A Development of the Elements on Occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime High School Students (수산·해운계 고등학교 학생의 직업기초능력 요소 개발)

  • The aims of this study are to analysis the elements associated with a occupational basic competencies of fisheries and maritime high school students. Fisheries & maritime key competencies were defined as the abilities that include the essential knowledge, skills, attitude, and experiences required for the workforce on the fisheries and maritime job condition. This research collected preliminary data from 177 fisheries & maritime high school teachers. Data were analyzed to obtain item quality, reliability and validity analysis. The results of the study were as follows; First, largely, fisheris & maritime key competencies were divided into two parts; basic vocational skills and fisheries-maritime job skills. Second, fisheries & maritime key competencies were consisted of communicative competence, numeracy skills, thinking skills, English communication skills, self-management skills, interpersonal competency, selection & application of alternative, marine technology & information skills, marine consciousness and maritime professional ethics. Third, each key competency consisted of 2-9 sub-competencies.

  • The aims of this study were to validate the Occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime High school. Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were defined as the abilities that include the essential knowledge, skills, attitude, and experiences required for the workforce on the fisheries and maritime job condition. This research collected preliminary data from 1,113 fisheries & maritime high school students. Data were analyzed to obtain reliability and validity analysis. The results of the study were as follows; First, fisheries & maritime key competencies were divided into 6 elements. Second, fisheries & maritime key competencies were consisted of marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowlegde, marine safety management skill, management & utilization of marine life and marine consciousness. Third, Cronbach-${\alpha}$ proves that the scale developed in the study is reliable. In consequence, the results of this study help to reconceptualize fisheries & maritime and apply the scale to measure students in high school settings.

An Analysis on Employment to On-board Departments Graduates of Maritime and Fisheries High Schools (수·해운계 고교 승선과 졸업생의 해상직취업 진로분석)

  • In order to improve the employment rate of graduates in maritime and fisheries high schools, we investigated the employment situations of the those graduates for the last 8 years. The results were as follows, The ratio of graduates in maritime and fisheries high schools to total graduates of on-board departments are 69.1% and 30.9% respectively. The on-board employment rate of maritime high schools and fisheries high schools graduates are 63.2% and 26.7% respectively. Nearly all of the maritime high schools students were employed to merchant ship and fisheries high schools students were employed to merchant ship 77.2% and only 22.8% of them got a job on fisheries ship. The ratio of getting a job in maritime high schools to ocean-going ship was 76.7%, that was the highest ratio and the ratio of fisheries high schools got a job to ocean-going ship was 55.1%. The on-board career of maritime high schools graduates was 1~5 years, which took 86.4% of all careers and that of fisheries high schools was less than 1 year, which took 60.0% of all careers. We should make the various efforts to improve the employment rate of getting job to fisheries ship in the fisheries high school graduates.

  • The purpose of this research was made to suggest the improvement for problems of indication subject of Fisheries & Maritime High School teacher's certificate issued by the operation of the 7th national curriculum in 2000. After analyzing the integrated indication subjects related with fisheries & Maritime high school, among the middle school teacher's 24 subjects of industrial world, the problems and improvements can be arranged as followed. Firstly, the subjects of fisheries & Maritime high school teacher's certificates are fishing industry, aquiculture, sailing, engine and freezing and new subjects are ocean shipping and ocean logistics. Because the teacher's certificate was changed to integrated indication subjects, there were problems of teacher cultivation, teacher hiring, etc. So, in the actual field of school, teacher cultivating university and related department are necessary to strengthen high-quality majoring education/subjects and practical education as well as need to establish teacher cultivating system by teacher cultivating organization's evaluation system and teacher cultivating education program related by differentiation and easiness of majoring characterization. Secondly, teacher cultivating for new departments and new subjects can apply related major system, free major system, etc. Thirdly, if professional high schools find majoring areas whose content is same one another and introduce common indication subject system, it will be helpful to improve the quality of teachers, teacher certification examination, etc. of professional area.

