  • Objective: To assess differences in serum proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients. Methods: 144 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients and 50 healthy volunteers were included in this study, with surface-enhanced laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and weak cation exchange magnetic beads. Follow-up allowed the relations between serum proteins and prognosis to be analyzed. Results: A total of 93 protein peaks were detected (molecular weight range: 1500-30000), 10 demonstrating statistically significant differences. There were no differences in protein peaks between 92 patients with a survival more than 2 years and 52 patients with survival less than 2 years. There were two significantly different protein peaks between 45 stage II patients with a survival more than 2 years and 14 stage II patients with survival less than 2 years. There was one significantly different protein peak between 22 stage III patients with a survival more than 2 years and 29 stage III patients with survival less than 2 years. Conclusion: Differences of serum proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma are related to prognosis of patients. The protein fingerprint can be helpful for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

  • Cupredoxin-like proteins are mainly copper-binding proteins that conserve a typical rigid Greek-key arrangement consisting of an eight-stranded β-sandwich, even though they share as little as 10-15% sequence similarity. The electron transport function of the Cupredoxins is critical for respiration and photosynthesis, and the proteins have therapeutic potential. Despite their crucial biological functions, the identification of the distant Cupredoxin homologs has been a difficult task due to their low sequence identity. In this study, the overlapped conserved residue (OCR) fingerprint for the Cupredoxin superfamily, which consists of conserved residues in three aspects (i.e., the sequence, structure, and intramolecular interaction), was used to detect the novel Cupredoxin homologs in the NCBI non-redundant protein sequence database. The OCR fingerprint could identify 54 potential Cupredoxin sequences, which were validated by scanning them against the conserved Cupredoxin motif near the Cu-binding site. This study also attempted to model the 3D structures and to predict the functions of the identified potential Cupredoxins. This study suggests that the OCR-based approach can be used efficiently to detect novel homologous proteins with low sequence identity, such as Cupredoxins.

  • The Degradation of amur cork tree extract is investigated by GC-MS after treating the dye with three thermal degradation systems of, room temperature (RT), $4^{\circ}C$ refrigeration (LT), $100^{\circ}C$ oven (OV), and $H_2O_2$/UV/$O_2$ (PER) degradation system for 0-24 days. It was found that PER degradation system represented the highest intensity of degradation treatment followed by OV treatment among the four degradation parameters. The possible fingerprint products of amur cork tree dye, that yielded 68% (or higher) reliability in the NIST spectral match, were isobenzofuran-1,3-dione,4,5-dimethoxy- (8.37 min, PER only), 1,3-dioxolo[4,5-g]isoquinolin-5(6H)-one,7,8-dihydro (9.41 min, PER only), canthine-6-one (10.24 min, RT, LT, OV only), and dihydroberberine (15.05 min, RT, LT, OV, PER) in the order of higher to lower possibility of detection. Unknown products 7 (13.43 min) and 8 (16.35 min) are two other possible fingerprint products of amur cork tree dye that require future identification.

  • Various techniques for indoor positioning using a smart phone have been studied. Among them, the positioning technology using the acceleration sensor and the gyro sensor built in the smartphone is widely used in conjunction with the WiFi fingerprint technology. The location tracking technology using sensors has been used for a long time, but the performance environment of the smartphone is poor and the user is moving with the smartphone in a certain posture. Therefore, in order to improve the accuracy of location tracking in a smartphone environment, it is necessary to study and develop appropriate algorithms in a mobile environment. In this paper, we analyze the performances of frequency analysis method, maximum sum of minimum acceleration method and adaptive threshold method, which are the user's moving step count detection algorithms, and determine the most accurate method.

  • The objectives of this study are the detection and forecast of climate change signal in the annual mean of surface temperature data, which are generated by MRI/JMA CGCM over the Korean Peninsula. MRI/JMA CGCM outputs consist of control run data(experiment with no change of $CO_2$ concentration) and scenario run data($CO_2$ 1%/year increase experiment to quadrupling) during 142 years for surface temperature and precipitation. And ECMWF reanalysis data during 43 years are used as observations. All data have the same spatial structure which consists of 42 grid points. Two statistical models, the Bayesian fingerprint method and the regression model with autoregressive error(AUTOREG model), are separately applied to detect the climate change signal. The forecasts up to 2100 are generated by the estimated AUTOREG model only for detected grid points.

  • Due to a number of illegal copied videos, many video content markets have been threatened. Since this copied videos have intercepted the profits of the content holders, content developers lose the will to generate new contents. Therefore, video copy detection approaches have been developed to protect the copyrights of video contents. However, many illegal uploader who generate copied videos used video transformations to avoid video copy detection systems. Among of the video transformations, rotation and flipping did not distorted the quality of video contents. Thus, these two video transformations were adopt to generate copied video. In order to detect rotated or flipping copy videos, rotation and flipping robust region binary pattern (RFR) recently was proposed. But, this RFR has a weakness according to rotated angles. Therefore, in order to overcome this problem, multi region binary patterns are proposed in this paper. The proposed method has the similar performance with the original RFR. But, it showed much higher efficiency for memory spaces.

  • This paper proposes a novel scheme of a gray scale fingerprint image for a high-accuracy capacitive sensor chip. The conventional grayscale image scheme uses a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) of a large-scale layout or charge-pump circuit with high power consumption and complexity by a global clock signal. A modified capacitive detection circuit for the charge sharing scheme is proposed, which uses a down literal circuit (DLC) with a floating-gate metal-oxide semiconductor transistor (FGMOS) based on a neuron model. The detection circuit is designed and simulated in a 3.3 V, 0.35 ${\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. Because the proposed circuit does not need a comparator and peripheral circuits, the pixel layout size can be reduced and the image resolution can be improved.

  • Human recognition on camera is an interesting topic in computer vision. While fingerprint and face recognition have been become common, gait is considered as a new biometric feature for distance recognition. In this paper, we propose a gait recognition algorithm based on the knee angle, 2 feet distance, walking velocity and head direction of a person who appear in camera view on one gait cycle. The background subtraction method firstly use for binary moving object extraction and then base on it we continue detect the leg region, head region and get gait features (leg angle, leg swing amplitude). Another feature, walking speed, also can be detected after a gait cycle finished. And then, we compute the errors between calculated features and stored features for recognition. This method gives good results when we performed testing using indoor and outdoor landscape in both lateral, oblique view.

  • In this paper, a method of using Software Defined Radio (SDR) is proposed for improving the accuracy of identifying two kinds of signals as Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) signal and Bluetooth signal at the same frequency band of 2.4 GHz based on the time-domain signal characteristic. An SDR device was set up for collecting transmitting signals from Wi-Fi access points (Wi-Fi) and mobile phones (Bluetooth). Different characteristics between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals were extracted from the measured result. The SDR device is programmed with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth detection algorithm and a collision detection algorithm to detect and verify the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals based on collected IQ data. These methods are necessary for some applications like wireless communication optimization, Wi-Fi fingerprint localization, which helps to avoid interference and collision between two kinds of signals.
