This study was carried out to develop of environmental risk assessments and the biosafety guide for Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean at LMO (Living Modified Organism) isolation field. In LMO quarantine area of National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, insect species diversities and population densities on vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and non-GM soybeans (Willams 82 and Seoritae) were investigated. A total of 17,717 individuals of 77 species from 8 orders were collected in LMO isolation field. In three type soybeans field, total of 5,250 individuals in Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean, 5,510 individuals in Willams 82, and 6,957 individuals in Seoritae were collected, respectively. There was no difference between the population densities of insect pests, natural enemies and other insects on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and Willams 82, while natural enemies density on Seoritae was higher than on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean, but insect pests density on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean was higher. These results provided the insects diversity for risk assessment survey of Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and suggested that the guideline could be useful to detect LMO crops.

The present study was undertaken to investigate modification in electrophysiological characteristics of cat dorsal horn cells resulting from carrageenin-induced inflammation. The followings were studied; 1) the time-course of changes in responses of the WDR (wide dynamic range) cell 1-3h after subcutaneous injection of carrageenin in its receptive field; 2) the responses of the same dorsal hern cells before and after induction of inflammation; 3) the effect of inflammation on the responsiveness of dorsal horn neurons to algogens (bradykinin & potassium); and 4) the effect of inflammation on the activity of WDR cell following administration of indomethacin and clonidine. Though responses of WDR neuron were increased dramatically during first 1h, the maximal enhancement was observed 3h after induction of inflammation especially by repetitive light tactile stimulus. Following carrageenin injection the majority of WDR neurons (10/15 units) showed enhanced responses to all the mechanical stimuli while in 3 cases responsiveness were intensified during activation by one tactile stimulus (brush or pressure). One cell was unaffected by inflammation and in another case the response was enhanced only to noxious stimulus. Five of 9 cells that could initially be driven by noxious stimulus were activated more strongly by same stimulus and even by tactile stimulus (pressure) following inflammation. In 2 cases neurons were sensitized only to noxious stimulus whereas in another 2 cells that did not show enhanced responses to noxious stimulus responses to light tactile stimulus (pressure) appeared after inflammation. Of 16 LT cells tested 6 responded to squeeze while 4 showed the characteristics of WDR cell following inflammation. No modification in responsiveness was recognized in 3 cells whereas response to only brush was enhanced in another 3 neurons. Following carrageenin injection responses of LT cell to bradykinin or $K^{+}$ were not altered whereas those of WOR neurons to bradykinin or $K^{+}$ were suppressed in 22.2% and 33.3% of cases, respectively. In two of 8 activity of HT cells were inhibited by bradykinin while in five of 8 responsiveness to $K^{+}$ were rather enhanced by inflammation. In the rest inflammation was ineffective. In inflammation-induced animal the receptive field of LT cell was not changed whereas those of WDR cell and HT cell were tremendously expanded. The enhanced responses of WDR neurons to mechanical stimuli resulted from inflammation were suppressed by intravenously injected indomethacin and clonidine suggesting that postaglandin is involved in inflammation-induced sensitization of these cells. The involvement of peripheral and central mechanisms in the modification in responsiveness of dorsal horn cells in the carrageenin-induced inflammation was discussed.

