Portland cement concrete is made with coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, portland cement, water and, in some cases, selected chemical admixtures such as air-entraining agents, water reducer, superplasticizer, and so on, and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, silica fume, slags, etc. Typically, in the concrete, the coarse aggregate and fine aggregate will occupy approximately 80 percent of the total volume of the final mix. Therefore, the coarse and fine aggregates affect to the properties of the portland cement concrete. As the natural sands are drained, it is necessary and economical to utilize crushed sands(manufactured fine aggregate). It is reported that crushed sands differ from natural sands in gradation, particle shape and texture, and the micro fines in the crushed sands affect to the quality of the portland cement concrete. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of fresh and hardened concrete with high content of micro fines. This study provides firm data for the use of crushed sands with higher micro fines.

In this study, the characteristics of recycled aggregate concrete according to the mixing ratio of recycled fine aggregate were analyzed by design strength to explore its use in the production of ready-mixed concrete. The results show that, depending on the ratio of recycled aggregate, the compressive strength is similar to that of normal concrete and does not deteriorate. Therefore, it is possible to achieve a strength similar to the target design strength. Furthermore, if the ratio of recycled fine aggregate for concrete is up to 25 % of the total aggregate amount (50 % of the to-tal fine aggregate), slump does not cause problems. Our findings show that the higher the de-sign standard strength, the greater the amount of powder, and management of slump reduction, unit quantity, and performance system is necessary. The obtained results show that recycled ag-gregate can be used for the production of ready-mixed concrete after adjusting its mixing ratio and concrete mix proportions.

Concrete containing styrene-butadiene latex is widely used, nowadays, as a protective system for bridge. Latex modification mortar have taken advantage of latex modification concrete advantage that is used in existing, Also, when repair, protection and sticking performance of concrete overlay waterproof agent were known as that are good. Replace and experimented from fine aggregate to recycled aggregate to secure economic performance than existing latex modification concrete. Recycled fine aggregate has low quality because it contains large amount of old mortar. So, its usage is limited to a lower value-add, such as the roadbed material etc. This study is purposed to improve the performance of mortar made of recycled fine aggregate. For this, recycled aggregate mortar was produced with latex, and fluidity, strength were examined. Test result indicate that mortar using recycled fine aggregate is higher compressive and flexural strength than mortar using river sand.

This study is intended to investigate the engineering properties of concrete, in which cement and fine aggregate are replaced with cement kiln dust(CKD), such as the properties of fresh concrete and hardened concrete and hydration heat history, for effective using method of CKD, a by-product produced in the process of making cement. According to the results, as the replacing ratio of CKD increases, slump and air content of concrete decreases remarkably due to an increase of viscosity and filling of the pores. As the properties of setting, initial and final setting time are shortened with an increase of the replacing ratio of CKD, and as the replacement of CKD for fine aggregate increases, setting time is shortened more greatly. Compressive strength increases due to filling of the pores and reduction of air content in comparison with plain concrete. When the replacement ratio of CKD for cement is 10% and 15%, peak temperature of hydration heat lowers slightly, but it goes up in the case of replacement of CKD for fine aggregate. Also, when cement and fine aggregate is replaced with CKD by 2.5% and 7.5% respectively(1C3S) in the case of replacement of CKD for cement and fine aggregate, it is highest.

Along with recent improvement of recycling technique, the quality of the recycled concrete aggregate have become very competitive to the natural concrete aggregate. Therefore, a practical use of the recycled concrete aggregate may be possible for structural members. Majority studies about the recycled concrete aggregate was emphasized a limitation of fundamental study concerned with a strength characteristics and durability of the recycled aggregate concrete. Therefore, for the extension of application of recycled concrete aggregate, this investigation verifies the strength characteristics and structural performances of PHC piles used with coarce and fine recycled concrete aggregate.