A Study on the Level of the Occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime High School Students (수해운계 고등학교 학생들의 직업기초능력 수준 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the ability level of the occupational Basic Competencies of Fisheries and Maritime(F&M) high school students using F&M basic skills scale. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the level was analyzed with the Fisheries and Maritime ability scale, comparing each grade level & department. This study was applied to the literature and research methods. This research was conducted collecting preliminary data from 1,113 F&M high school freshman and sophomore students. This survey of 46 questions was used to measure for F&M ability scale-divided into 6 areas-marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, marine safety management skill, management & utilization marine life and marine consciousness. The results of this study were as follows; First, in F&M high school students' competencies, marine vocational ethics, marine consciousness was higher, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, marine safety management skill were middle, management & utilization marine life was lower. Second, in the grade level, 5 competencies(marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, management & utilization life and marine consciousness) were not different, but 2 Grade was higher than 1 Grade in the marine safety management skill. Third, comparing F&M department, Maritime department were higher than fisheries in 5 competencies. But, fisheries department was higher than maritime in the management & utilization life competencies.

A Study on Awareness of Food Additives and Nutrition Education in High School Students (고등학생들의 식품첨가물에 대한 인식 및 영양교육의 실태 분석)

  • The purpose of this study consists in analyzing the reality of processed food intake by students in different educational environments such as fisheries maritime high schools and general high schools and their awareness of food additives and investigating the reality of nutrition education. In order to achieve this purpose, we selected a total of 400 students as the subjects of this study from fisheries high schools located in Busan, Incheon, Gyeongbuk, Chungbuk and Jeonnam and general high schools located in Busan, Gyeonggi and Jeonnam. The findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, when analyzing the reality of fisheries Maritime and general high school students' processed food intake, in terms of the gender difference, the female students indicated a higher processed food intake frequency than the male students and in terms of the school types, the fisheries Maritime and general high school students showed an almost similar processed food intake frequency. Second, seeing that most female and male students were aware that the food additives were unsafe substances. Third, when analyzing the reality of nutrition education, there were more students who had not received a nutrition education than the students who had received a nutrition education.

  • The aims of this study were to analyze the coastal Fisherman's awareness for the Fisheries and Maritime Job Skills. Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were defined as the abilities that include the essential knowledge, skills, attitude, and experiences required for the workforce on the fisheries and maritime job condition. This research collected preliminary data from 65 coastal fishermen. Data were analyzed to obtain content validity analysis. The results of the study were as follows; First, Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were divided into 6 elements in coastal fisheries. Second, Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were consisted of basic skills, marine vocational ethics, marine information capacity, marine elementary knowledge, marine safety management skill and marine consciousness. Third, CVR proves that the value analyzed in the study was validation. In consequence, the study suggested that Fisheries & Maritime key competencies were different in accordance with work environment.

  • Today the educational authorities selected 38 Meister High Schools which are based on industry demand out of 691 high schools nationwide to make the vocational high schools do their original purposes and to innovate vocation education. The purposes of this study are to analyze the relationship between the school environment and career maturity and the school adjustment resilience and, based on the results, to suggest improvement plans to improve business environment for the maritime Meister High Schools. To analyze the influence of the school environment and students' career maturity on their school adjustment resilience, the researcher used the teachers's professionalism, school facilities, students' entrance motivation, career guidance depending on the individual and the school meal quality as the school environment factors of the independent factors. As dependent factors, the researcher selected school environment, teachers, class preparation of the individual, level of school life such as an attitude level and school rule observance, and peer relation.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze how teaching behavior styles of fisheries & maritime high school teacher on students' satisfaction in major subject classes. A survey was conducted for high school students from fisheries & maritime high school. The results were as followed. First, there is a statistically significant correlation between fisheries & maritime high school teacher's teaching behavior styles and student's classes satisfaction. In other words, teaching behavior styles should be different according to the individual differences of students' learning. Second, fisheries & maritime high school teacher's teaching behavior styles has some significant influence on student's classes satisfaction. Diversity Teaching behaviors had a statistically significant effect on content satisfaction. Interaction teaching behavior, diversity teaching behavior style, and individualized teaching behavior style had a statistically significant effect on method satisfaction. For the evaluation satisfaction, there was a significant statistically significant effect of clarity on teaching behavior styles and diversity teaching behavior type. It is necessary to improve the content satisfaction of the students through the application of the teaching method considering the difference of understanding of the contents of each student.
