Influence on centrifugal force control in a self-driven oil purifier

  • The use of lubrication oil is of many purposes and one among them is to drive the engine mounted on a ship. Hence the supply of clean lubrication oil is important. And an oil purifier is one of key components in marine diesel engines. At present, the element type full-flow oil filter has been widely used for cleaning the engine oil. The self-driven centrifugal oil purifier is a device which is used to remove the impurities in lubrication oil using a jet flow. The flow characteristics and the physical behaviors of particles in this self-driven oil purifier were investigated numerically and the filtration efficiencies were evaluated. For calculations, a Computational Fluid Dynamics method is used and the Shear Stress Transport turbulence model has been adopted. The Multi Frames of Reference method is used to consider the rotating effect of the flows. The influence of centrifugal forcehas been numerically investigatedto improve filtration efficiency of tiny particles. As a result of this research, it was found that the particle filtration efficiency using the only center axis rotating and outer wall rotating system are higher than that of the fully rotating system in the self-driven oil purifier.

  • A laboratory-scale electrodewatering system for enhancing conventional filter pressure dewatering by an electric field has been developed to decrease the water content of sludge generated in the wastewater treatment. It consists of a piston-typed filter press, a power supply and data acquisition system. The offset of electrodewatering is investigated as a function of applied pressure, applied voltage, sludge type and filtration time. Also the optimal conditions for maximizing the dewatering efficiency in the eletrodewatering system are investigated. Electric field strength and mechanical pressure are in the range of from 0 to 120 V/cm and from 98.1 to 392.4 kPa. The dewatering rates increased with increasing electric strength. These experiments produced a final sludge cake with water content of 60 wt% using electrodewatering technology, compared with a 80 wt% using pressure filtration alone. The conventional filtration system using the electrodewatering shows the potential to be effective method for improving dewatering Sludge.

Pilot Scale Assessment of DOC and THMs Removal in Conventional Water Treatment System

  • This research aims to investigate the behavior of organic matter that causes bacterial re-growth and the formation of disinfectant by-products such as THM in water treatment, and to optimize conditions for a more efficient and conventional water facility. THM removed 51 % and 12 % through coagulation/sedimentation and filtration using a selected conventional system. In this experiment, the removal ratio of DOC was highest at 68 % when the Gt value was 42,000 and lowest at 41 % when the Gt value was 30,000. 77-84 % of total DOC was removed during coagulation/sedimentation, and 15-23 % was removed during filtration. When Gt values were between 30,000 and 66,000, over 50 % of high molecular matter above 10 K during coagulation/sedimentation was removed. Turbidity removed 98 % when the G1 value was 66,000. As the Gt value increased, the turbidity removal ratio increased. Turbidity removed over 20 % during the filtration process.

여과-Plasma 공정을 이용한 Ralstonia Solanacearum 불활성화 (Inactivation of Ralstonia Solanacearum using Filtration-Plasma Process)

  • For the field application of dielectric barrier discharge plasma reactor in nutrient solution culture, a filtration-DBD (dielectric barrier discharge) plasma reactor was investigated for the Ralstonia solanacearum which causes bacterial wilt in aquiculture. The filtration-DBD plasma reactor system of this study was consisted of filter, plasma reactor, reservoir. The DBD plasma reactor consisted of a quartz dielectric tube, discharge electrode (inner) and ground electrode (outer). The experimental results showed that the inactivation of R. solanacearum with filter media type in filter reactor ranked in the following order: anthracite > fiber ball > sand > ceramic ball > quartz ceramic. In filtration + plasma process, disinfection effect with the voltage was found to small. In disinfection time of 120 minutes, residual R. solanacearum concentration was 1.17 log (15 CFU/mL). When the continuous disinfection time was 120 minute, disinfection effect was thought to keep the four days. In sporadic operation mode of 30 minutes disinfection - 24 hours break, residual R. solanacearum concentration after five days was 0.3 log (2 CFU/mL). It is considered that most of R. solanacearum has been inactivated substantially.

사료 부원료 하역과정에서 발생하는 비산먼지의 여과특성 (Filtration Characteristics of the Fugitive Dust Emitting from Animal Feedstuff Handling)

  • Animal feedstuff handling is one of the major fugitive dust sources in the port of Incheon. For the effective control of fugitive dusts emitting from the port of Incheon, dust control facilities with bag filter systems should be designed properly considering the characteristic of the fugitive dusts including those from animal feedstuffs. The ultimate goal of this study is thus to develop the optimum fugitive dust control system which will be applicable for the renovation of the port. As the first step to achieve this longstanding goal, filtration characteristics of soybean shell, the largest dust sources in the port, were investigated with the specially designed filter testing apparatus for this study. The variables tested for the experiments included filter materials, dust concentrations, relative humidities, and filtration velocities. Also, the filtration characteristics of the other animal feedstuffs such as sunflower seed shell, tapioca, and palm shell were investigated to determine $K_2$ as a function of filtration velocity. The information on $K_2$ will be used to design the optimum bag filter systems for animal feedstuffs handling in the port.

