  • The market for a payday advance, regarded as both a convenient and short term-loan for immediate financial help, has grown incredibly since the 1990's. Despite its popularity by borrowers and the possible benefits, it has received negative publicity. Some borrowers have been caught in a debt trap for a long-term period and at tripledigit interest rates. The objective of this study is to shed light on the borrowers' profiles and their demand for a payday advance. Based on the 2010 household level data from the U.S. Federal Reserve Board, this study finds that payday advance users are pronounced as seemingly risky people. Payday advance users tend to be college drop-outs, African Americans, and non-homeowners compared to non-payday advance users. They are more likely to overspend above their income and have a favorable attitude toward conspicuous spending than non-payday advance users. They tend not to shop at all nor perform even moderate shopping for credit before using a payday advance service as opposed to non-payday advance users.

  • This study uses financial statements on several hundred companies listed in the Korea Stock Market to analyze trends in inventory turnover ratios and examine the effect of inventory performance on the profitability of the companies. Statistical analyses are done to determine if there have been significant changes in inventory turnover ratios and how turnover ratio pattern varied by factors such as industry, size of the firm, and the effectiveness of previous inventory management. Inventory turnover ratios decreased for four consecutive years and were found to vary by industry. Also it is proved that there was statistically significant relationship between the size of the firm and the average level of inventory as a fraction of sales. Regression analysis is done to investigate the relationship between the inventory management performance and profitability of companies and it is found that improvement in inventory level affected profitability of the companies.

  • The purpose of this study is theoretical research on risk. The research is focused on systematic risk. Chapter I is objective of this study, Chapter II includes definition and measurement of risk. Chapter III introduces attitudes toward risk and classification of risk. Chapter IV discusses Portfolio theory, Capital market line and Shape and Lintner model The objective of firm is assumed to maximize its value. In a world of uncertainty, value is not determined by earnings alone, the degree of risk involved with the streams of earnings. Financial manager has to consider the risk in order to maximize the value of firm. Total risk can be classifier into two parts : Systematicrisk and unststematic risk by Sharpe. Systematic risk is important because investors can't diversify it. Blume and Jensen measured f and they testified that the f is stationary over the time For further study, Korean stock mark has to take emperical study about $\beta$ and its stationarity.

  • In this paper, we propose the double robust estimators which are the solutions of the double robust estimating equations to analyze and treat the outliers in the stock market data in Korea including the IMF period. The feasibility study shows that the proposed estimators work quitely better than the least squares estimators and the conventional robust estimators.

  • Within residential high-rise market there are many value determining factors. Site condition, view, program, units and structure are important parameters that are directly related to the financial aspect of the project. However, most of the studies of high-rise building design focus on the facade and the shape strategies from an esthetic point of view without considering these factors. The objective of this study is to investigate new design approach that incorporates site, program and structural information at an early stage as a generator of building form and explore a wide range of strategies to negotiate these factors in the process of design/decision making. Not being based on designer's subjective preference or style, architects still can create interesting building design through integration and negotiation of various building information. Since this form is based on real data, not just play of form, we can expect that this form has great potential to be developed into real one at the later design phase.

  • This paper empirically examines the short-run and long-run causal relationship between stock market prices and exchange rates in Chinese stock markets using monthly data from January 2002 to December 2012 retrieved from the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China. Unit root, cointegration tests, vector error correction estimates, block exogeneity Wald tests, impulse responses, variance decomposition techniques and structural break tests are employed. This study found 1) long-run causality from exchange rates to stock prices in Chinese stock markets and 2) short-run causality from Japanese yen and Korean won exchange rates to stock prices in the Shanghai Stock Exchange strongly prevails while in the Shenzhen Stock Exchange weakly prevails. The impact of the global financial crisis from 2007 to 2009 on Chinese stock markets was insignificant.

At the same time, the green industry export support becomes important because the export determines the competitiveness of the industry. Most export support systems in the past was a short-tenn basis but the support for green industry should be made in the long-tenn and systematically. Therefore, effective export support system for green industry are suggested in this paper. First, the green industry-related laws should be amended. Second, active technical support and financial support should be available and the restriction for domestic market activation should be removed. Lastly, the information about green protectionism should be provided with effective counterplan. As a result, the Korean green industry can have competitiveness in international markets. and help Korean products improve Korea Premium.

  • Korea has experienced a remarkable economic achievement since the 1960s. However, behind this facade of growth and progress, a chronic housing shortage in the capital region, declining owner-occupation, rising housing costs, and polarization in housing conditions between the better-off and the worse-off clearly illustrate the impasse and crisis in housing that Korea now faces. In addition, the IMF crisis and the late global financial crisis shocked the Korean housing market. The Korean government has made significant policy changes to improve housing security for less-privileged groups. In order to achieve housing policy development, the Korean government has tried to employ of advanced countries. What are the benefits(merits) and dangers(demerits) of housing policy transfer between countries? This paper emphasizes that we must recognize about 'differences' rather than 'commonalities' between countries with respect to policy transfer. It also maintains that the government should play a main role as an enabler rather as a provider of 'low-cost' housing.
