Enhancement of Ozone and Carbon Monoxide Associated with Upper Cut-off Low during Springtime in East Asia

  • In order to verify the enhancement of ozone and carbon monoxide (CO) during springtime in East Asia, we investigated weather conditions and data from remote sensors, air quality models, and air quality monitors. These include the geopotential height archived from the final (FNL) meteorological field, the potential vorticity and the wind velocity simulated by the Meteorological Mesoscale Model 5 (MM5), the back trajectory estimated by the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model, the total column amount of ozone and the aerosol index retrieved from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS), the total column density of CO retrieved from the Measurement of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT), and the concentration of ozone and CO simulated by the Model for Ozone and Related Chemical Tracers (MOZART). In particular, the total column density of CO, which mightoriginate from the combustion of fossil fuels and the burning of biomass in China, increased in East Asia during spring 2000. In addition, the enhancement of total column amounts of ozone and CO appeared to be associated with both the upper cut-off low near 500 hPa and the frontogenesis of a surface cyclone during a weak Asian dust event. At the same time, high concentrations of ozone and CO on the Earth's surface were shown at the Seoul air quality monitoring site, located at the surface frontogenesis in Korea. It was clear that the ozone was invaded by the downward stretched vortex anomalies, which included the ozone-rich airflow, during movement and development of the cut-off low, and then there was the catalytic photochemical reaction of ozone precursors on the Earth's surface during the day. In addition, air pollutants such as CO and aerosol were tracked along both the cyclone vortex and the strong westerly as shown at the back trajectory in Seoul and Busan, respectively. Consequently, the maxima of ozone and CO between the two areas showed up differently because of the time lag between those gases, including their catalytic photochemical reactions together with the invasion from the upper troposphere, as well as the path of their transport from China during the weak Asian dust event.

스크레파 축사에서 배출되는 돈분뇨슬러리 호기성 퇴비화의 환경요인 현장조사 (Field Investigation of Environment Parameter in Aerobic Composting for Pig Slurry at a Scraper System)

  • 본 연구는 스크레파 축사에서 톱밥을 미리 충전하고 주기적으로 돈분뇨슬러리을 투입하는 연속호기성 퇴비화 시스템 공정에서 효율적인 퇴비화 환경요인 지표의 기초자료로 활용하기 위하여 퇴비화 과정 중 온도, 수분, 수분수지 등 환경요인과 최종 퇴비의 이화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 1. 퇴비 발효기간 동안 발효층의 온도가 $50{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ 범위로서 정상적인 온도를 유지하였고, 겨울기간 동안에도 높은 온도를 유지하여 퇴비 발효가 활발하게 진행되었다. 발효조의 높이별 온도는 중간층 온도가 가장 높고 하부층 온도가 가장 낮았으며 두 층간 온도차는 $5{\sim}20^{\circ}C$를 나타내었다. 퇴비발효조의 수분함량이 50%내외일 때 발효조 온도가 $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$로서 정상적인 발효가 일어나지 않았다. 발효조 시설물 내부의 상대습도는 최저 55%에서 최고 88% 범위에 있었다. 따라서 퇴비사의 습한 공기를 제거하기 위한 휀 장치를 설치하는 것이 필요할 것으로 사료된다. 퇴비화 기간 동안 수분수지를 분석한 결과 총 투입 수분의 90%가 증발되는 것으로 산출되었다. 2. 본 연구의 퇴비화 방식은 발효조에 수분조절제인 톱밥을 한 번 투입하고 분뇨를 연속적으로 투입하여 5월 가량 연속적으로 사용이 가능하여 톱밥 $1m^3$으로 돈분뇨슬러리 $3,13m^3$의 퇴비화 처리가 가능하였다. 3. 퇴비화 기간이 약 5개월간 발효를 거치므로 퇴비의 비료성분 함량이 높았으며 탄소함량은 34% 질소 함량은 1.62%를 나타내었고 탄질비는 21을 나타내었다.

