  • Patents are widely used in the literature as a measure of firm-level innovation. It is regarded that patents improve a firm's operational environment and ultimately increase the value of the firm. However, the relationship between patents and firm value in Korea is under-explored in the literature due to the difficulty of constructing datasets. This paper examines whether patents in Korea increase the market value of a firm. To do this, I exploit novel data on firm-level patents and financial information of all listed Korean companies during the period of 1993-2015 and estimate the non-linear production-function type of Tobin's q equations on R&D, patents, and citations. Surprisingly, I find that patents and citations are weakly associated with firm value, while R&D is strongly associated with an increase in firm value. These results direct imply that policymakers in Korea should enhance patenting incentives to encourage firms to innovate.

  • Although manufacturing cost is a major part of profit in a company, it is difficult to be calculated by an analytic method. Besides, the manufacturing cost gained by simple financial structure dose not have an important meaning in market place. Therefore, an analytic method of computing the manufacturing cost is very necessary in manufacturing system. In this study, we suggested the direct cost analysis model which are able to measure accurate cost analysis of product in manufacturing system. The direct cost analysis model is made up of directly used expenditure for unit product. Also, system performances are put in the manufacturing cost analysis model so that it could be possible to analyze the change of manufacturing cost as system performances change. At the end of this paper, it verifies its relevancy and practicality of the suggested direct cost analysis model through the case study, using real data for direct labor cost.

  • With the restructuring of the electric power industry during the past decade, operation and control strategies have undergone a shift in paradigm. Certain activities that were earlier considered as part of the integrated electricity supply(such as voltage and frequency control) are now treated as separate services and often independently managed and accounted for. This paper examines the management of reactive power services in deregulated electricity markets around the world. From the review several diverse methods for handling reactive power within the deregulated market framework emerges. While in many of the markets, proper financial compensation mechanisms exist to compensate the providers for their service, some others continue to handle reactive power through regulatory frameworks and technical operation guidelines.

  • Recently, the energy situation in Korea has been significantly changed. Rapid increase in electricity demand, tremendous financial need for new power plant construction, and environmental problem have led to search for more efficient energy production and energy conservation technologies. Due to the potential energy and cost savings to both electric utilities and industries, cogeneration will play an important role in the electric power and thermal energy supply in the future. In this study, we present the COGENMASTER computer model for optimal system configuration and economic analysis of cogeneration system. We also present several case studies with this module to analyze Korean cogeneration market. The result of this study will be useful to utility and industrial cogeneration planners for rapid analysis of cogeneration's value under a broad range of scenarios.

  • One of the most important service industries that emerged in the last decade is "Higher Education". The most of the higher education institutes involve in marketing efforts to build up a good image, to improve the level of satisfaction of students and the stakeholders, to gain competitive advantage with respect to competitors and as well as to increase their market share. Within this intense competition universities should identify and meet the expectations of students to attract more and to retain the existing students. This study is to gain more insights into the dimensions of satisfaction of the university students and factors that affecting their judgments. SSI educational experience questionnaire is used to identify the importance and performance perceptions of students' in Eastern Mediterranean University among different dimensions and also study find out the difference between importance and performance scores of eleven educational experience dimensions. Results show that "Academic Advising", "Instruction Effectiveness", "Recruitment and Financial Aid" and "Student Centeredness" was very important to students. Study also provides managerial implications as well.

  • The prediction of stock price index is a very difficult problem because of the complexity of stock market data. It has been studied by a number of researchers since they strongly affect other economic and financial parameters. The movement of stock price index has a series of change points due to the strategies of institutional investors. This study presents a two-stage forecasting model of stock price index using change-point detection and artificial neural networks. The basic concept of this proposed model is to obtain intervals divided by change points, to identify them as change-point groups, and to use them in stock price index forecasting. First, the proposed model tries to detect successive change points in stock price index. Then, the model forecasts the change-point group with the backpropagation neural network(BPN). Finally, the model forecasts the output with BPN. This study then examines the predictability of the integrated neural network model for stock price index forecasting using change-point detection.

  • Nuclear energy issues such as safety and social acceptance can not only influence the production costs of generating nuclear power, but also the external costs that are not reflected in market prices. Consequently, the social issues affiliated with nuclear power, beyond a severe accident, require some form of financial expense. The external social issues considered here are accident risk and realization, regulatory costs, and nuclear energy policy costs. Through several calculations and analyses of these external costs for nuclear power generation, it is concluded that these costs range from 7 to 27 \/kWh. Considering external costs are required for making energy plans, it could have an influence on generation costs.

  • In the over-the-counter market, option's buyers could have a problem for default risk caused by option's writers. In addition, many participants try to maximize their benefits obviously in investing the financial derivatives. Taking all these circumstances into consideration, we deal with the vulnerable power options under a constant elasticity variance (CEV) model. We derive an analytic pricing formula for the vulnerable power option by using the asymptotic analysis, and then we verify that the analytic formula can be obtained accurately by comparing our solution with Monte-Carlo price. Finally, we examine the effect of CEV on the option price based on the derived solution.

  • Along with rapid global economic development, people are slowly becoming environmentally aware and green development is increasingly a vital topic of social concern. Academic circles are currently focusing on environmental protection and economic growth to explore the coordinated development of both and to achieve a win-win solution between them. To study the relationship between environmental protection experience and both cost and performance, this study empirically analyzes companies listing on the Shenzhen A-share market from 2014 to 2018. The results show that senior executives' environmental protection experience is negatively correlated with corporate costs, whereas it is positively correlated with business performance. These results provide empirical evidence of the importance of enterprises introducing and cultivating environmental personnel and insisting on sustainable development.
