  • The aims of this study were to validate the Occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime High school. Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were defined as the abilities that include the essential knowledge, skills, attitude, and experiences required for the workforce on the fisheries and maritime job condition. This research collected preliminary data from 1,113 fisheries & maritime high school students. Data were analyzed to obtain reliability and validity analysis. The results of the study were as follows; First, fisheries & maritime key competencies were divided into 6 elements. Second, fisheries & maritime key competencies were consisted of marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowlegde, marine safety management skill, management & utilization of marine life and marine consciousness. Third, Cronbach-${\alpha}$ proves that the scale developed in the study is reliable. In consequence, the results of this study help to reconceptualize fisheries & maritime and apply the scale to measure students in high school settings.

  • The maturity and spawning of the yellow goosefish Lophius litulon were studied using samples collected monthly from January to December 2018 from the coastal waters of Korea. We analyzed monthly changes in maturity stage, gonadosomatic index (GSI), total length (TL) at 50%, 75%, and 97.5% group maturity, egg diameter and fecundity. The spawning period was from January to June. The size of eggs spawned was between 0.30 to 1.28 mm. Fecundity varied between 328,314 to 1,624,783 eggs. The percentage of sexually mature females estimated from a logistic function was over 50% at 48.67 cm TL, 75% at 56.76 cm TL and 97.5% at 74.89 cm TL.

  • A rapid increase in population is most likely to become a menace to human existence, and will cause unfavorable effects. Therefore, we must consider it as an urgent task to make use of marine resources in various ways. Korea particularly laks potential resources, so has no other way but to exploit and utilize the resources for its overall economic growth. In therms of these viewpoints. this report studies the constructive measures and programme for promoting Korean marine industry education after reassessing the aspects of marine industry and analyzing the present situation and problems of the Korean science and technology today. Under these circumstances. it is suggested that financial and administrative support be afforded by government and the authorities concerned for the reformation of curriculum and educational system, inverstment growth for improving educational environments and research conditions. In addition, administrators and teachers are expected to exert their utmost efforts to bring ahout encouraging results in the marine industry education.

  • Marine recreational fishing is one of the most popular outdoor leisures and the number of people who are participating is sharply increasing more and more because of the increasement of their income and demand for marine leisure. However our ecosystem is inevitably facing marine environmental deterioration and overfishing. That is because marine recreational fisheries resources are common property resources which can be catched by anyone not willing to pay for them except their private costs as commercial fisheries. Also fisheries resources unlike other resources are renewable resources and have a critical zone. That is, having a possibility of severe depletion may result from high discount rates used by private exploiters. This paper is focused on that marine recreational fishing license system which is adopted in most advanced countries such as Canada and U.S. and included in deterioration. And money obtained by license fee should be spent for more improvement fishing culture and welfare for marine recreational fishers. This system can lower the high rates of discount and be useful to become a sustainable marine recreational fishing industry.

  • The object of this study is to provide a framework of increasing the effectiveness of the R&D planning of experts in fisheries and the education of students with the theoretical background and analytical skills through the adoption of technology roadmapping process in the marine production industry. The study was conducted by fact-finding surveys and the response content for surveys obtained from each expert advisor in the field of fisheries and maritime affairs such as fishery industries, some government organizations and research institutes including the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF), National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) and fisheries-related universities was analyzed. The major implementation tasks to effectively achieve the basic goals of technology roadmap for short and middle-term research and development in the fisheries production field are as follows: 1. Research in order to achieve the realization of community-based resource management fisheries or fishermen-oriented co-management fisheries with paradigm shift in fisheries management. 2. Research in order to derive the construction of cost reducing and manpower saving systems in fishery-related science, technology and engineering. 3. Research in order to create the high value-added fisheries products with a focus on the upgrading of processing, freezing and refrigerating facilities, the reduction of logistics costs and the minimization of distribution steps. 4. Research in order to achieve the realization and development of environmental-friendly fisheries and internationally competitive fisheries through restructuring the entire fishing industries, in particular, small-scale fisheries. 5. Research in order to achieve the effective utilization of fisheries resources with a new creation of clean and living marine environment by fisherman under the balanced management and protection of marine living resources and fishing grounds.