과다 체중 감량 환자에서의 허리띠 피부지방절제술의 치험례 (Body Contouring of Breast and Abdomen with Belt Dermolipectomy after Massive Weight Loss: A Case Report)

  • Purpose: Obese proportion is increasing universally, estimating more than a billion. So reducing the weight became one of the topic in medical market. Not only diet, exercise, medication, but also many surgical procedures are being developed, such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass surgery. After massive weight loss, skin excess and laxity occurs, leading to unsatisfying body contour. Body contouring surgery including abdominoplasty, breast reduction is performed when skin excess is present in abdomen and breast. When skin excess is present circumferentially, belt dermolipectomy is the treatment of choice. Methods: A 23-year-old man had weight gain since he was 12 of age. A year before visiting to our department, his height was 168 cm, weight was 150 kg and body mass index (BMI) was 53.15 kg/$m^2$. The patient lost 55 kg of his weight through exercise and diet control. When he visited again, his weight was 95 kg and BMI was 33.66 kg/$m^2$. In physical examination, skin excess and laxity was seen in both breast and abdomen circumferentially and lateral folds were seen in the back. Abdominal contour deformity (Pitman classification type 6) and pseudogynecomastia (grade 3) were present in both breast. Belt dermolipectomy of abdomen, both breast and lateral folds was performed, resecting 6,400 g of tissue and additive 1,200 g through revisional operation. Results: The patient lost 6,500g of his weight and BMI reduced by 2.3 kg/$m^2$. The patient's hospital course was uneventful during 5 weeks of hospitalization and he was satisfied with his final body contour. Conclusion: Body contouring with belt dermolipectomy in patient who has circumferential skin excess and laxity after massive weight loss can be a treatment of choice.

근로자 건강진단시 간기능 이상자의 정밀검사항목 개선을 위한 조사연구 (A Baseline Study on the Choice of Optimal Screening Test Items among Workers with Abnormal Liver Function Tests on Workers' Periodic Health Examination)

  • Workers' periodic health examination is the main tools used to manage the health problems of most workers in Korea. The most common health problem found in workers' periodic health examination is liver disorder. Liver disorder is also one of the most common health problems in general population and one of the leading causes of mortality in adult population. Regulation proposed by government (No. 207, Ministry of Labor, 1992) defines the criteria for selection of workers with the liver dysfunction for further evaluative examination and the examination items used for diagnosis of the workers with liver dysfunction. This study was designed to evaluate the proficiency of each examination items presently defined in Regulation and propose the optimal examination items for detection of the liver disorders found by workers' periodic health examination. Study subjects are 186 workers with abnormal liver function tests in screening examination of workers' periodic health examination. Questionnaire survey including past history of liver disorder, drinking history, height and weight was done. Physical examination by physician, routine test items defined by Regulation (SGOT, SGPT, $\gamma$-GTP, protein, albumin, total and direct bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, $\alpha$-feto protein, HBsAg and anti-HBs), anti-HCV antibody test and liver ultrasonography were done. Results are as follows; 1. Result of evaluative examination utilizing only the items defined in Regulation was; There were 75 workers with suspected live. disorder(40.3%), 63 with no liver dysfunction (33.9%), 13 with suspected hepatitis B(7.0%), 10 workers with hepatitis B(5.4%), 10 workers with hepatitis B carrier state(5.4%), 10 with alcoholic liver disorders(5.4%), 5 with fatty liver(2.7%). When alternative diagnostic criteria applying additional examination items (drinking history, body mass index, anti-HCV antibody and ultrasonography) diagnosability of liver disorder was increased. When all four items were included, final results were; 23 workers (17.8%) with hepatitis B (10 carriers, 13 suspects and 10 hepatitis B), 10 (5.4%) with hepatitis C(4 carriers, 5 suspects and 1 hepatitis C), 13(7.0%) with alcoholic liver disorder, 45(24.2%) with fatty liver (40 suspects, 5 fatty liver), 410%) with suspected liver disorders and 44 (23.7%) with normal liver. 2. Of examination items defined by Regulation, only SGOT, SGPT, $\gamma$-GTP and HBsAg were significantly different in abnormal rate and mean value, and all other laboratory findings did not showed significant difference between two groups. Drinking history, body mass index and anti-HCV antibody test which are the items that authors included in this study, also showed significant difference between two groups. Utilization of body mass index (BMI) for abnormal liver function group in diagnosis of fatty liver had high specificity (97.6%) but sensitivity (22.3%) was low. Therefore we suggest that SGOT, SGPT, $\gamma$-GTP, HBsAg, alcohol drinking history, BMI and anti-HCV Ab were useful for diagnosis of liver disorders among worker's periodic health examination.

