  • An internal finishing process by the application of magnetic abrasive machining has been developed as a new technology to obtain a fine inner surface of pipe. In this paper, an abrasive circulation system was designed and manufactured. As a result, it was found that a fine inner surface abrasive of pipe was available by the use of this machining methods. The basic machining characteristics of pin-type magnetic tools were analyzed experimentally. In addition, the experimental results show that we can realize that pin-type magnetic tools have more machining efficiency than iron particles as magnetic tools.

  • An internal finishing process by the application of magnetic abrasive machining has been developed as a new technology to obtain a fine inner surface of pipe. In this paper, the finishing process of a non-ferromagnetic pipe by a static magnetic field method is introduced and its finishing characteristics is discussed with effective factors by various experiments. From these experimental results, it is found that the magnetic abrasives inserted in the pipe are arranged according to the magnetic force line. Through the experimental, it is possible to estimate the proper supply volume of the abrasive, which in proportional to the diameter of pipe.

  • Magneto-rheological polishing is a new technology used in precision polishing. It utilizes magneto-rheological fluid. nonmagnetic polishing abrasive, aqueous carrier fluids in magnetic field to remove material from a part surface. Silicon micro channel as work piece is fixed in the slurry which is made of MR fluid and CeO$_2$(10 vol%) abrasive particles. And permanent magnet rotate in the slurry to transfers magnetic force to abrasive particles by increasing yield strength of MR fluid. so, the obtained bottom surface roughness of micro channel by experiment reduced to Ra 0.010 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.103 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and finwall surface roughness of micro channel reduced to Ra 0.018 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.468 $\mu\textrm{m}$. At optimum conditions of variables, the workpiece as silicon micro channel have about 24 times smaller surface roughness than before polishing.

  • The micro-extruding die is a die for manufacturing of fine-wire by extruding process. The fine-wire made from the micro-extruding can be effectively applied to fields of semiconductor parts and medical parts etc. It is predicted that the demand of fine-wire in industry is more and more increasing. In this study $\phi50\mu m$ micro-drill which is coated with diamond is used for drilling of super micro-hole sizes. For the machining of taper parts of entrance and exit, drill having $\phi50\mu\textrm{mm}$ inclination angle $20^{\circ}$and angle $30^{\circ}$ is used. This is useful for anti tool-breakage and excessive too-wear in drilling process. After micro-drilling, the polishing process by diamond abrasive and polishing wood s carried out for increasing surface roughness.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine and propose a high quality blade manufacturing method by applying ELID grinding technology to machining the tungsten carbide blade edge for MLCC sheet cutting. In this study, experiments are performed according to the abrasive type of grinding wheel, grinding method and grinding direction using the non-stop continuous dressing ELID grinding technology. By comparing and analyzing the chipping phenomena and surface roughness of both the blade grinding surface and the processed surface, a method for machining the tungsten carbide blade for cutting MLCC sheet is proposed. From the analysis of the surface roughness and chipping phenomena, it is confirmed that the use of diamond abrasive is advantageous for the blade machining. In addition, it succeeds in the machining of $6{\mu}m$ fine blade without any chipping, by using the grinding wheel #4000 with the diamond abrasive.

  • The effect of mechanical parameters on chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) of blanket and patterned aluminum thin films are investigated. CMP process experiments are conducted using the soft pad and the slurry mainly composed of acid solution and A1$_2$O$_3$ abrasive. The result for the blanket film showed that as the concentration of abrasive in slurry is increased, the surface roughness gets worse but the waviness gets better. The planarity of the patterned Al films is slowly improved by CMP when the width of and gap between the patterns are relatively small. It is tried to find the optimized CMP process conditions by that the patterned Al thin film can be planarized with fine surface. The most satisfiable film surface is obtained when the applied pressure is low (10kPa) and the abrasive concentration is relatively high (5wt%).

In this paper, the finishing process of a non-ferromagnetic pipe by a static magnetic field method is introduced and its finishing characteristics is discussed with effective factors by various experiments. From these experimental results, it is found that the proper suppling quantity of magnetic abrasives per diameter of pipe is important, and the inner surface roughness of pipe is not changed much after certain critical finishing time. As a result of this investigation the 3.2$\mu$m Rmax in inner surface roughness of stainless steel pipe is improved to 0.7$\mu$m Rmax after 6 minutes finishing.

  • The effect of matrix phase (austenite, pearlite, martensite) on the low stress abrasion resistance in the chromium-carbide-type high Cr white iorn hardfacing weld deposites has been investigated. In order to examine matrix phase, a series of alloys with different matrix phase by changing the ratio of Cr/C system by heat treatment were employed. The alloys were deposited twice on a mild steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. The low stress abrasion resistance of the alloys against sands was measured by the Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test(RWAT). Even though formation of pearlite phase in the matrix showed higher hardness than that of austenite, there was no observable difference in wear resistance between the pearlite and austenite phase for the same amount of chromium-carbide in the matrix. On the other hand, the formation of martensitic phase,, from heat treated austenitic alloys (high content of Cr), enhanced wear resistance due to its fine secondary precipitates.
