Aim: To study the causes and significance of both microscopic and macroscopic haematuria in adult patients and assess possible relevance to early detection of urological cancers. Methods: 417 patients presenting with haematuria were assessed in our Urology Unit. Following confirmation of haematuria, these patients were subjected to imaging techniques and flexible cystoscopy. Parameters analysed included clinical characteristics, imaging results, flexible cystoscopy findings, time delay to diagnoses and eventual treatment and final diagnoses of all cases. Results: 390 haematuria cases were analysed from 417 consecutive patients with haematuria. After 27 cases were excluded as they had previous history, 245 microscopic and 145 macroscopic. Age range was 17 to 95 years old with predominance of 152 females to 239 males. The racial distribution included 180 Chinese, 100 Indians,95 Malays and 15 other races. The final diagnoses were benign prostatic hyperplasia (22.6%), no cause found (22.3%), other causes (18.7%), urolithiasis (11.5%), urinary tract infection UTI (10.8%), non specific cystitis (10.3%), bladder tumours (2.8%) and other genitourinary tumours (1%). 11 new cases (2.8%) of bladder cancers were diagnosed, with a mean age of 59 years. Only 3 of 245 (1.2%) patients with microscopic haematuria had newly diagnosed bladder tumour compared with 8 of 145 (5.5%) patients with frank haematuria (p=0.016). Mean time taken from onset of symptoms to diagnosis of bladder cancer was 53.3 days with definitive treatment (TURBT) in 20.1 days from diagnosis. Conclusion:- This study has highlighted the common causes of haematuria in our local setting. We recommend that full and appropriate investigations be carried out on patients with frank haematuria especially those above 50 years old in order to provide earlier detection and prompt management of bladder diseases especially tumours.
Purpose - This study aims to explore women's beauty industry market and growth development by identifying the main factors of women's perception of skin health care. Research design, data, and methodology - The survey was conducted on women aged 20 to 60 living in Seoul. For the statistical analysis, frequency analysis, t-test and one-way ANOVA were conducted, and significant differences in p<0.05 were tested through the multiple range test of the Scheffe. The factor analysis was conducted to verify the validity of questions, and the reliability was determined by the coefficient of Cronbach's α. Results - The lower the age, the higher the perception of the skin, and women pay a higher price for skin health as a provisional customer. 'Acne care' was the most common skin condition (32.8%), 'life style' (79.8%) was the most important part of skin care. Final education was the highest level of skin care for women with a professional background (M=3.41) (F=4.028, p<.05). Conclusions - The differences in the recognition of health knowledge by age, marital status, and household monthly income were significant, but there was no difference between jobs and final education. Customers who use less skin care than customers who frequently use the skin care center were more aware of skin health, and women who have a high awareness of skin are more interested in aging and regenerating due to the skin care.
In the definitive hosts, metacercariae of Parofonimn westermani excyst in host duodenum, penetrate intestinal wall, migrate peritoneal and thoracic cavities, and develop to sexual maturity in 8 weeks. This study was undertaken to examine the age of the maturing p. westernnni when their infectivity to the other definitive hosts was retained. On 3, 7, 10, 14,21 and 28 days after feeding the metacercariae to cats through a gastric tube, the developing worms were harvested. The juveniles of different age were fed again to other experimental cats. One to 12 weeks after the oral-transfer infections, the experimental cats were examined for establishment of infections. In the cats to which 3- day and 7-day old juveniles (grown up to 1.4 mm long) were fed, 31.4% and 22.6% of the transferred worms were found infected. The worms of 10-28 days old were not infective. Early maturing stages grown up to 7 days maintained their infectivity to the other definitive hosts.

