  • The purpose of this study was to grasp actual condition of remodeling elements by specialists' in-depth interviews. The interview has been conducted to interior designer who have a wide experience of apartment remodeling. In-depth interview is a kind of qualitative method in which attention to reply of responses with open-access between interviewer and respondents. According to the results, remodeling elements were generally the renovation of balcony into the livingroom or children room, removal a doorsill, installation of storage furniture, change of lighting fixtures in the all rooms and change equipments of bathroom. Finishing materials were usual used normal wallpaper and normal or low emitting adhesive on ceiling and wall, tempered-flooring on floor, and ceramic tiles on bottom and wall of bath and entrance.

  • Unlike other countries, Korea uses various kinds of wall-paper as finishing material. Conventional wall-paper consists of paper and vinyl, and petrochemical ink is used for the decoration of the surface. Adhesive is used to paste the wall with the wall-paper, which emit substantial amounts of VOCs and formaldehyde. In this study, VOCs characteristics emitted from specimens made of concrete, mortar, gypsum board and wall-paper were investigated using small chamber method. Moreover, concentration and emission factor of BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m,p,o-Xylene) and TVOC were investigated, and concentration and emission factor decay were estimated. As a result of the prediction, both time-dependent concentration decay and cumulative concentration can be converted into the logarithmic scale. Furthermore, prediction equations were developed from the experimental results under accurately controlled experimental conditions. Therefore, there may be difference if the estimated equations are directly applied to real buildings. Further research should be done on the generalization of the developed prediction equations.

  • Abrasive jet machining(AJM) process is similar to the sand blasting, and effectively removes hard and brittle materials. AJM has applied to rough working such as deburring and rough finishing. As the needs for machining of ceramics, semiconductor, electronic devices and LCD are increasing, micro AJM was developed, and became the inevitable technique to micromachining. This paper describes the performance of the micro AJM in micro groove cutting of glass. Diameter of hole and width of line in this groove cutting is 80${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Experimental results showed good performance in micro groove cutting in glass, but the size of machined groove was increased about 2~4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. therefore, this micro AJM could be effectively applied to the micro machining of semiconductor, electronic devices and LCD parts.

  • Portland cement concrete exposed to high temperatures during mixing, transporting, casting, finishing, and curing can develop undesirable characteristics. Applicable requirements for such the hot weather concrete differ from country to country and government agencies. The current study is an attempt at evaluating the hardened properties of the concrete exposed to hot weather in fresh state. First of all, this study reviews the current state of understanding and practice for hot weather concrete placement in US and then roadway sites with suspected hot weather concrete problems were investigated. Core samples were obtained from the field locations and were analyzed by standard resonance frequency analysis and the boil test. Based on the results, there does not appear to be systematic evidence of frequent cracking problems related to high temperature placement. Thus, the suspicious deteriorations which are referable to hot weather concreting would be due to other factors.

  • In today's highly competitive marketplace, it is of great significance for the manufacturing industry to reduce lead-time and costs fur the product development. Since first emerged in 1986, Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology has helped successfully to reduce time and costs. Recently, RP using functional materials such as metal has been researched. However RP using the molten metal has been struggling to resolve several drawbacks, such as dimensional inaccuracy, poor surface finish, post finishing, etc., that originate primarily from the overall deposition of molten metal for each layer. So, the purpose of this study is to develop a new RP technique using sheet metal and projection welding for reducing several drawbacks in occurring RP using molten metal. Also tensile and bending specimens were made by the developed RP process using projection welding and were verified.

  • This study investigated the Present traditional Korean farmhousing and Past housing (from 1928~1956) based on a survey of 23 Korean women from Kyongki Province. It was primarily concerned with a Comparison of the present and past housing ; the size and plan of the house and finishing materials of Anbang(The masters bedroom : ondol) and the kind of furniture. lighting and heating in the Anbang. I was also interested in identifying the socio-demographic and physical variables that influenced the housing, past and Present. Bibliographical studios. cultural approaches and field surveys with tape recordings and questionnaires were used to collect the data. The results showed that the former Housing(averag ; 54 years ago) was very poor. Most homes lacked sufficient space. furniture and experienced a shortage of fuel. The most decisive difference from the present was the large family size. It would be beneficial to make a similar study in both the southern and northern regions of Korea.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fitness between Ni-Cr alloy and type III gold alloy, according to two finishing line, chamfer and shoulder. As experimental materials, author selected type III gold alloy and Ni-Cr alloy (Hicrown) which were popularly used in Korea for the full cast crown. Author prepared the wax patterns with milled stainless steel die and ring. The wax patterns were invested, burnouted, and casted. The maginal discrepancy was measured with scanning electron microscope. Author obtained the following results from this study. 1. The maginal fitness of Type III gold alloy was not significantly different from that of Ni-Cr alloy (Hi-crown). 2. There is no significant difference between chamfer and shoulder in case of Type III gold alloy. 3. The maginal fitness of chamfer type is significantly superior to that of shoulder type in the Ni-Cr alloy (Hi-Crown).

  • Fatigue, the birth and growth of cracks in metal parts subjected to repeated loading, has been a problem plaguing engineers since the Industrial Revolution and the advent of rotating or reciprocating machinery. Designing against metal fatigue was studied briefly in several aspects. Examples of fatigue failures were shown. Fatigue was classified by loading: uniaxial Fatigue, multiaxial fatigue, cumulative fatigue da¬mage. Fatigue design criteria were discussed: Infinite-Life Design, Safe-Life Design, Fail-Safe Design, and Damage Tolerant Design. Mitigation of notch effects by design, improvement of fatigue strength of metal parts by residual stress and surface finishing were discussed. Relative fatigue beha¬vior was studied under various environmantal conditions. Especially the effects of corrosion, temperature, fretting, and irradiation were covered.

  • When alkaline waste water of PET fabric is treated with sulfuric acid, undegradable material, crude TPA sludge is generated, so that treatment has a serious problem. The result of DMT synthesis using crude TPA sludge generated from PET alkaline waste water were as follows: 1. When crude TPA generated from alkaline waste water is reactioned with methanol under catalyst of sulfuric acid, pure DMT can be obtained. 2. In DMT synthesis from crude TPA, addition of copper sulfate can increase yield, and increasing the amount of sulfuric acid can shorten reaction time.
