Data transformation is conducted due to data volatility. The data of fintech funding, both frequency and value, is transformed into standardized fintech funding and growth of fintech funding. The data is obtained from Crunchbase, while the data of stock returns is obtained from Investing. This study further analyzes the data using Fama French Three-Factor Model and panel data regression. The findings of the study provide some useful insights in understanding fintech companies' current position to retail banks in Indonesia. This study also suggests banking institutions, fintech companies, policy-makers, and others to take advantageous steps in building inclusive financial sectors.

  • Purpose Domestic asset management fintech companies are expected to grow by leaps and bounds along with the implementation of the "Data bills." Contrary to the market fever, however, academic research is insufficient. Therefore, we want to analyze user reviews of asset management fintech companies that are expected to grow significantly in the future to derive strengths and complementary points of services that have been provided, and analyze key elements of asset management fintech companies. Design/methodology/approach To analyze large amounts of review text data, this study applied text mining techniques. Bank Salad and Toss, domestic asset management application services, were selected for the study. To get the data, app reviews were crawled in the online app store and preprocessed using natural language processing techniques. Topic Modeling and Aspect-Sentiment Analysis were used as analysis methods. Findings According to the analysis results, this study was able to derive the elements that asset management fintech companies should have. As a result of Topic Modeling, 7 topics were derived from Bank Salad and Toss respectively. As a result, topics related to function and usage and topics on stability and marketing were extracted. • Fintech, which stands for financial technology, is growing fast globally since the economic crisis hit the United States in 2008. Fintech companies are striving to secure a competitive advantage over existing financial services by providing efficient financial services utilizing the latest technologies. Fintech companies can be classified into several areas according to their business solutions. Among the Fintech sector, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending companies are leading the domestic Fintech industry. P2P lending is a method of lending funds directly to individuals or businesses without an official financial institution participating as an intermediary in the transaction. The rapid growth of P2P lending companies has now reached a level that threatens secondary financial markets. However, as the growth rate increases, so does the potential risk factor. In addition to government laws to protect and regulate P2P lending, further measures to reduce the risk of P2P lending accidents have yet to keep up with the pace of market growth. Since most P2P lenders do not implement their own credit rating system, they rely on personal credit scores provided by credit rating agencies such as the NICE credit information service in Korea. However, it is hard for P2P lending companies to figure out the intentional loan default of the borrower since most borrowers' credit scores are not excellent. This study analyzed the voices of telephone conversation between the loan consultant and the borrower in order to verify if it is applicable to determine the personal credit score. Experimental results show that the change in pitch frequency and change in voice pitch frequency can be reliably identified, and this difference can be used to predict the loan defaults or use it to determine the underlying default risk. It has also been shown that parameters extracted from sample voice data can be used as a determinant for classifying the level of personal credit ratings.

  • Advances in information technology (IT) bring about technological innovation in financial businesses, referred to as financial technology (fintech), beyond the traditional financial industry. While fintech implies more convenient and various financial services to customers, it leads to more complexity in the financial sector, as different industry players (e.g., IT firms) can participate in financial businesses. The complexity of fintech causes controversial issues related to policies and the appropriate development direction. In order to provide insight into the current state of fintech, this study explores the fundamental understanding of the fintech phenomenon from the perspective of the major stakeholders (i.e., financial authorities, financial companies, IT firms) in South Korea. This study analyzed news articles, where those stakeholders expressed their arguments, by using a content analysis. The study also conducted an intensive examination of their arguments by using a core-periphery approach of social representations. This study found that while the three beholders had a common opinion on deregulation of the fintech industry, each of them had different knowledge of the phenomenon. By revealing each beholder's structure of representations of fintech, this study not only provides common knowledge regarding fintech but also explicates the perceptual gaps among stakeholders. Findings of the study offer a big picture of current fintech initiatives, which can be useful knowledge for future research on fintech.

  • The rapid development of China's digital economy has enabled China to lead the world in financial technology (FinTech). In this context, it is imperative to study the impact of FinTech at the macro level on the sources of R&D financing for micro-enterprises. Using the data of A-share listed companies on the main boards of China's Shanghai and Shenzhen cities and the municipal-level FinTech development index from 2011 to 2020, this paper conducts an empirical test by applying the system generalized method of moments estimation (system GMM). Fintech facilitates firms' external financing of R&D. There is significant heterogeneity across different types of firms, with fintech facilitating R&D financing more strongly for young and non-state firms. This study not only complements the literature on the impact of fintech on R&D financing but also has essential practical guidance significance, which can provide valuable guidance and assistance to different types of enterprises in their R&D financing decision-making process.