급속여과지(急速濾過池)의 여과속도(濾過速度)와 여재구성(濾材構成)의 연구(硏究) -여과저항(濾過抵抗)을 중심(中心)으로- (A Study on the Velocity, the Grain Size and the Bed Depth of the Rapid Filter)

  • 지금까지 발표되어 있는 여과공정(濾過工程)의 수학적(數學的) 해석(解析)의 결과(結果)는 범용성(汎用性)이 없고 실용적(實用的)으로 이용(利用)될 수 없는 문제점(問題點)이 있었다. 그러나 여과공정(濾過工程)을 수학적(數學的)으로 표현(表現)하는 것은 장치설계상(裝置設計上) 대단히 중요하기 때문에 본논문(本論文)은 급속여과지(急速濾過池)의 여과공정(濾過工程)을 해명(解明)하기 위하여 여층내(濾層內)의 tracer study의 결과(結果)를 정리한 것이다. 따라서 여과공정(濾過工程)을 해명(解明)하기 위해서 최대(最大)의 문제점(問題點)으로 되어 있던 억류물비퇴적량(抑留物比堆積量)을 직접(直接) 파악(把握)하는 것에 의해 Kozeny-Carman 식(式)을 보정(補正)하여 실제에 활용(活用)될 수 있는 미소여층(微小濾層)의 여과지저항식(濾過紙抵抗式)을 유도(誘導)하였다. 또 조지율(阻止率)과 비퇴적량(比堆積量)과의 상관(相關) model을 제안(提案)하고 이것을 이용(利用)해서 여과방정식(濾過方程式)을 풀고 그 값을 유도(誘導)한 여과저항식(濾過抵抗式)에 대입(對入)하여 전여층(全濾層)의 여과저항(濾過抵抗)을 구(求)하고 그 결과(結果)를 도표화(圖表化)함으로서 여과저항식(濾過抵抗式)을 이론(理論)과 실용(實用) 양면(兩面)에 넓게 활용(活用)될 수 있도록 하였다.

인라인 주입방식의 최초응집이 케이크 저항에 미치는 영향 (Effect of cake resistance by first-aggregation of in-line injection system)

  • Cake resistance is influenced by floc size deposited on membrane surface. Enlarging floc size can reduce cake resistance. The small particles are enlarged by coagulation and flocculation process in conventional mixing tank at membrane filtration system. Fully-grown flocs for reducing the cake resistance, however, are ruptured while passing through a pump. In light of this fact, this study aims to experimentally look at the reaggregation phenomenon of mixing system. In addition, reaggregation phenomenon of mixing system is compared with first-aggregation of in-line injection system in which coagulant is injected just before a pump. These results suggest that first-aggregation of in-line injection system is better than reaggregation of mixing system for G-value above $3100sec^{-1}$. Since G-value in pipe of actual membrane filtration system are usually larger than $3100sec^{-1}$. The performance of in-line injection system is expected to be better than the conventional mixing tank system.

처리수 재이용을 위한 최종침전지 유출수의 급속여과공정 처리특성 (Treatment Characteristics of Rapid filtration Process treating Secondary Clarifier Effluent for Wastewater Reuse)

  • 하수 처리수의 재이용을 위하여 표준활성슬러지법에 의한 생물학적 처리 후 최종침전지 유출수를 급속여과공정으로 처리하기 위한 Pilot Plant 실험연구가 수행되었다. 또한, 활성슬러지와 연계된 급속여과공정과 포기조 후단에 응집제를 주입하는 활성슬러지 이후 급속여과 처리하는 공정과의 비교 실험도 행해졌다. 최종침전지 유출수를 급속여과공정으로 처리한 경우 여과속도는 100m/day, 여과지속시간은 40시간 이하로 운전하는 것이 타당한 것으로 나타났으며, 여과지의 역세척 주기는 여과속도 100m/day일 때 40시간에 1회 정도가 되었다. 여과지 역세척 시 역세척 방법은 공세 1분, 공세+수세 30초, 수세 1분, 공세·수세 2분, 수세 3분, 안정 30초, 배수 10분의 순으로 행하는 것이 효과적이었으며, 수세속도는 10LPM으로 전체 여과수량의 2%정도였다. 표준활성슬러지 시스템에 의한 2차 처리수를 잡용수로 재이용 하기 위해서는 폭기조 후단에 응집제를 첨가하여 여과 공정을 후속공정으로 하는 시스템으로 유용하게 사용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

모래여과를 이용한 도시하천유지용수의 MBAS 제거 효율 평가 (An Assessment on Efficiency of MBAS Removal in Urban Stream Maintenance Water by Using Sand Filtration)

  • 우리나라 대부분의 하수처리장에서는 영양염류 및 MBAS의 제거를 위하여 생물학적 고도처리시설과 모래여과시설을 설치하여 운영하고 있다. 그러나 미처리된 영양염류 및 합성세제가 수계에 그대로 유입되어 하천에 사상성부착조류의 발생 및 하천의 자정작용을 방해하여 물에서의 이 취미 발생과 거품 때문에 미관상 불쾌하여 하수처리수를 도시하천유지용수로 재이용하는 G 하수처리장을 실험 대상으로 하여 모래여과시설에 대한 MBAS 제거효율을 파악하고자 본 연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 모래여과를 이용한 MBAS의 최대 제거 효율은 24시간이 지난 후에 63% 정도로 나타났고 특히, 2시간 내지 4시간이 경과한 후의 MBAS 제거 효율도 30% 정도로 그 효과는 아주 적은 것으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 모래여과를 이용한 MBAS 제거는 여과지속시간이 장시간 소요되어 시설부지의 대규모화 등 경제성이 부족하고 제거 효율도 거의 기대에 미치지 못하여 앞으로 하수처리수를 하천유지용수로 재이용하는 하천에서는 MBAS 제거를 위해서는 모래여과시설보다는 다른 공법의 연구와 대책이 필요할 것으로 판단되었다.
