  • Requirements for Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks(DMCN) differ greatly from those of typical data networks. Specifically, my DMCN technology which employs a filedbus protocol is different from IP network protocol TCP/IP. In general, one needs to integrate fieldbus protocol and TCP/IP to realize DMCN over IP network or internet, which can be viewed as Virtual Device Network(VDN). Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of predictive maintenance(PM). This paper suggests a basic framework for VDN using DMCN over IP network and a method to guarantee interoperability between devices and equipments.

  • This paper experimentally validates the efficacy of scheduling method that satisfies the performance requirement of periodic data in the Foundation Fieldbus. The scheduling method allocates periodic data traffic to a bandwidth-limited fieldbus medium. The scheduling method generates schedule list that records schedule starting time and schedule period of each periodic data. This study developed an experimental model of a Foundation Fieldbus network system. Using the experimental model, this study showed that the scheduling method can be easily implemented in a practical Foundation Fieldbus network system. The results obtained from the experimental evaluation showed that the scheduling method restricts the delay of periodic data to a pre-specified bound.

  • Requirements for device control networks differ greatly from those of data (business) networks. Consequently, any control network which uses a filedbus protocol is, in general, different from If network protocol TCP/IP. One then needs to integrate both fieldbus protocol and TCP/IP to realize distributed control over IP network or internet. LonWorks technology provides networked intelligent I/O and controllers which make it a powerful, expandable solution. Connecting these remote Lon Works networks to the Internet can provide a powerful, integrated, distributed control system. This paper suggests a basic concept that be applied to distributed control over IP network or internet. Specially, Lonworks technology that used LonTalk protocol is reviewed as device network and ...

  • Control network adopted in the national power-plant or manufactory are mostly vendor-dependent products, which have their own special specification, components and individual communication methods. These systems not only raise installation cost, but also bring many difficulties to maintenance and extension. To overcome these problems, this paper introduces a development and application case of a new "PC/Ethernet-based fieldbus" architecture and protocol to be used in mid-level fieldbus. The designed system has a basic idea of "3 Layers fieldbus over Standard-LAN" and implemented on PCs. PC gives user friendly environment. By using an open standard Ethernet in layer 1,2, the system has low cost, wide communication bandwidth and high compatibility. Layer 3 protocol designed for large realtime data communication makes user bypass TCP/IP layer and gives user direct access to the Ethernet. This new protocol eliminates potential collision of Ethernet, and transmits large periodic/non-periodic control data by using long-frame/wide-bandwidth of Ethernet effectively, and offers simple API-Services to the upper layer. Since the system have installed in H-power plant simulator and U-nuclear power plant simulator in Korea, it have been proved to be efficient and stable without any trouble in realtime communication service for full-scope plant simulator that has a lot of control elements.

  • Recently, due to Industry 4.0, there is a great interest in smart factory for productivity improvement and customer satisfaction in manufacturing industry, and construction is also actively pursued by government support. In particular, data integration and fieldbus communication technology to build an efficient production system are essential. Fieldbus is an open control system that is not tied to a specific vendor system and has various advantages such as compatibility with other products, accuracy of data transmission, and remote diagnosis. However, there are no educational equipment for training field buses, training courses and examples for practical training, and there are many limitations in improving the practical skills needed for building smart factories in the industrial field. Therefore, this study develops PLC based fieldbus education equipment and training course based on previous research results that selected PLC and communication technology suitable for domestic industry field for practical fieldbus training and develops the training program of Ethernet IP, Profibus DP, Modbus, CC-Link, and DeviceNet. In addition, it is confirmed that the control and remote diagnosis of distributed field devices are possible by data collection and monitoring.
