  • Simulation of the target-scattered echo requires the understanding of scattering mechanism at the highlight points. In this paper, the basic assumption of Highlight Model is reviewed through the analyzed data obtained in the acoustic water tank experiment. The analysis shows that the scattering mechanism involves pulse elongation and frequency shift as elements of target-scattered echo, and that the internal structures affect the temporal response of the target-scattered echo significantly. The band-limited impulse response or Green's function due to the diffraction from highlight points of internal structures is not mere delta function, but acts like a filter, which causes frequency shift and is elongated in time.

  • In this study, we used byte-inversion transmission method to prevent the flicker of lighting source in a visible light data communication link. In the transmitter, the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal with 9.6 kbps was on-off keying (OOK) modulated with a 100 kHz square wave carrier and byte-inversion signal was added after each byte to make the average optical power of the light-emitting diode (LED) constant. In the receiver, we used a band-pass filter to eliminate the interference of the 120 Hz noise which was induced from the adjacent light lamps, and an OOK demodulator to recover the original NRZ signal This scheme is useful in constructing wireless data networks using the illumination of visible light lamps.

  • An RF energy detector for spectrum sensing in TV white space transceiver is presented. It is based on an RF active filtering technique that comprises a low-noise amplifier with a frequency-translation high-pass filtering feedfoward loop, which attenuates the unwanted sideband energy and only passes the wanted band energy. Unlike the conventional architecture, a new architecture that can attenuate both sidebands at the same time is proposed. A simplified system modeling method is presented to assess the non-ideality effects on the RF energy detector performances. System behavioral simulations demonstrate that the proposed architecture can be instrumental for realizaing a RF energy detector circuit in CMOS.

  • In this paper, a fourth-order single-bit delta-sigma modulator is presented and implemented. The loop-filter is composed of both feedback and feedforward paths. Measurement results show that maximum 99dB dynamic range is achievable at a clock rate of 3.2MHz for 20kHz baseband. The proposed modulator has been fabricated in a $0.18{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process.

  • The elliptic functions have transmission zeros on the imaginary axis and exhibit equal ripples in the stopband as well as in the passband. As a consequence they can be made optimal in the sense that the transition band is minimal. However the time domain behaviors turned out to be inferior to those of Chebyshev and Butterworth responses. This paper investigates the unit step responses and impulse responses in order to analyze the effects of various parameters such as passband attenuation, stopband frequencies M. etc., The following are the prominent features. Step responses of elliptic filters rise faster and produce larger overshoots and undershoots with higher natural frequencies. In the case of even functions, the initial values are non-zero which decreases as $\omega$s increases. Unlike Butter-worth or Chebyshev cases the impulse responses start with nonzero valses which also decrease as $\omega$s or order of the function increases. Eight figures are included to illustrate above analysis.

  • This paper describes a method to estimate the noise power using the minimum statistics approach, which was originally proposed for audio processing. The proposed minimum statistics-based method separates a noisy image into multiple frequency bands using the three-level discrete wavelet transform. By assuming that the output of the high-pass filter contains both signal detail and noise, the proposed algorithm extracts the region of pure noise from the high frequency band using an appropriate threshold. The region of pure noise, which is free from the signal detail part and the DC component, is well suited for minimum statistics condition, where the noise power can be extracted easily. The proposed algorithm reduces the computational load significantly through the use of a simple processing architecture without iteration with an estimation accuracy greater than 90% for strong noise at 0 to 40dB SNR of the input image. Furthermore, the well restored image can be obtained using the estimated noise power information in parametric image restoration algorithms, such as the classical parametric Wiener or ForWaRD image restoration filters. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the noise power accurately, and is particularly suitable for fast, low-cost image restoration or enhancement applications.

  • In this paper, a Balun-BPF with the balun and BPF characteristics is proposed by using dual-mode ring resonator of $1{\lambda}$. We obtained the property of balun with the phase imbalance by symmetrically placing each output of ring resonator. The dual mode has been made by impedance difference between input and output lines. The fabricated Balun-BPF shows bandwidth of 40 MHz and insertion loss of 2.4 dB at a center frequency of 2.45 GHz. It shows the phase imbalance of $180{\sim}184$ degree and the magnitude imbalance of within 1 dB. The measured frequency responses agree well with simulated ones.

  • In this paper, the fractal shape is applied to microstrip band pass filters and integrated on a high-resistivity Si substrate to solve conventional $2^{nd}$ harmonic problem. Conventional microstrip coupled line filters are popular in RF front ends, because they can be easily fabricated and integrated with other RF components. However, they typically have large second harmonics that can cause unwanted interference in interested frequency bands. Without any additional filters, the proposed Koch shape filters have suppressed the $2^{nd}$ harmonics by about -40 dB, so they can be used in systems such as direct conversion receiver with stringent harmonic suppression requirements.

  • In this study, a visual sensor system for weld seam tracking the I-butt weld joints in GMA welding was constructed. The sensor system consists of a CCD camera, a diode laser with a cylindrical lens and a band-pass-filter to overcome the degrading of image due to spatters and arc light. In order to obtain the enhanced image, quantitative relationship between laser intensity and iris opening was investigated. Throughout the repeated experiments, the shutter speed was set at 1/1000 second for minimizing the effect of spatters on the image, and therefore the image without the spatter traces could be obtained. Region of interest was defined from the entire image and gray level of the searched laser stripe was compared to that of weld line. The differences between these gray levels lead to spot the position of weld joint using central difference method. The results showed that, as long as weld line is within $\pm15^{o}$ from the longitudinal straight line, the system constructed in this study could track the weld line successfully. Since the processing time is no longer than 0.05 sec, it is expected that the developed method could be adopted to high speed welding such as laser welding.

  • In TLM method, Discrete Green's function ABC have been used when improved the exactness of analyzing in wide frequency band. But this technology has a complicated process to apply absorbing boundary, which means it needs additional numerical analyzing process to obtain discrete Green's function data. so, In this paper, we propose new Green's absorbing layer for simple process to apply absorbing boundary. newly proposed Green's absorbing layer is produced by applying of loss operation, loading discrete Green's function with attenuation. A state of optimum absorbing would be obtained by relation between increasing rate of loss, attenuation constant and length of green's absorbing layer. and then Analysts of waveguide BPF is carried out using Green's absorbing layer within state of optimum absorbing, then this result is in corrective agreement with the result applying traditional discrete Green's function ABC.
