  • The aim of the study intends to investigate the recognition of fire safety of traditional market employee in Masan city and to provide the base data for the fire safety. The results of the study are as follows. The traditional market employee have high interest in fire safety and recognize that the possibility of fire is high in market. The traditional market employee of 46.0% takes fire safety education and preferred self-government merchant association in market as education place. This study shows that the traditional market employee of 41.5% recognize a fire escape route. In order to prevent the fire of traditional market, the strong activity of market fire staff and the periodic fire inspection of fire department are recommended.

  • Steel columns used in steel buildings are inclined to lose their strength when exposed to severe fire conditions, so fire resistance is required in most countries to protect against loss of life and building collapses. In Korea, the fire resistance of columns can be obtained by the fire test defined in KS F 2257-1, 7. The fire resistance of a steel column should be evaluated in terms of the column's conditions, such as various section types (H-section, hollow-section), the column's length and boundary conditions, and whether it is fixed or hinged. However, fire testing of steel columns is usually conducted on one standard-sized H-section over 3,000 mm, and the result is used as the column's fire resistance. This is not a reasonable way to ensure that a building can withstand fire conditions. In this study, to evaluate the possibility of calculating the fire resistance of steel columns with material properties of high tensile strength of SS 400, both load-bearing fire tests and calculation of steel temperatures were carried out. The results of temperature calculation were very similar to those obtained by fire test.

  • The goal of fire prevention research is to eliminate fires as a cause of fatal accidents and there are two main areas of research. One is to prevent flame propagation during in-flight and it addresses fire hazards. The other is to minimize the possibility of flame penetration or fuselage burn-through and it aims toward post-crash survival include crash protection, emergency evacuation and post-evacuation survival. Civil aviation authorities world-wide are trying to identify threats and measure performance for fire prevention. The results of research are standardized and given as general directions of test methods. This paper has prepared to study and present the means of compliance to the fire prevention requirements and applicable test methods.

  • The physical performance of high-strength concrete deteriorates when exposed to high temperatures such as fire. In particular, in the case of ultra-high-strength concrete, there is a high possibility of explosion due to internal water pressure and thermal expansion due to the tight internal structure. In this paper, a fire resistance certification test was conducted for field application of ultra-high-strength fire-resistant concrete, and the fire resistance performance (temperature rise of main rebar) was compared according to the structural concrete cover thickness. As a result, when the covering thickness was 40 mm, three structures did not meet the certification standards, and when the covering thickness was 50 mm, all structures met the fire resistance certification standards.

  • Short circuit and ground fault account for the primary causes of electrical fires. In this research, real-scale experiments were conducted to assess the possibility of electrical fires due to these causes. The experiment conditions were identical with an actual fire accident, in which the power cable was supported by an iron fence. The purposes of this research are to investigate the short circuit caused by wire cutting, the conductivity of the iron fence depending on its coating conditions, and the ground fault of one wire or two wires in an effort to reconstruct the fire accident. The test results show that, owing to the instant operation of circuit breaker in the moment of short circuit or ground fault, the generated ignition energy is far less than necessary to start an ignition. Therefore it is concluded that electrical fire is highly unlikely if the electric system is protected by a circuit breaker with normal functions.

  • This paper is aimed to develop an electrical fire detection system (EFDS) which can analyze the possibility of electrical fire for overcurrent, leakage current and arc signals of panel board in traditional market shop. The EFDS adopted fuzzy logic and precursory data for overcurrent, leakage current and arc signals to evaluate the possibility of electrical fire. The signals are obtained directly from panel board in traditional market shops and fuzzy membership function is obtained from experiment, simulation, expert's advice. The overcurrent data is acquired by thermal data of normal and abnormal states (partial disconnection) on the insulated electrical wire, in accordance with the increase of the current signal, The leakage current data is obtained under various environments. The arc signal is acquisited by waveforms of instantaneous value in time domain and frequency band in frequency domain. The Fuzzy algorithm for DB of EFDS consists of fuzzification, inference engine by Mamdani's method and defuzzification by center of gravity method. In order to verify the performance and reliability of EFDS, it was applied to Jeon-Ju traditional market shops (90 shops) in Korea. Results show that EFDS in this paper is useful in alarming the fire case, which will prevent severe damage to human beings and properties, and reduce the electrical fires in a vulnerable area of electrical disaster.

  • The pipes using in water-based fire protection systems are used steel pipes for ordinary piping, carbon steel pipes for pressure service, copper and copper alloy seamless pipes and tubes, etc. By last buildings of high-rising, complexity, in fire protection systems, the corrosion resistance, easy construction, lightweight and cost-effective use of the pipes is being considered. Among the pipes, the possibility of used for fire protection system being used in the existing copper pipe of material properties, strength, corrosion resistance, heat resistance through and compare the performance was evaluated. As a result of that assessment light gauge stainless steel pipes for ordinary piping (KS D 3595) at a water pressure of less than 1.2 MPa can be used in sufficient physical properties, strength, corrosion resistance, heat resistance and have been observed.