Effect of seeding using an avidin-biotin binding system on the attachment of periodontal ligament fibroblasts to nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds: three-dimensional culture

  • Purpose: For periodontal tissue engineering, it is a primary requisite and a challenge to select the optimum types of cells, properties of scaffold, and growth factor combination to reconstruct a specific tissue in its natural form and with the appropriate function. Owing to fundamental disadvantages associated with using a two-dimensional substrate, several methods of seeding cells into three-dimensional scaffolds have been reported and the authors have asserted its usefulness and effectiveness. In this study, we explore the cell attachment of periodontal ligament fibroblasts on nanohydroxyapatite (n-HA) scaffold using avidin biotin binding system (ABBS). Methods: Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were isolated from the health tooth extracted for the purpose of orthodontic procedure. HA nanoparticles were prepared and $Ca(NO_3)_2-_4H_2O$ and $(OC_2H_5)_3P$ were selected as precursors of HA sol. The final scaffold was 8 mm in diameter and 3 mm in height disk with porosity value of 81.55%. $1{\times}10^5$ periodontal ligament fibroblasts were applied to each scaffold. The cells were seeded into scaffolds by static, agitating and ABBS seeding method. Results: The number of periodontal ligament fibroblasts attached was greater for ABBS seeding method than for static or agitating method (P<0.05). No meaningful difference has been observed among seeding methods with scanning electron microscopy images. However, increased strength of cell attachment of ABBS could be deduced from the high affinity between avidin and biotin ($Kd=10^{-15}\;M$). Conclusions: The high-affinity ABBS enhances the ability of periodontal ligament fibroblasts to attach to three-dimensionally constructed n-HA scaffold.

비만여성의 의복치수체계 연구 (A Study of Apparel Sizing System for Korean Obese Women)

  • 본 연구는 20세 이상 비만여성을 위한 의류치수체계를 제안하기 위한 것으로, 2003~2004년 한국인 인체치수조사사업의 원시자료 중 선행연구에 의해 의류학 분야에서 주로 사용되는 비만판정지수 및 비만판정용 측정치 7개 항목(Rohrer지수, Vervaeck지수, BMI, 상대체중, 허리둘레, WHR, 젖가슴둘레) 중 5개 이상의 비만판정도구에서 비만으로 판정된 499명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 치수체계 제안에 앞서 2,212명의 성인여성 전체의 인체치수와 499명의 비만여성의 기초통계치수를 제시한 결과, 키 등의 높이항목 전체와 키와 상관관계가 높은 몇몇 길이항목을 제외한 대부분의 치수항목 즉, 둘레항 목, 두께 및 너비항목 등에서의 인체측정치가 크고, 비만판정지수도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 상의류의 치수체계 제안을 위해 젖가슴둘레, 엉덩이둘레, 키가 기본신체부위로 선정되었으며, 하의류의 치수체계 제안을 위해 허리둘레와 엉덩이둘레가 기본신체부위로 선정되었다. 치수체계 제안을 위한 교차분석표에서 젖가슴둘레, 허리둘레, 엉덩이둘레 등 둘레항목은 3cm 간격과 5cm 간격을 비교하여 제시하였으나 키는 5cm 간격으로만 한정하였다. 두 치수간격 중 보다 높은 커버율과 커버효율을 보이는 치수간격을 선택하고, 사용자의 분포율도 전체 비만여성의 1% 이상, 2% 이상 및 3% 이상으로 나누어 각각의 분포율별로 커버율과 커버효율이 높은 치수구간을 선정하였다. 상의류와 하의류 치수체계 모두에서 3% 이상의 사용자 분포율을 보이는 5cm 치수간격이 가장 높은 커버효율을 나타냈으므로, 이 결과를 바탕으로 상의류를 위한 치수호칭으로 10개, 하의류를 위한 치수호칭으로 9개를 제안하였으며, 각 호칭별로 기본신체부위의 평균 인체측정치와 참고신체부위의 평균 인체측정치를 제공하여 호칭별 의류제품의 설계에 기초자료로 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

