The study of the fine grained classification of images continues to develop, but the study of object recognition for animals with polymorphic properties is proceeding slowly. Using only pet images corresponding to dogs and cats, this paper aims to compare methods using image processing and methods using deep learning among methods of classifying species of animals, which are fine grained classifications. In this paper, Grab-cut algorithm is used for object segmentation by method using image processing, and method using Fisher Vector for image encoding is proposed. Other methods used deep learning, which has achieved good results in various fields through machine learning, and among them, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), which showed outstanding performance in image recognition, and Tensorflow, an open-source-based deep learning framework provided by Google. For each method proposed, 37 kinds of pet images, a total of 7,390 pages, were tested to verify and compare their effects.

This paper presents the modified LVQ method for performance improvement of pattern classification. The proposed method uses the skewness of probability distribution between the input vectors and the reference vectors. During training, the reference vectors are closest to the input vectors using the probabilistic distribution of the input vectors, and they are positioned to approximate the decision surfaces of the theoretical Bayes classifier. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we performed experiments on the Gaussian distribution data set, and the Fisher's IRIS data set. The experimental results show that the proposed method considerably improves on the performance of the LVQ1, LVQ2, and GLVQ.

In this paper, we propose a intelligent system to improve the accuracy of pattern recognition. The proposed intelligent system consist in SOFM, LVQ and FCM algorithm. We are confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed intelligent system through the several experiments that classify Fisher's Iris data and face image data that offered by ORL of Cambridge Univ. and EMG data. As the results of experiments, the proposed intelligent system has better accuracy of pattern recognition than general LVQ.

In this paper, we propose novel feature extraction algorithm for classification of seabed sediment. In previous researches, acoustic reflection coefficient has been used to classify seabed sediments, which is constant in terms of frequency. However, attenuation of seabed sediment is a function of frequency and is highly influenced by sediment types in general. Hence, we developed a feature vector by using attenuation variation with respect to frequency. The attenuation variation is obtained by using reflected signal from the second sediment layer, which is generated by broadband chirp. The proposed feature vector has advantage in number of dimensions to classify the seabed sediment over the classical scalar feature (reflection coefficient). To compare the proposed feature with the classical scalar feature, dimension of proposed feature vector is reduced by using linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Synthesised acoustic amplitudes reflected by seabed sediments are generated by using Biot model and the performance of proposed feature is evaluated by using Fisher scoring and classification accuracy computed by maximum likelihood decision (MLD). As a result, the proposed feature shows higher discrimination performance and more robustness against measurement errors than that of classical feature.

The effective feature extraction method for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) detection is proposed and verified in this paper. The UAV engine sound is harmonic complex tone whose frequency ratio is integer and its variation is continuous in time. Using these characteristic, we propose the feature vector composed of a mean and standard deviation of difference value between fundamental frequency with 1st overtone as well as mean variation of their frequency. It was revealed by simulation that the suggested feature vector has excellent discrimination in target signal identification from various interfering signals including frequency variation with time. By comparing Fisher scores, three features based on frequency show outstanding discrimination of measured UAV signals with low signal to noise ratio (SNR). Detection performance with simulated interference signal is compared by MFCC by using ELM classifier and the suggested feature vector shows 37.6% of performance improvement As the SNR increases with time, the proposed feature can detect the target signal ahead of MFCC that needs 4.5 dB higher signal power to detect the target.

In an effort to enhance the quality of feature vector classification and thereby reduce the recognition error rate for the speaker-independent speech recognition, we study the effect of spectral tilt on the Fourier magnitude spectrum en route to the extraction of MFCC. The effect of FIR filtering on the speech signal on the speech recognition is also investigated in parallel. Evaluation of the proposed methods are performed by two independent ways of the Fisher discriminant objective function and speech recognition test by hidden Markov model with fuzzy vector quantization. From the experiments, the recognition error rate is found to show about 10% relative improvements over the conventional method by an appropriate choice of the tilt factor.
The paper proposes a novel framework for 3D face verification using dimensionality reduction based on highly distinctive local features in the presence of illumination and expression variations. The histograms of efficient local descriptors are used to represent distinctively the facial images. For this purpose, different local descriptors are evaluated, Local Binary Patterns (LBP), Three-Patch Local Binary Patterns (TPLBP), Four-Patch Local Binary Patterns (FPLBP), Binarized Statistical Image Features (BSIF) and Local Phase Quantization (LPQ). Furthermore, experiments on the combinations of the four local descriptors at feature level using simply histograms concatenation are provided. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated with different dimensionality reduction algorithms: Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Orthogonal Locality Preserving Projection (OLPP) and the combined PCA+EFM (Enhanced Fisher linear discriminate Model). Finally, multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used as a classifier to carry out the verification between imposters and customers. The proposed method has been tested on CASIA-3D face database and the experimental results show that our method achieves a high verification performance.
Objectives : This study aims to analyze the co-occurrence of pathological symptoms and corresponding acupoints as documented by the comprehensive acupuncture and moxibustion records in the classical texts of Far East traditional medicine as an aid to a more efficient understanding of the tacit treatment principles of ancient physicians. Methods : The Classic of Nourishing Life with Acupuncture and Moxibustion(Zhenjiu Zisheng Jing; hereinafter ZZJ) was selected as the primary reference book for the analysis. The pathology-acupoint co-occurrence analysis was performed by applying 4 values of vector space measures(weighted Euclidean distance, Euclidean distance, $Cram\acute{e}r^{\prime}s$ V and Canberra distance), which measure the distance between the observed and expected co-occurrence counts, and 3 values of probabilistic measures(association strength, Fisher's exact test and Jaccard similarity), which measure the probability of observed co-occurrences. Results : The treatment records contained in ZZJ were preprocessed, which yielded 4162 pathology-acupoint sets. Co-occurrence was performed applying 7 different analysis variables, followed by a prediction simulation. The prediction simulation results revealed the Weighted Euclidean distance had the highest prediction rate with 24.32%, followed by Canberra distance(23.14%) and association strength(21.29%). Conclusions : The weighted Euclidean distance among the vector space measures and the association strength among the probabilistic measures were verified to be the most efficient analysis methods in analyzing the correlation between acupoints and pathologies found in the classical medical texts.

This paper proposes a novel face recognition algorithm to recognize human face robustly under various conditions, such as changes of pose, illumination, and expression, etc. at indoor environments. A conventional automatic face recognition system consists of the detection and the recognition part. Generally, the detection part is dominant over the other part in the estimating whole recognition rate. So, in this paper, we suggest the view-specific eigenface method as preprocessor to estimate various poses of the face in the input image. Then, we apply the Enhanced FLD Models (EFM) to the result of it, twice. Because, the EFM recognizes human face, and reduces the error of standardization effectively. To deal with view-varying problem, we build one basis vector set for each view individually. Finally, the dimensionalities of ...
