  • Major pelvic ganglia (MPG) neurons are classified into sympathetic and parasympathetic neurons according to the electrophysiological properties; membrane capacitance (Cm), expression of T-type $Ca^{2+}$ channels, and the firing patterns during depolarization. In the present study, function and molecular expression of ATP-sensitive $K^+\;(K_{ATP})$ channels was investigated in MPG neurons of male rats. Only in parasympathetic MPG neurons showing phasic firing patterns, hyperpolarizing changes were elicited by the application of diazoxide, an activator of $K_{ATP}$ channels. Glibenclamide $(10{\mu}M),$ a $K_{ATP}$ channel blocker, completely abolished the diazoxide-induced hyperpolarization. Diazoxide increased inward currents at high $K^+$ (90 mM) external solution, which was also blocked by glibenclamide. The metabolic inhibition by the treatment with mitochondrial respiratory chain inhibitors (rotenone and antimycin) hyperpolarized the resting membrane potential of parasympathetic neurons, which was not observed in sympathetic neurons. The hyperpolarizing response to metabolic inhibition was partially blocked by glibenclamide. RT-PCR analysis revealed that MPG neurons mainly expressed the $K_{ATP}$ channel subunits of Kir6.2 and SUR1. Our results suggest that MPG neurons have $K_{ATP}$ channels, mainly formed by Kir6.2 and SUR1, with phenotype-specificity, and that the conductance through this channel in parasympathetic neurons may contribute to the changes in excitability during hypoxia and/or metabolic inhibition.

  • The axial-injection end-burning hybrid rocket proposed twenty years ago by the authors recently recaptured the attention of researchers for its virtues such as no ${\zeta}$ (oxidizer to fuel mass ratio) shift during firing and good throttling characteristics. This paper is the first report verifying these virtues using a laboratory scale motor. There are several requirements for realizing this type of hybrid rocket: 1) high fuel filling rate for obtaining an optimal ${\zeta}$; 2) small port intervals for increasing port merging rate; 3) ports arrayed across the entire fuel section. Because these requirements could not be satisfied by common manufacturing methods, no previous researchers have conducted experiments with this kind of hybrid rocket. Recent advances in high accuracy 3D printing now allow for fuel to be produced that meets these three requirements. The fuel grains used in this study were produced by a high precision light polymerized 3D printer. Each grain consisted of an array of 0.3 mm diameter ports for a fuel filling rate of 98% .The authors conducted several firing tests with various oxidizer mass flow rates and chamber pressures, and analysed the results, including ${\zeta}$ history, using a new reconstruction technique. The results show that ${\zeta}$ remains almost constant throughout tests of varying oxidizer mass flow rates, and that regression rate in the axial direction is a nearly linear function of chamber pressure with a pressure exponent of 0.996.

  • A number of process problems should be solved in the multi-layered ceramic devices such as EMI filter. In particular, it is essential to control the sintering shrinkage in co-firing of different materials for obtaining defect-free samples such as crack, camber, and delamination which usually occur near the surface and interface. We studied the effect of the powder properties of ferrite on the co-firing behavior of green ceramic layers composed of ferrite and varistor. Three kind of ferrite powder samples as a function of milling time (24, 48, and 72 hr) were prepared. Varistor and ferrite ceramic green sheet were made by means of doctor blade process using slurry (ceramic powder and binder solution). Here, slurry was prepared by mixing 55 wt% powder with 45wt% binder solution. Varistor and ferrite green sheets were laminated at $80 kg/cm^2$, and co-fired at $900^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. We obtained the camber-free and co-fired ferrite/varistor layer structure by controlling the milling time and sintering temperature.

  • The purpose of this study were to interpret making characteristics and clay sources for Proto-Three Kingdoms period potteries which were excavated from Bakjimeure site in Tangjeong, Asan, Korea, on the basis of shape types. The pottery samples of the studied included deep bowl pottery, cylinder shaped pottery, duck shaped pottery and rounded based jar with short neck. And the last jar was dominant among them. This is supported in nearby Yongduri Jinter site, Galmaeri site and Baekseokdong site. They vary in terms of color of clay, absorption ratio and mineral classification. Based on the fact that their absorption ratio range was 4.50 to 25.19% and firing temperature range was 850 to $1,150^{\circ}C$, they were thought to be widely used. The equivalence of cylinder shaped pottery, duck shaped pottery and deep bowl pottery was high in terms of material characteristics and their firing temperature range was 850 to $950^{\circ}C$. However, the deep bowl pottery, compared to other pottery shapes, contained great amount of coarse grained quartz and feldspar, and was different from others in terms of function. For soil sample collected from relative plains (area 3) in the southernmost part of the site, their mineralogical and geochemical characteristics were the most similar to those of the potteries excavated from the Bakjimeure site and even most of the potteries collected from different sites.

  • The results of combustion performance test of fuel-rich gas generator(GG) using LOx and kerosene as propellant at design and off-design point are described. The parameters used in this analysis are the average exit temperature($T_{GG}$) and the characteristic velocity($C^{\ast}$). The average gas temperature at the exit of gas generator is found to be a function of propellant O/F ratio. For the gas generator having residence time of 4msec or more, the effect of flame residence time and combustion chamber pressure on the exit temperature is not significant. The exit characteristic velocity is found to be linearly proportional to the gas temperature at the exit of gas generator.

  • This paper shows that you can achieve high quality N+ emitter layers using a screen printable phosphorous diffusion paste and firing in an infrared belt furnace. Spreading resistance measurement from a beveled sample is used to measure carrier concentration as a function of depth for different phosphorous concentrations. Contours of estimated sheet resistance are shown for different processing conditions. This paper describes newly developed low cost phosphorous pastes. It shows the characterization of the newly developed phosphorous paste (DP99-038). This low cost pastes can easily be printed and make 16% efficiency.

  • The detection of neural spike activity is a technical challenge that is very important for studying many types of brain function. On temporal recordings of firing events or interspike interval series of neural signal, spike pattern correspond to action will be repeated in the presence of background noise and they need to be detected to develop higher applications. We will introduce new method to find these patterns in raw multitrial data and is tested on surrogate data sets with the main target to get meaningful analysis of electrophysiological data from microelectrode arrays (MEA).

  • Microstructure developments of $RuO_2$ based thick film resistors during firing as a function of glass viscosity were analytically quantified and its effect on the electrical property was investigated. The microstructure development was retarded as the viscosity of glass was increased. It was found that the viscosity range for each stage of microstructure development are as follows ; $7500-10^5Pa{\cdot}s$ for the glass sintering, $2000-7500Pa{\cdot}s$ for the glass island formation, $700-2000Pa{\cdot}s$ for the glass spreading, and $50-700Pa{\cdot}s$ for the infiltration. The sheet resistivity decreased as the viscosity of glass in the resistor film increased due to the higher chance of sintering for the conductive particles with the higher viscosity of the glass.

  • The main drawback of parallel type active power filters (APFs) is the large capacity required for harmonic compensation. This paper evaluates the APF capacity requirement for harmonic/reactive power compensation for thyristor converter load. Theoretically achievable maximum power factor under partial load is evaluated. it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced by deliberately limiting the peak current, while maintaining the filtering performance with an acceptable total harmonic current level. the minimum capacity requirement of APF with current limiting is evaluated as a function of the firing angle of thyristor converter and short circuit ratio(SCR).
