  • This paper presents the recent research developments identified through a review of literature on the application of artificial intelligence in developing automated designs of fire protection facilities. The literature review covered research related to image recognition and applicable neural networks. Firstly, it was found that convolutional neural network (CNN) may be applied to the development of automating the design of fire protection facilities. It requires a high level of object detection accuracy necessitating the classification of each object making up the image. Secondly, to ensure accurate object detection and building information, the data need to be pulled from architectural drawings. Thirdly, by applying image recognition and classification, this can be done by extracting wall and surface information using dimension lines and pixels. All combined, the current review of literature strongly indicates that it is possible to develop automated designs for fire protection utilizing artificial intelligence.

  • The Swedish Fire Research Board was established in 1979 to initiate and fund relevant fire research efforts. The Board is responsible for a long term research programme revised every third year, and the Board is one of two major Swedish sponsors of all fire research. Beside the Board we also have the Swedish National Rescue Services, funded by the government. BRANDFORSK gives very high priority for the industry and the insurance company and the need they express for fire research. Research that the Rescue Services Board are funding is mainly focusing the need for the fire department. The Swedish Fire Research Board, BRANDFORSK, is the joint agency of the Swedish government, the insurance industry and the business sector, for the initiation, funding and supervision of different kinds of fire research. Work is directed by a Programme Board and is performed in the form of projects at universities, research institutes, state authorities and private firms. The Secretariat of BRANDFORSK shares the premises of the Swedish Fire Protection Association, SFPA, and the SFPA is the principal and the party which enters into agreement with the State. The programme for the period 1997-1999 has been drawn up on the basis of both damage development and the trends in society which can be noted, and the evident fire problems of the interested parties and their need for fire research. The inputs in the programme have been broken down seven problem areas. In every problem area different project areas are set out, and these primarily specify the aim of the work. Our seven problem-areas are; Costs and benefits of fire protection measure. The role and behaviour of people and organizations Fire In buildings Fire in underground facilities Rescue operations fire in industries Fire and the environment. In comparison with previous fire research programmes, cost/benefit studies have been accorded higher priority, and this is also reflected in other problem areas. Grater Emphasis

  • Distributed Denial of service attack is one of the major threats nowadays especially to the government infrastructure that give huge impact to the reputation and interrupt the services and resource. Our survey start with brief introduction about DDoS attacks, we illustrate the trends and incident happened at government from various countries. We then provide an extensive literature review on the existing research about implication, types of attacks and initiative to defence against the DDoS attacks. Our discussion aims to identify the trends in DDoS attacks, in depth impact of DDoS attacks to government infrastructure, classification of attacks and techniques against the attacks. And we will use for a fire fight safety and management.

  • A series of fire experiments have been performed to examine the measurement bias of the bare bead thermocouple widely used in fire testing and analyze the measurement bias of bare bead thermocouple comparing with the measured temperature using the aspirated thermocouple. The measured temperature of the bare bead thermocouple was lower than that of the aspirated thermocouple in the hot upper layer while it showed opposite trends in the upper layer. Also, the bare bead thermocouple showed higher measurement bias in the lower layer rather than upper layer in the compartment fire. The maximum relative percentage error of the bare bead thermocouple against the aspirated thermocouple reached 250% in the present study. The present study points out the need of correction process of the measured temperature by bare bead thermocouple for improving the reliability of the fire tests.

  • SUGVs (Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles) are being used to conduct dangerous missions, such as EOD (explosive ordinance disposal), counter-terrorism operations, fire extinguishing and fire-fighting reconnaissance, reconnaissance of disaster areas, and surveillance of contact areas. Technology leading countries, the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Israel, have developed and operated various SUGVs for use in the military and civilian fields. The developed system was upgraded further based on additional requirements associated with data collected during the actual operation. The development trends of technology leading countries are an important indicator for the future development of SUGVs. In this study, the development trends and missions of SUGVs operating in the technology leading countries were analyzed. Based on the development trends of SUGVs in these countries, this paper discusses the features and design characteristics needed for the development of SUGVs in future military and civilian domains.

  • This numerical study investigates the effects of the size of the natural smoke vent area (10% and 1% of the floor area) and the location of the fire source (i.e., at the side and center of the stage) on the temperature distribution in the compartment and velocity distribution and mass flow rate of flow through a natural smoke vent for a reduced-scale model of a theater stage. Then, the mass flow rate of outflow through the natural smoke vent in the event of a fire for a real-scale theater stage was examined. The case with the larger natural smoke vent area and central fire source location showed lower temperature distributions and higher mass flow rates of outflow and inflow than the case with the smaller natural smoke vent area and side fire source location. The trends of the temperature distributions were closely related to those of the mass flow rates for the outflow and inflow. Additionally, the case with the larger natural smoke vent area and central fire source location exhibited the most non-uniform flow velocity distribution in all cases tested. A bidirectional flow, in which the outflow and inflow occur simultaneously, was observed through the natural smoke vent. In the event of a fire situation in a real-scale theater stage, it was predicted that the case with the larger natural smoke vent area and central fire source location would have a mass flow rate of outflow that is 43.53 times higher than that of the case with the smaller natural smoke vent area and side fire source location. The present results indicate that the natural smoke vent location should be determined by considering the location in a theater stage where a fire can occur.

  • Enhancement of aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and surface aerosol mass concentration in Korea for an active forest fire episode in Northeast Asia were estimated by Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) model. MODIS/TERRA remote detects of fires in Northeast Asia for May 2003 gave a constraint for estimation of wildfire emissions with an NDVI distribution for recent five years. The simulated wildfire plumes and enhancement of AOT were evaluated and well resolved by comparing multiple satellite observations such as MODIS, TOMS, and others. Scatter plots of observed daily mean aerosol extinction coefficient versus $PM_{10}$ concentration in ground level in Korea showed distinctively different trends based on the ambient relative humidity.

  • The trends in building construction these days are moving towards having better work spaces and greater suitability for the use of information technology. Therefore people can work in a more relaxed delightful and pleasant environment. Accident such as like fire could cause the mass destruction of human beings. This paper aims to evaluate the path of the spread of a fire and the suitability of fire fighting appliances for maximum egress time. General advanced phase of compartment. Aswell, we analyzed and verified the path of the flame in compartment fires. Also we conducted an analysis of the adaptation of sprinkler systems concerned with sprinkler RTI. Moreover those evaluation is made more earlier by the development and use of computer simulation program and rapid progress to apply PBFD (Performance Based Fire Design).
