  • This paper builds a system dynamics model analyzing first mover effect and growth strategy of online retailer, a major segment of B2C e-commerce. The dynamic model in this paper is calibrated to the online book market and Yes24.com as major test cases. The model consists of eight key value chain sectors. Five of these(Users, Site Operations, Human Resources, Financial Accounting, and Fundraising) are internal to the company, and three others(Market, Financial Market, and Relative Performance) are external to the company. With the model, this paper suggests research propositions representing positive feedback loops and negative feedback loops that lead to corporate growth and limits to growth according to dynamic causal relationships among eight key value chain sectors, and simulate these propositions.

  • This paper proposes a pricing model for IPOs which can reconcile the average underpricing phenomenon with the expected wealth maximizing behaviors of market participants. Under the usual informational asymmetry, the optimal offer price for best efforts IPOs is derived as a function of the uncertainty about market's valuation, the expected return on proposed projects and the size of offerings relative to the firm's market value. Depending on these firm-specific characteristics, best efforts IPOs can be underpriced, fairly priced, or overpriced. Introducing the investment banker as an outside information producer, the model is extended to provide empirical implications for pricing and underwriting contract choice decisions which are consistent with the existing empirical evidences. The model predicts that the issuers with greater uncertainty about market's valuation choose best efforts contract over firm commitment contract and the dispersion of initial returns would be greater for best efforts IPOs than for firm commitment IPOs.

  • This study quantifies the dynamic interrelationship between the KOSPI index return and search query data derived from the Naver DataLab. The empirical estimation using a bivariate GARCH model reveals that negative contemporaneous correlations between the stock return and the search frequency prevail during the sample period. Meanwhile, the search frequency has a negative association with the one-week- ahead stock return but not vice versa. In addition to identifying dynamic correlations, the paper also aims to serve as a test bed in which the existence of profitable trading strategies based on big data is explored. Specifically, the strategy interpreting the heightened investor attention as a negative signal for future returns appears to have been superior to the benchmark strategy in terms of the expected utility over wealth. This paper also demonstrates that the big data-based option trading strategy might be able to beat the market under certain conditions. These results highlight the possibility of big data as a potential source-which has been left largely untapped-for establishing profitable trading strategies as well as developing insights on stock market dynamics.

  • This study aims to test the valur relevance of development cost particularly focusing on IT firms of KOSDAQ. Test period is from 2005 to 2007 and the samples are 2,271 year-firms including 1,692 firms that reported development cost in financial statements. The basic test model is a modified Ohlson(1995)'s linear model. The empirical results show that there is the negative relation between stock price and development cost reported as asset. It means that development costs reported as asset is considered as expense in the market. It implies that development activities of KOSDAQ IT firms is not related to market-leading technologies or goods. Otherwise it might reflect the conservative valuation of market on the unstability of KOSDAQ market itself.

  • The article is devoted to perfecting the system of management of the financial potential of transport enterprises. It is established that transport as an integral part of the state economy has to organically enter the market economy and provide sustainable transport services to national economy enterprises regardless of ownership, as well as ensure passenger transportation. It is also determined that in the conditions of market relations, transport highways must perform their functions with sufficient economic benefit to keep their material and technical resources in good order, conduct an investment policy with extensive use of scientific and technological progress, as well as a social policy guaranteeing the conditions for employees' motivated work. The study reveals an association between the financial and strategic goals of transport enterprises and the minimization of their economic risks, the prevention of bankruptcy and profit margin shortfalls. It is found that transport enterprises need to strive for the overall improvement of their financial potential through increasing the components of financial potential and assessing the impact of risk factors on them: the capacity of fixed assets, the capacity of financial resources, the capacity of services, and the capacity of credit opportunities. These are the elements of transport enterprises' financial potential that ensure its desired level. It is demonstrated that of critical importance in managing the financial potential of a transport enterprise is the role of financial resources, as a subject cannot reach the desired strategic goals without them.

The implications of this study derived from the research results are as follows: Among the elements of technology innovation capability, R&D capability, positively affects both financial and non-financial performance. It was confirmed that the investment ratio could positively affect financial performance such as sales, market share, and yield, and non-financial performance such as corporate image, employee satisfaction, and productivity. Among the factors of technology innovation capability, the technology innovation system positively affects both financial and non-financial performance. Therefore, it can be said that securing rights to owned technology, establishing technology and funding, efficient use of resources, etc., affects financial performance such as sales or market share of a company, and affect the company's production capacity, image, and employee satisfaction. It has been verified that internal resources, including financial, physical, and human resources, can mediate between the three elements of technology innovation capability and corporate financial and non-financial performance.

  • To tranquilize the devastating impact of unnecessary risk-taking behavior of banks towards the economy for maximizing their profits that usually arises due to widely known 'moral-hazard' problem originating from market competition and intensified by bank's limited liability, the banking system is strongly monitored across all countries of the world. The goal of controlling would become more feasible if there exist some self-discipline and motivations which could safeguard the banks' charter value through the mechanism of market discipline. Therefore, our study is aimed to scrutinize the relation between market discipline and charter value of local commercial banks that are registered on the Pakistan Stock Exchange by analyzing a balanced panel data from the year 2007 to 2019. Deposit growth, interbank deposits, and subordinate debt are taken as proxies to measure market discipline whereas Tobin's Q theory is applied for calculating the charter value. Generalized Least Square Regression with Fixed Effect Model is used for evaluation. The outcomes reveal that in the existence of control variables, all proxies of market discipline have a significant positive impact on bank charter value. Our research has important policy implications for monitoring and supervising financial intermediaries for their stability and soundness by offsetting the complications of moral-hazard in the financial systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish a foundation for IoT-related industries to secure financial soundness and to dominate the global market after COVID-19. Through this study, the quantitative management status of IoT-related companies was checked. It also was attempted to preemptively prepare for corporate insolvency by examining the relationship between financial ratios in accordance with stock price fluctuations and designation of management items. This study selected 502 companies that were listed on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ in the stock market from 2019 to 2020. For statistical analysis, multiple regression analysis, difference analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed. The research results are as follows. First, it was found that the impact of IoT company accounting information on stock prices differs depending on before and after COVID-19. Second, it was found that there is a difference in the closing stock prices of IoT companies before and after COVID-19. Third, it was found that financial ratios according to stock price fluctuations exist differently after COVID-19. Fourth, it was found that the financial ratios according to the designation of management items after COVID-19 exist differently. Through these studies, some suggestions were made to secure the financial soundness of IoT companies and to lay the groundwork for leaping into the global market after COVID-19. Through the results of this study, it is expected that it will lead the growth of IoT companies and contribute to growth as a decacorn company of the future that can guarantee financial soundness in the changing financial market.