철 및 망간코팅사를 분리 충진시킨 파일럿 여과시스템에 의한 3가 비소 제거 (Removal of As(III) by Pilot-Scale Filtration System Separately Packed with Iron-Coated Sand and Manganese-Coated Sand)

  • 망간코팅모래(MCS)와 철코팅모래(ICS) 21.5 kg씩 동량을 하부 및 상부층으로 2단 충진시킨 파일럿 규모의 여과시스템을 구성하여 3가 비소 함유 인공오염수 처리효율을 조사하였다. 파일럿 장치는 높이 200 cm와 내경 15 cm로 구성되어 있으며, 3가 비소함유 인공 오염수의 반응기 칼럼내 유입은 peristaltic pump를 사용하여 선속도 $5{\times}10^{-3}$ cm/s로 상향류로 시켰으며 148일 동안 여과실험을 실시하였다. MCS 통과지점(중간유출수)과 ICS 통과지점(최종 유출수)에서의 총 비소의 파과는 각각 18일 및 44일 경과 후에 이루어졌고 그 이후 파과가 급격히 진행되었으며 148일이 지났을 때 완전파과가 발생하였다. 비록 MCS 층을 통과한 유출수에서의 총 비소파과는 18일 경과 후에 나타났지만 유출수내의 3가 비소 농도는 61일 동안 50 ppb 이하로 나타났으며 이후에는 급격히 증가되어 나타났다. 이것은 칼럼에 충진된 MCS가 61일 동안 효과적으로 3가 비소에 대한 산화력을 나타내기 때문에 기인한 것이며 MCS 1 kg당 3가 비소 92 mg을 산화처리 함을 나타낸다. 그리고 완전파과가 발생할 때 까지 MCS에 의해서 흡착된 총 비소의 양은 MCS 단위 kg 당 79.0 mg에 해당하였다. 운전기간 동안 반응탑내의 각 지점에서의 시간에 따른 수두의 변화는 크게 나타나지 않아서 ICS 및 MCS를 갖춘 여과시스템은 큰 수두손실 없이 오염수를 장기간 처리할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Spontaneous bone regeneration after surgical extraction of a horizontally impacted mandibular third molar: a retrospective panoramic radiograph analysis

  • Background: The mandibular third molar (M3) is typically the last permanent tooth to erupt because of insufficient space and thick soft tissues covering its surface. Problems such as alveolar bone loss, development of a periodontal pocket, exposure of cementum, gingival recession, and dental caries can be found in the adjacent second molars (M2) following M3 extraction. The specific aims of the study were to assess the amount and rate of bone regeneration on the distal surface of M2 and to evaluate the aspects of bone regeneration in terms of varying degree of impaction. Methods: Four series of panoramic radiographic images were obtained from the selected cases, including images from the first visit, immediately after extraction, 6 weeks, and 6 months after extraction. ImageJ software® (NIH, USA) was used to measure linear distance from the region of interest to the distal root of the adjacent M2. Radiographic infrabony defect (RID) values were calculated from the measured radiographic bone height and cementoenamel junction with distortion compensation. Repeated measures of analysis of variance and one-way analysis of variance were conducted to analyze the statistical significant difference between RID and time, and a Spearman correlation test was conducted to assess the relationship between Pederson's difficulty index (DI) and RID. Results: A large RID (> 6 mm) can be reduced gradually and consistently over time. More than half of the samples recovered nearly to their normal healthy condition (RID ≤ 3 mm) by the 6-month follow-up. DI affected the first 6 weeks of post-extraction period and only showed a significant positive correlation with respect to the difference between baseline and final RID. Conclusions: Additional treatments on M2 for a minimum of 6 months after an M3 extraction could be recommended. Although DI may affect bone regeneration during the early healing period, further study is required to elucidate any possible factors associated with the healing process. The DI does not cause any long-term adverse effects on bone regeneration after surgical extraction.