As this study is the one related to the ultra high strength concrete essentially used for high rise buildings, it has analyzed on the flowability of ultra high strength concrete according to the variation of coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. The coarse aggregate was planned as two types including Granite Aggregate (GA) and crushed coarse Limestone Aggregate (LA) while fine aggregate was planned as four types including Sea Sand (SS), Limestone Crushed Fine Aggregates (LFA), Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag Aggregates (EFA) and Crushed Sand (CS) to perform experiment with a total of eight variables. As a result of analyzing slump flow, 500mm concentration time, U-Box and L-Flow, etc. among the characteristics of fresh concrete, a mix using LA+LFA is determined to show high flowability in case of applying ultra high strength concrete.
The usage of nondestructive testing on early-aged concrete leads to enhacned safty and allows effective scheduling of construction, thus making it possible to maximize the time and cost efficiencies. In this study, a reliable nondestructive strength evaluation method for early-aged concrete using the longitudinal wave velocity is proposed. Compression tests were performed to examine factors influencing the velocity-strength relationship of concrete, such as water-cement (w/c) ratio, fine aggregate ratio, curing temperature, and curing condition. The test results show that a change in the w/c ratio and curing temperature has minor effect on the velocity-strength relationship/ However, curing condition significantly influences the velocity-strength relationship of early-aged concrete. Moreover, the longitudinal wave velocity increases with decreasing fine aggregate ratio. It is concluded from this study that the strength evaluation of early-age concrete can be achieved by a nonlinear equation which considers the effects of curing condition and fine aggregate ratio.

It is strongly needed to investigate the fine sand as an alternative fine aggregate of well-graded river sand because the fine sand which is being enormously distributed in the midstream and downstream of Nakdong-River in Korea has a poor grading but good quality as a fine aggregate for concrete. Thus, the purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the durability of concrete using the fine sand to utilize it actively as a fine aggregate. For this purpose, the concrete specimens using different fine sand were made for the specified concrete strength of 35MPa, and then their durability such as the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation, and drying shrinkage were evaluated. It was observed from the test results that the resistance to freezing and thawing and carbonation of concrete using the fine sand was similar to that of concrete using reference sand, but the drying shrinkage of concrete using the fine sand with small fineness was comparatively lager than that of concrete using reference sand.

This study was undertaken to examine the feasibility of recycling waste concrete fine aggregate to prepare polymer-modified mortars. The specimens of polymer-modified mortars were prepared by using styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) latex and polyacrylic ester(PAE) emulsion as a polymer modifier. The formulations for specimens were prepared with various replacing ratios of waste concrete fine aggregates as parts of standard sand and various polymer cement ratios. For the evaluation of the performance of polymer-modified mortars, various physical properties were investigated. As a results, water cement ratio of polymer-modified fresh mortars increased with an increase of recycled fine aggregate, but decreased with an increase of polymer modifiers. The compressive and flexural strengths of polymer-modified mortars decreased with an increase of recycled fine aggregate, but flexural strengths increased with an increase of polymer modifiers.

This study examined concrete characteristics depending on the replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregates, which suits the KS F 2573 concrete recycled aggregate standard. As physical properties, slump, air content, changes in the elapse of time and compressive strength were studied in order to provide basic data for activation of recycled fine aggregate recycling. As a result of experimenting recycled fine aggregate concrete, the increase in the replacement ratio of recycled aggregates led to the increase in slump and air content. Also, when the replacement ratio of recycled fine aggregates was 30%, it was judged that there was no problem with constructability. When the replacement ratio was 30%, recycled fine aggregate concrete had a similar tendency to natural aggregate concrete at a compressive strength of 24MPa. When the replacement ratio was 30%, at a target strength of 24MPa, recycled fine aggregate concrete had the same physical characteristics as natural aggregate concrete. This means that a replacement ratio of 30% is appropriate for replacement of recycled fine aggregates. In future, there will be a need to improve the quality of recycled fine aggregates for activating the use of recycled fine aggregates and further research will have to evaluate physical properties of recycled fine aggregate concrete using improved recycled fine aggregates.
