occupation and leadership to be important than the nonseafarer-students. The nonseafarer-students rated the stabilization of their livelihood and opportunity to use their creative ideas than the seafarer-students. c) The students unsatisfied with their school emphasize the working environment, variety of work duties and leisure more than the satisfied ones. 3) Human factors: a) The fisheries high school students are affected most by their homeroom teachers, major teachers and their parents, but they are less influenced by their counselor. b) The seniors are more affected by their friends or classmates than the freshmen, and especially seafarer-students are more affected by major teachers. c) The persons, who are working in the occupation they are interested in, exert more influence on unsatisfied students than class-teachers do. 4) Behavior patterns; a) Most of them want test their abilities. b) The nonseafarer-students and seniors tend to depend on their own intuitions. c) The seafarer-students, the freshmen, and the satisfied with their school tend to discuss with other persons, and the unsatisfied tend to be influenced by the information that they collect for themselves.
This study tested the relations of schools organizational climate and teachers' job stresses, perceived by 913 teachers from 45 elementary, junior- and senior-high schools. Pearson's correlation analysis for the relations between the sub-factors of both organizational climate and job stresses and cannonical correlation analysis for the relative contribution of individual variable of organizational climate upon job stress were applied for the test. The results of Pearson's correlation analysis showed that while 'intimacy', 'esprit', 'considerations', and 'production emphasis' climate had negative correlations with job stress sub-factors, 'disengagement' and 'aloofness' climate had positive correlation. 'Student guidance', a sub-factor of job stresses, did not have statistically significant correlation with any sub-factors of organizational climate. Findings from cannonical correlation analysis showed 2 significant cannonical functions to explain the relations between the sets of variables. 'Disengagement' from organizational climate positively contributed with 'authority forfeiture' and 'dissention and conflict' of the job stresses variables.