토목섬유로 보강된 성토지지말뚝 시스템의 반복하중 전이 메커니즘 분석 (Analysis of Cyclic Loading Transferred Mechanism on Geosynthetic-Reinforced and Pile-Supported Embankment)

  • 토목섬유를 보강한 성토지지말뚝(GRPS) 공법은 연약지반 상부에 건설되는 성토구조물의 잔류침하를 억제하고, 공사기간을 단축할 수 있는 방법으로 그 적용성이 확대되고 있다. 이에, 세계 각국에서는 다양한 연구를 통해 설계방법을 제안해왔지만, 동적하중을 고려한 시스템의 거동은 확실하게 규명되지 않은 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 섬유보강 지지말뚝 성토체내의 동적하중 전이 특성을 분석하기 위하여 실물크기의 시스템을 조성한 후, 반복재하 실험을 수행하였다. 실험은 토목섬유를 설치하지 않은 무보강, 토목섬유를 1겹 설치한 보강, 2겹 설치한 보강을 조건으로 총 3가지 경우로 나누어 진행하였다. 말뚝과 토목섬유 상부에 각각 하중계를 설치하여 반복재하 횟수에 따른 수직하중을 측정한 결과, 토목섬유의 보강효과를 제외하고 아칭효과에 의해서만 전이되는 반복하중은 오히려 인장력이 큰 토목섬유로 보강할수록 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. 그러나 최종 말뚝으로 전달되는 반복하중의 크기는 토목섬유를 보강하지 않은 경우와 1겹, 2겹 보강한 경우에서 모두 비슷한 것으로 평가되었다. 이는 토목섬유의 보강이 말뚝으로 집중되는 하중을 증가시킨다는 기존의 연구와는 상반된 결과로, 이를 바탕으로 반복하중 전이 메커니즘의 상관관계를 분석하고자한다 또한, 반복하중 재하 초기 말뚝으로의 하중전달 효과가 감소하는 경향이 보였으며, 이는 반복하중에 의한 아칭효과 감소에서 기인한 것으로 판단된다.

Comparison of autogenous tooth bone graft and synthetic bone graft materials used for bone resorption around implants after crestal approach sinus lifting: a retrospective study

  • Purpose: This retrospective study compares the amount of bone resorption around implants between an autogenous tooth bone graft (AutoBT) and a synthetic bone graft after a bone-added crestally approached sinus lift with simultaneous implant placements. Methods: In all, 37 patients participated in this study. Seventeen patients were grouped as group I and underwent an AutoBT-added sinus lift using the crestal approach. The remaining 20 patients were grouped as group II and underwent synthetic bone grafting. Both groups received the implant placements simultaneously. Of the 37 participating patients, only 22 patients were included in the final results: Eleven patients of group I and 11 patients of group II. Before the surgery, the distance from the alveolar crest to the sinus floor was measured using panoramic radiography. After the surgery, the distance was measured again from the neck of the implant thread to the most superior border of the added graft materials. Then, the amount of sinus lift was calculated by comparing the two panoramic radiographs. After a year, a panoramic radiograph was taken to calculate the resorption of the bone graft material from the radiograph that was taken after the surgery. The significance of the resorption amount between the two types of graft materials was statistically analyzed. Results: The bone height was increased to an average of 4.89 mm in group I and 6.22 mm in group II. The analysis of panoramic radiographs 1 year after the surgery showed an average bone resorption of 0.76 mm and 0.53 mm, respectively. However, the degree of lifting (P=0.460) and the amount of bone-grafted material resorption (P=0.570) showed no statistically significant difference. Conclusions: Based on this limited study, AutoBT can be considered a good alternative bone graft to a synthetic bone graft in a bone-added sinus lift, when extraction is necessary prior to the surgery.
