  • Bionomics of diplopodes was studid near chongyongchi in the chiri mountains from sept. 1990 to dec. 1991 by surveying 10 sample sites at 12 occasions. During this period 13 species of diplopodes from 11 genera, 8 families, and 6 orders were collected. Species were more diversed under quercus mongolica followed by quercus serrata and pinus densiflora sp. epenerchodus koreanus bifidus, and e. k. koreanus were found in all sample sites and these 6 species have been reported to be distributed throughout south korea. yamasinaium sp., riukiaria semicirculalis, parafontaria koreanus, and sicotanus eurygaster were found only under quercus mongolica community and postulated to be related to diet meanwhile other enviromental factors such as temperature, soil ph, and altitude should be taken into consideration. Species diversity index was higher at altitude 700m followed by at 900m, 1, 000m, 800m, 600m, 500m, 1, 100m, 400m, 300m, and 1, 200m in discending order likely due to the enviromental factors such as climatic and edaphic affects, disturbance by human, and degree of floral diversity. Species similarity index was highest 0.78 between altitude 500m and 600m sample sites could be grouped into 3, namely first 300m, 400m, second 500m, 600m, 700m, 1, 000m, 800m, 900m, and third 1, 100m, 1, 200m.

  • This paper considers a single machine rescheduling problem whose original (efficiency related) objective is minimizing makespan. We assume that disruptions such as order cancelations and newly arrived orders occur after the initial scheduling, and we reschedule this disrupted schedule with the objective of minimizing a disruption related objective while preserving the original objective. The disruption related objective measures the impact of the disruptions as difference of completion times in the remaining (uncanceled) jobs before and after the disruptions. The artificial due dates for the remaining jobs are set to completion times in the original schedule while newly arrived jobs do not have due dates. Then, the objective of the rescheduling is minimizing the maximum earliness without tardiness. In order to preserve the optimality of the original objective, we assume that no-idle time and no tardiness are allowed while rescheduling. We first define this new problem and prove that the general version of the problem is unary NP-complete. Then, we develop three simple but intuitive heuristics. For each of the three heuristics, we find a tight bound on the measure called modified z-approximation ratio. The best theoretical bound is found to be 0.5 - ${\varepsilon}$ for some ${\varepsilon}$ > 0, and it implies that the solution value of the best heuristic is at most around a half of the worst possible solution value. Finally, we empirically evaluate the heuristics and demonstrate that the two best heuristics perform much better than the other one.

  • The semiconductor industry is one of those in which the most intricate processes are involved and there are many critical factors that are controlled with precision in those processes. Naturally production scheduling in the semiconductor industry is also very complex and studied by the industry and academia for many years; however, still there are many issues left unclear in the problem. This paper proposes an multi-objective optimization-based scheduling method for semiconductor fabrication(fab). Two main objectives are throughput maximization and meeting target production quantities. The first objective aims to reduce production cost, especially the fixed cost incurred by a large investment constructing a new fab facility. The other is meeting customer orders on time and also helps a fab maintain stable throughput through controlled WIP balancing in the long run. The paper shows a trade-off structure between the two objectives through experimental studies, which provides industrial practitioners with useful references.

  • An important goal of computational wind engineering is to impact the design process with simulations of flow around buildings and bridges. One challenging aspect of this goal is to solve the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations accurately. For the unsteady computations, an adaptive finite element technique may reduce the computer time and storage. The preliminary application of a p-version as well as an h-version adaptive technique to computational wind engineering has been reported in previous paper. The details on the implementation of p-adaptive technique will be discussed in this paper. In this technique, two posteriori error estimations, which are based on the velocity and vorticity, are first presented. Then, the polynomial order of the interpolation function is increased continuously element by element until the estimated error is less than the accepted. The second through sixth orders of hierarchical functions are used as the interpolation polynomials. Unequal order interpolations are used for velocity and pressure. Using the flow around a circular cylinder with Reynolds number of 1000 the two error estimators are compared. The result show that the estimated error based on the velocity is lower than that based on the vorticity.

  • In this paper, first, the equations of motion for a rectangular isotropic plate have been derived. This derivation is based on the Von Karmann theory and the effects of shear deformation have been considered. Introducing an Airy stress function, the equations of motion have been transformed to a nonlinear coupled equation. Using Galerkin method, this equation has been separated into position and time functions. By means of the dimensional analysis, it is shown that the orders of magnitude for nonlinear terms are small with respect to linear terms. The Multiple Scales Method has been applied to the equation of motion in the forced vibration and free vibration cases and closed-form relations for the nonlinear natural frequencies, displacement and frequency response of the plate have been derived. The obtained results in comparison with numerical methods are in good agreements. Using the obtained relation, the effects of initial displacement, thickness and dimensions of the plate on the nonlinear natural frequencies and displacements have been investigated. These results are valid for a special range of the ratio of thickness to dimensions of the plate, which is a characteristic of the Multiple Scales Method. In the forced vibration case, the frequency response equation for the primary resonance condition is calculated and the effects of various parameters on the frequency response of system have been studied.

