  • The teaching method of colleges and universities is traditionally lectures then professors has described orally in class and students has listened to accompanying with papers, mid-terms, and final exams. Jon Bergmann and Aaron Sams have developed new way of teaching called flipped learning; Classwork at home and homework in class. By adapting the method, this paper researched how efficient it is and what factors tutors should consider for better results. Specifically this research examined the flipped learning applying to basic 3D graphics class of J University in Korea and students answered surveys and took a couple of tests. Since the most students of the class did not have any background of 3D graphics, it was the first time for them to work with 3 dimensional space coordinate system. As a result, the research showed positive side of flipped learning like increasing peers' interest to the class and positive attitude about video lectures watched before coming to class.

  • Since 1970s' many hospitals have been built due to the economic growth and change of social policy in Korea. But, we had no sufficient data and design guidelines of planning and designing to get good design solutions. From the first paper on the healthcare architecture issued in 1974, many researches have been performed. Researches could be one of the efforts to solve the problems and satisfy the needs of those periods. Researches could reflect the characteristics of healthcare architecture of those periods. So in this paper 267 papers issued between 1974-2009 were analyzed to get the characteristics patterns of research periodically. This paper aims to provide a basic data for studying of history of healthcare architecture in Korea.

  • From the Korean War in 1950 to the end of the 1960s, the traditional feudal residue which had been prevalent in our society was disrupted and suddenly replaced with modem western order. Family ethics were also to be changed, so that western family ethics replaced those of confucian ones. This is part of a study that examines the flow of family ethics from ancient families to modem families to find out the stem of Korean family ethics. Since there are almost no existing studies that have dealt this topic, newspaper, magazine and also interviews with the people of thus era were very helpful to this study along with the related books and papers. On account of limited space, this study focused in the first place on husband-wife ethics and parent-child ethics among family ethics.

  • In some previous papers the author extended two algorithms proposed by Z. Kovarik for approximate orthogonalization of a finite set of linearly independent vectors from a Hibert space, to the case when the vectors are rows (not necessary linearly independent) of an arbitrary rectangular matrix. In this paper we describe combinations between these two methods and the classical Kaczmarz’s iteration. We prove that, in the case of a consistent least-squares problem, the new algorithms so obtained converge ti any of its solutions (depending on the initial approximation). The numerical experiments described in the last section of the paper on a problem obtained after the discretization of a first kind integral equation ilustrate the fast convergence of the new algorithms. • This paper is the first of companion papers, which investigate port-masking effects on lean misfire limit. Port-masking was applied to commercial SOHC 3-valve and DOHC 4-valve engine by inserting masking plates between manifold and port. To induce various conditions of stratification, six types of masking plates were applied. The masking plates were placed in the upstream of injector to prevent wall wetting and two ports were not separated to permit both fuel and air entering through masked port. The results were compared with those by conventional port throttling. The results show that lean misfire limit mainly depends on masking direction, that is, high lean misfire limit is achieved when the port near the spark plug is masked. The mechanism of stratification by masking is different from axial stratification by port throttling. In this case, the rich mixture entering through masked port plays a very important role in the stratification process.

  • Many papers have used a two-stage approach of first calculating DEA efficiency scores and then seeking to correlate these scores with various environmental variables. Most of the studies have not checked whether such a two-stage approach is statistically valid for identifying significant environmental variables. Recently Simar and Wilson (2007) (SW) introduce a sensible data generating process and bootstrap procedure based on truncated regression for the two-stage approach. Banker and Natarajan (2008) (BN) provide a statistical foundation for the two-stage approach comprising a DEA followed by an ordinary least squares or maximum likelihood estimation. Researchers have to identify an approach suitable for their research circumstances in terms of properties, merits, demerits, and robustness to plausible departures from its chosen data generating process. We summarize the foundations and properties of the two-stage procedures suggested by SW and BN. And we discuss merits and demerits of those procedures. Also using Monte Carlo simulation we assess their relative performance under several misspecified settings.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the methods of preservation for paper, microfilm, digital media. First of all, for acidic papers produced in 19~20 centuries, this study evaluates and analyses deterioration and factors causing deterioration. For book, also, environmental condition for preservation, and a preservation mechanism through acid-free procedure were suggested. Second for microfilm, it emphasized physical and chemical properties, oxidised substance during developing film, materials related to preservation. Third, for digital storages, storage conditions and needs, such as life-cycle and capacity were introduced.

  • This paper proposes an approach for visualizing research trends using theme maps and extra information. The proposed algorithm includes the following steps. First, text mining is used to construct a vector space of keywords. Second, correspondence analysis is employed to reduce high-dimensionality and to express relationships between documents and keywords. Third, kernel density estimation is applied in order to generate three-dimensional data that can show the concentration of the set of documents. Fourth, a cartographical concept is adapted for visualizing research trends. Finally, relative vitalization information is provided for more accurate research trend analysis. The algorithm of the proposed approach is tested using papers about Traditional Korean Medicine.

  • Unlike the traditional view, it is not mysterious about how G. Mendel chose the seven characters of the pea, Pisum sativum, that he studied. He first chose the pea that met three conditions he set up and repeated experiments for two years. Apparently, he knew that those characters were controlled by countable elements. Then, he derived the prediction on the basis of his idea about the elements, and selected the seven characters that satisfied the prediction. He knew "no prediction no science". In population genetics the Hardy-Weinberg principle is well known and cited in many papers and books. However, Mendel already derived the same principle in his paper, because he was acquainted also with physics and mathematics. Actually, the principle was trivial when they derived, but not at all when Mendel did. It is also well known that Mendel's laws were forgotten and rediscovered at the term of the 19th century. That may not be true either. His laws were internationally well known before the rediscovery. In fact, the 1881-year version of the Encyclopedia Britannica contains his laws.

  • The idea to be changed first among the general ideas of mathematics is that, from the standpoint of teachers, one-sided teaching is efficient due to the progress of classwork of excessive quantity, and, from the standpoint of students, they say they gave up mathematics publicly feeling uneasiness in every class because of the deficiency of previous learning and interest, and they think all problems are due to the educational system, neglecting their studies, not participating actively in lessons. Therefore this study is, after giving learning points and problem papers of which the degree of difficulty differs to the groups of students divided into the advanced, intermediate, and elementary by personal abilities of learning and concerns, tried out to remove uniformity and integrity of lessons through solving the problems students can, to convert lessons to the learner-oriented that learners take part in voluntarily through discussing, solving the problems, and correcting the errors of them by group-cooperative actions, for the students to realize that they can solve everything only by their own endeavors.
