Combustion property comparison of rubber foam insulator by the variation of the glass fiber cross-Al foil thickness (Glass fiber cross-Al foil 차단막 두께에 따른 고무발포단열재 연소특성)

  • Insulator is being used for material of railroad vehicles as a barrier of heat and noise. But it shows various fire properties in case of fire. In this study, we compared smoke density(Ds) values of rubber foams with the different thickness of glass fiber cross-Al foil according to the standard of ASTM E 662. The result showed that the insulator and barrier property played an important role in decreasing the value of smoke density

Effectiveness of BIM-based Human Behavior Simulation on Architectural Design Education -Focused on Exploration and Evaluation of Barrier-Free and Fire Evacuation Performances- (BIM 기반의 인간행동 시뮬레이션이 건축설계교육에 미치는 효과에 관한 연구 -무장애와 안전 및 피난설계의 성능탐구와 평가를 중심으로-)

  • While the importance of barrier-free and fire evacuation design is highlighted in architectural design education, systemic analysis, and examination on such performances are still challenging due to methodological lacks. The present study investigates the effectiveness of BIM-based human behavior simulation for architecture major students' analytical examinations to promote barrier-free and fire evacuation performances. To achieve such an aim, quasi-experiments were conducted, which compare 50 students' analysis and examination scores according to the use and non-use of the simulation, and the data were collected via participants' survey and interview. As a result, T-Test and MANOVA analyses indicate that, compared with its non-use counterpart, the use of human behavior simulation better facilitates the students' (1) examination of the physical properties and dimensions for the disabled's accessibility and evacuation, (2) understanding of the bodily capacity and handicap of the disabled, (3) examination on the spatial layouts and locations of exits, (4) understanding on evacuees' urgent behaviors, and (5) responsibility as an architect. Based on previous studies, the reasons of statistical results are interpreted as the explicit observation and analytical measures of multiple numbers of virtual-evacuees and direct-experience from body range of the disabled responding to the populated occupants as what they face in authentic reality.

  • 원자력발전소 화재방호 규정이 제정되기 이전에 설계되어 방화벽 관통부 내화성능 인증자료가 미흡하였던 국내 일부 가동원전들은 최근 성능인증이 완료되었거나 진행 중이다. 성능인증이 완료된 방화벽 관통부는 발전소 운영기간 동안 요구성능이 유지되도록 적합한 관리방안이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 성능인증이 완료된 가동원전을 대상으로 방화벽 관통부 관리현황의 적합성을 평가하고 관리방법 및 절차를 향상시키기 위한 향후 과제를 제안하였다.

  • The safety of LPG vessel storage has been simply designed and controled with blast wave barrier structure concept regardless of its quantity or hazardous situation. The limit of regal controls on LPG vessel storage need to be identified in terms of safety buffer distance from LPG explosion. The level of overpressure effect and heat radiation In the safety structure and neighbouring human activity required to be estimated to find the gap between existing controls on such storage.   • The purpose of this study is analyzing temporal flow about 20 detailed performance items in the "Housing Performance Grading Indication System". This study try to figure out situations according grade in detailed performance item and to analyze change item about 112 cases(2 cases in 2006, 15 cases in 2007, 46 cases in 2008, 49 cases in 2009), from January 9, 2006 which system is undertaken, to October, 2009. This system consists of 5 main performance section, 14 performance categories and 20 detailed performance items. 5 main performance parts are Noise and Acoustics(Light-weight impact sound control, heavy-weight impact sound control, sound control of toilet, sound control of party wall), Long-life(flexibility, remodeling & maintenance, durability), Landscape & Indoor Environment(landscape, formaldehyde control & ventilation, daylighting, thermal environment), Welfare & Barrier-free(playground and community center, welfare space, barrier-free design), Fire Safety(fire safety, safe place, fire-resisting quality). Total efficiency about housing can understand systematically of 20 perfomance items though this research.

  • The purpose of this study is a proposal about the flexibility of the performance category to revitalize the "Housing Performance Grading Indication System". This system consists of 5 main performance parts, 14 performance categories and 20 detailed performance lists. 5 main performance parts are Noise and Acoustics(Light-weight impact sound control, heavy-weight impact sound control, sound control of toilet, sound control of party wall), Long-life(flexibility, remodeling & maintenance, durability), Landscape & Indoor Environment(landscape, formaldehyde control& ventilation, daylighting, thermal environment), Welfare & Barrier-free(playground and community center, welfare space, barrier-free design), Fire Safety(fire safety, safe place, fire-resisting quality). The flexibility of the performance category is conformed to Long-life housing related grading and can realize the Long-life housing in response to resident needs about the space rearrangement. Now, The flexibility of the performance category is limited to the evaluation of the private space, that is, the Skeleton evaluation. This study would suggest alternatives to improve uppermost limits through analyzing 60 examples from January 9th 2009 to October 30th 2008. The flexibility of the performance category is possible to estimate not only the Skeleton evaluation but also the Infill evaluation in response to social changes.

  • In today's design trend of vehicle structure, crush zone is fiequently reinforced by adding a box-shaped sub-frame in order to avoid an excessive deformation against a high-speed offset barrier such as EU Directive 96/97 EC, IIHS offset test. That kind of vehicle structure design results in a relatively monotonic crash pulse for airbag ECU(Electronic Control Unit) located at non-crush zone. As for an angular crash event, the measured crash signal using a single-axis accelerometer in a longitudinal direction is usually weaker than that of frontal barrier crash. Therefore, it is not so easy task to achieve a satisfactory crash discrimination performance for offset and angular crash events. In this paper, we introduce a new crash discrimination algorithm using an electronic X-Y 2-axis accelerometer in order to improve crash discrimination performance especially for those crash events. The proposed method uses a crash signal in lateral direction(Y-axis) as well as in longitudinal direction(X-axis). A crash severity measure obtained from Y-axis acceleration is used to improve the discrimination between fire and no-fire events. The result obtained by the proposed measure is logically ORed with an existing algorithm block using X-axis crash signal. Simulation and pulse injection test have been conducted to verify the performance of proposed algorithm by using real crash data of a 2,000cc passenger vehicle.

An experimental Investigation on Flame spreading over liquid fuel surface (액체 연료 표면에서의 화염확장기구에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Flame spreading over liquid fuel surface has been investigated using thermocouple and schlieren photograph. Without forced convection, it was clearly found that the flame spreading is mainly controlled by surface flow which is maybe generated by change of surface tension. Furthermore, the radiative heat transfer is dominant over a conductive heat transfer in kerosene. But the latter was found more influential than the former in diesel. Oscillation of flame spreading was found. It maybe cause of surface flow.