  • This paper highlights a study undertaken on the free vibration of a precast steel-concrete composite slab panel for track support. The steel-concrete composite slab track is an evolvement from the slab track, a form of ballastless track which is becoming increasingly attractive to asset owners as they seek to reduce lifecycle costs and deal with increasing rail traffic speeds. The slender nature of the slab panel due to its reduced depth of construction makes it susceptible to vibration problems. The aim of the study is driven by the need to address the limited research available to date on the dynamic behaviour of steel-concrete composite slab panels for track support. Free vibration analysis of the track slab has been carried out using ABAQUS. Both eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes have been extracted using the Lanczos method. The fundamental natural frequencies of the slab panel have been identified together with corresponding mode shapes. To investigate the sensitivity of the natural frequencies and mode shapes, parametric studies have been established, considering concrete strength and mass and steel's modulus of elasticity. This study is the world first to observe crossover phenomena that result in the inversion of the natural orders without interaction. It also reveals that replacement of the steel with aluminium or carbon fibre sheeting can only marginally reduce the natural frequencies of the slab panel.

  • In this paper, we derive the outage probability for M-ary phase shifting keying (MPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) burst transmission (BT) of adaptive decode-and-forward (ADF) cooperative relay systems over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. Within a burst, there are pilot symbols and data symbols. Pilot symbols are used for channel estimation schemes and each relay node's transmission mode selection schemes. At first, we focus on ADF relay systems in which the probability density function (PDF) is derived on the basis of error events at relay nodes corresponding to channel estimation errors. Next, the average outage probability is derived as an approximate expression for an arbitrary link signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for different modulation orders. Its accuracy is demonstrated by comparison with simulation results. Further, it is confirmed that BT-ADF relay systems with pilot symbol based channel estimation schemes enables to select correctly decoded relay nodes without additional signaling between relay nodes and the destination node, and it is verified that the ideal performance is achieved with small SNR loss.

  • This paper considers an integrated decision for scheduling and outsourcing(or, subcontracting) of a finite number of jobs(or, orders) in a time-sensitive make-to-order manufacturing environment. The jobs can be either processed in a parallel in-house facilities or outsourced to subcontractors. We should determine which jobs should be processed in-house and which jobs should be outsourced. And, we should determine the schedule for the jobs to be processed in-house. If a job is determined to be processed in-house, then the scheduling cost(the completion time of the Job) is imposed. Otherwise(if the job should be outsourced), then an additional outsourcing cost is imposed. The objective is to minimize the linear combination of scheduling and outsourcing costs under a budget constraint for the total available outsourcing cost. In the problem analysis, we first characterize some solution properties and then derive dynamic programming and branch-and- bound algorithms. An efficient heuristic is also developed. The performances of the proposed algorithms are evaluated through various numerical experiments.

  • This study investigated the construction and operation status of sewer pipes and water-purifier tanks near densely populated areas like large apartment complexes, in order to find out cause for offensive orders. The study results revealed that the main cause arose from the water-purifier tank and public sewer pipes near ordinary residential areas. First, in case of independent water-purifier tanks, the air is forced into the rotten part of large tanks nearby which should be operated in an anaerobic state, so that the tank changes into an aerobic state, or dirty water, which is returned during the sludge return process, falls on the top of the rotten tank, preventing scum from forming within the tank. Such problems cause incompletely purified water in the purifier tank to be discharged, which in turn results in filthy water. Second, in case of public sewer pipes, deteriorated or aging pipes, or the mixture of rain water and dirty water by mixing up combined and separated sewers system can cause foul odors in residential areas. Therefore, offensive odors in residential areas can be radically reduced through the appropriate construction and management of facilities including water-purifier tanks. As well, if more separate sewers are installed as part of an improvement project for public sewer pipes, complaints about foul smell can be minimized.

  • In order to clearify the microflora of the lower course of the Han River and the effect of the marine water on the Han River, the study was carried out at Paldang, Kwangjang, Noryangjin, and Haengju for 4 months (from May till September in 1965). The results obtained are as follows: 1) Water temperature, transparency, light intensity, pH, silicate, and salinity were determined as environmental conditions. 2) Samples collected from 4 stations were identified and classified by Engler's classification system. It resulted in 4 Phyla, 3 Classes, 13 Orders, 25 Families, 61 Genera, 155 Species, and 16 Varieties. The total numbers of phytoplanktons identified are 171. Of the number, 106 species and 12 varieties were recorded in this paper for the first time. 3) A comparative observation on the distribution of marine phytoplanktons and salinity in the Han River showed a fact that the Han River was biologically affected in the middle portion between Noryangjin and Haengju by marine water. Furthermore, the salinity determined at Haengjuduring a day(at high tide, September 26, 1995) supported the above fact. 4) Four species among the identified species are saprobic planktons and it is regarded as the forms derived from Chunggyechon.