Objective: This study was to evaluate the sunflower cake and enzymatic complex fed to broilers from 22 to 42 d of age. Methods: In a completely randomized design, a total of 850 birds were allotted in a $2{\times}5$ factorial scheme (with and without enzymatic complex) and five inclusion levels (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) of sunflower cake. There were 5 replications and 17 birds in each experimental unit. Data from performance, carcass yield and intestinal morphology were evaluated. Results: Feed intake, weight gain, final weight and feed:gain ratio linearly worsened as sunflower cake increased. For weight gain, final weight and feed:gain ratio, the birds whose diets contained levels of 15% and 20% of sunflower cake showed worse values (p<0.05) than the birds fed the control diet. When fed the enzymatic complex, birds improved (p<0.05) crypt depth and villus:crypt ratio in the jejunum. As inclusion levels of sunflower cake increased, villus depth and villus:crypt ratio in duodenum, jejunum and ileum linearly reduced and the crypt depth linearly increased. Carcass yield linearly reduced as sunflower cake increased. Conclusion: Based on performance, sunflower cake can be used up to 10% in broilers feeding from 21 to 42 days of age.
The purpose of this study was to assess the results of arthroscopic subacromial decompression in patients with chronic impingement and to evaluate the results according to the rotator cuff pathology. We evaluated the clinical results of treatment for chronic impingement syndrome in 28 patients from Feb 1996 to Feb 1997. There were twenty men and eight women in age from 24 to 72 years (mean age 51) with dominant arm involvement in sixteen patients. Follow up evaluations averaged 15(range 12-24)months. The average duration of symptoms were 15(range 660)months. The final diagnoses which were based on the physical examination, plain radiographs and arthroscopic findings, were stage II impingement in 16 patients and stage ill impingement in 12 patients. We excluded the patients with acromioclavicular arthritis or glenohumeral instability in this study. All patients were managed non-operatively a minimum of six months. During the operation we performed contouring and smoothing the acromial undersurface and only resecting of the anterolateral band of the coracoacromial ligament. The clinical results were quantitated using UCLA shoulder rating score. Satisfactory results were obtained in 23(80%) patients. Unsatisfactory results were obtained in 5(18%) patients with posterior cuff tear. The average UCLA pain score showed significant improvement from 2.8(constant pain) to 7.2(present during heavy activities) at final follow up. The function and active forward flexion scores also increased from their preoperative value. There was no significant differences according to the surface and severity of tear and NeeI' stage (P>0.05). These results compared favorably with those reported following open acromioplasty. While arthroscopic subacromial decompression is a demanding technique with a learning curve, it is a reliable treatment for chronic impingement syndrome. A less aggressive approach to subacromial decompression and preserving the posteromedial band of the coracoacromialligament does not appear to compromise results.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of a Korean Medicine Treatment on 45 facial atopic dermatitis patients. Methods : Total 45 facial atopic dermatitis patients, who has visited korean medical clinic in year 2011 were analyzed by Objective SCORAD Index(OSI) and Investigator's Global Assessment(IGA). Subanalysis of OSI and IGA were done according to topical ointment user/non-user, treatment period and change in IGA distribution. Results : 1. Male and female percent was 20%:80%. 17.8% were teens, 55.6% were twenties, 13.3% were thirties, 13.3% were above age forty. 64.4% were on topical ointment treatment of corticosteroid or calcineurin inhibitor, and 35.6% were not at the initial visit. Patients with family history were 44.4% and 62.2% had atopic dermatitis past history. 2. OSI and IGA were significantly lower after 1~3, 3~6, 6~9 month of treatment. Average post-treatment score was lower in longer-treated group. 3. IGA distribution has changed from average 3.42 at the first visit to 1.76 at final visit. 91.1% of total patients reported decrease in IGA at the final visit. 4. OSI and IGA improvement rate were significantly higher in non-topical ointment user than the user. Age, treatment period, initial OSI and IGA score difference were not significantly different. Conclusion : A significant percent of 45 facial atopic dermatitis patients who were treated with Korean Medicine Treatment reported decrease in OSI and IGA. The difference increased with the treatment period. Non-topical ointment users' improvement was significantly higher than topical ointment user.
Purpose: Parenteral nutrition (PN) not only provides nutritional support but also plays a crucial role in the treatment of children with intestinal failure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance and clinical outcomes of long-term PN. Methods: Retrospective cohort study was conducted using the medical records of patients treated at Seoul National University Children's Hospital. This study included 19 patients who received PN for over six months. Most patients received home PN. Results: The indications for PN included short bowel syndrome, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, and intractable diarrhea of infancy. The median age of PN initiation was 1.3 years, and the median treatment duration was 2.9 years. Two patients were weaned from PN; 14 continued to receive PN with enteral feedings; and 3 patients died. The overall survival rates at 2 and 5 years were 93.3% and 84.0%, respectively. The incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infections was 2.7/1,000 catheter-days and was associated with younger age at PN initiation and lower initial height Z-score. Six patients developed catheter-related central vein thrombosis, with an incidence of 0.25/1,000 catheter-days. Eleven patients experienced PN-associated liver disease (PNALD), and one patient underwent multi-visceral transplant. The patients with PNALD exhibited lower final heights and body weight Z-scores. All patients experienced micronutrient deficiencies transiently while receiving PN. Conclusion: PN is an important and safe treatment for pediatric intestinal failure. PNALD was linked to final anthropometric poor outcomes. Micronutrient deficiencies were common. Anthropometric measurements and micronutrient levels must be monitored for successful PN completion.
This study is for finding out the relationship between reactions on POP per consumer purchase trends and major factor for making final purchasing decisions after being exposed to POP from large supermarkets. The following results were obtained after the research. First, consumers displayed higher reaction scores on End-Cap in general among POP advertisements. The factors for making final purchase decision are in the order of function > price > brand for household electrical goods, price > design > function for sundry goods and design > price > function for clothing (including bedding). Second, the results of analyzing the differences based on age on impulsive purchase showed that the lower the age the higher the tendency. Unplanned purchase trend also showed higher when younger. The results of this study showed that there are discrepancies in the theory related with existing POP advertisements, that is, the theory that impulsive purchasers have higher POP responses.

Objectives: This study aims to examine hypertension patients' quality of life by using the data of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1st year, 2016), identify the factors related to this, and utilize the results as basic data for intervention that can improve hypertension patients' quality of life. Methods: For the research subjects, this study extracted 1,531 patients who were diagnosed with hypertension by a doctor from the total sample of 8,150 participants of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and selected 1,072 patients with no missing value in the variables to be analyzed as the final research subjects. The SPSS(version25.0) program was used for the analysis of the collected data. Then, this study used a backward elimination multiple regression analysis method that applied complex sample, to examine the factors related with the finally estimated quality of life. Results: The results of this study revealed that hypertension patients' quality of life was related with age, occupation, spouse, household income, weight gain, restriction of activity, subjected health status, perceived stress, and presence of comorbidity. The final model explained 37.0% of the variance (Wald F=30.012 p<.001). Conclusions: When an intervention program is implemented for the improvement of hypertension patients' quality of life in the future, it will be effective to construct the program according to age group, employment, marital status and household income. As for the program operation, patients should get help therefrom to control weight, facilitate activities and relieve their stress, and they should be also motivated to feel healthy. Furthermore, education should be offered so that they appropriately manage their underlying disease at an early stage.
One hundred ninety-five countries reached agreement on a new climate treaty in Paris, France to reduce the carbon emissions. South Korea has been selected as a target country for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) obligations since 2020. In this context, the Korean government developed several GHG emissions reduction programs using forests called the "Forest carbon offset scheme (FCOS)." The forest management method is one of the tools to implement FCOS. Most of the participants registered forest management as the preferred methodology to participate in the FCOS. For a successful implementation of the FCOS, it is necessary to explore the optimal methods by considering the cost-effective aspect of conducting the forest management as a tool to increase carbon absorption. In this context, this study investigated the value optimized FCOS projects based on the forest management methodology in South Korea. Three forest management scenarios, 1) extending the final age of maturity of Pinus densiflora stands (S1), 2) extending the final age of maturity of Quercus acutissima stands (S2), and 3) reforestation with new species (Pinus densiflora to Quercus acutissima) (S3), were examined and evaluated to identify the optimal carbon absorption and value optimized economic perspective. The results of the scenario-based modelling indicated that S3 showed value optimized from an economical perspective, and S2 was the most effective method to absorb carbon among the scenarios. It is anticipated that this paper will contribute to provide valuable information by presenting innovative approaches as a value optimized FCOS implementing tool in a GHG reduction program in South Korea.