In this paper we propose a dark-field digital holographic microscopy system based on 360-degree oblique illumination. This setup is constructed without using a dark-field objective. The principle of 360-degree oblique illumination of vortex beam and dark-field digital holographic microscopy are introduced theoretically and experimentally. By analyzing the reconstructed image of a dark-field digital hologram of a USAF 1951 target, it is proved that the imaging resolution can be improved by this method. And also, comparison and analysis are made on the reconstructed image of a bright-dark field digital hologram of a pumpkin stem slice, the result shows that the imaging contrast is also enhanced with this method, and it is effective for dark-field digital holographic microscopy imaging of large transparent biological samples.
A clear bipolar (negative/positive) signature in the Ey component was observed by the Cluster satellite in the magnetotail during a sudden impulse (si) on October 11, 2001 (day 284). During the interval of the negative perturbation in Ey, the magnetic field strength in Bx, a dominant magnetic field component, was nearly constant. However, the amplitude of Bx was strongly enhanced during the positive Ey perturbation. We suggest that the observed E and B field variations are due to outward/inward plasma motions, associated with expanded and then compressed magnetopause variations. We also observed quasi-periodic geomagnetic perturbations in the Pc5 band (∼1-6 mHz) at the low-latitude ground station Kakioka (L = 1.25) following the si event. They were highly correlated with the magnetic field perturbations at Cluster in the magnetotail (Xgse = ∼12 Re). We show that the source of these perturbations is the quasi-periodic solar wind pressure variations moving tailward.
In order to investigate field emission mechanism of undoped polycrystalline diamond films, diamond films with different structural properties were deposited by varying positive substrate bias and/or $CH_4$ concentration. When increasing $CH_4$ concentration and positive substrate bias voltage, nondiamond carbon content in diamond films increased. Increase of nondiamond carbon content with increasing substrate voltage is ascribed to increase of substrate and excess generation of $CH_n$ radicals. Field emission properties of undoped polycrystalline diamond films ere significantly enhanced with increasing nondiamond carbon content. For diamond films with a small amount of nondiamond carbon, electrons are emitted through diamond surface while for the films with a large amount of nondiamond carbon, electron emission occurs through diamond bulk as well as surface. From this study, depending on nondiamond carbon content two field emission mechanisms were suggested.
This paper discusses the evaluation of the safety impact of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system in Korea. To evaluate the safety impact, this paper suggests an analysis method by using the test scenario and field operational test data. The test scenario is composed to represent the main component factor of the ACC system and ACC related accident situation such as rear-end collision, lane-change, and road-curvature, etc. Also, from the field operation test data, the system's potential to increase the safety can be measured ideally. Besides, field operational testdata was used to revise the expected safety impact value as Korean road conditions. By using the proposed evaluation method, enhanced safety impact of the ACC system can be estimated scientifically.
The effects of the magnetic field and gas pressure on the etching characteristics were investigated in the axial magnetic field enhanced RIE system. This system has many advantages compared with the conventional RIE system ; the capability of operating at low pressure, low self-bias voltage, high electron density and high etch rate in the low pressure, but also has disadvantages such as the nonconformity of plasma density which intensifies as the magnitude of magnetic field increases. To overcome this problem we made some grooved anode and tried to find the optimal pressure and B-field strength.
Since the efforts in transportation for counteracting Climate Change have been enhanced, it is necessary to reduce GHG emissions from railroad construction. The aim of this study was to develop the calculation method of GHG emissions at the step of railroad construction. Main emission source was the energy consumption from the used heavy equipments. Firstly, GHG inventory including equipments list, energy consumption, and work load was established with the detailed process using standard for the unit cost of construction. Also, the energy consumption of heavy equipments during track construction at A site was collected to compare with the field data. As a result, the GHG emissions between the estimated and the field were a little different, which was caused by the inaccurate field data. Therefore, it is important to manage data efficiently for the calculation of GHG emissions in the field of railroad construction.

The scanning laser source (SLS) technique has been proposed recently as an effective way to investigate small surface-breaking defects, By monitoring the amplitude and frequency changes of the ultrasound generated as the SLS scans over a defect, the SLS technique has provided enhanced signal-to-noise performance compared to the traditional pitch-catch or pulse-echo ultrasonic methods, An extension of the SLS approach to map defects in microdevices is proposed by bringing both the generator and the receiver to the near-field scattering region of the defects, To facilitate near-field ultrasound measurement, silicon microcantilever probes are fabricated using microfabrication technique and their acoustical characteristics are investigated, Then, both the laser-generated ultrasonic source and the microcantilever probe are used to monitor near-field scattering by a surface-breaking defect.

We have studied the field emission characteristics of diamond-like-carbon (DLC) films deposited by a layer-by-layer technique using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, in which the deposition of a thin layer of DLC and a CH4 plasma exposure on its surface were carried out alternatively. The hydrogen-free DLC can be deposited by CH4 plasma exposure for 140 sec on a 5 nm DLC layer. N2 gas-phase doping in the CH4 plasma was also carried out to reduce the work function of the DLC. The optimum [N2]/[CH4] flow rate ratio was found to be 9% for the efficient electron emission, at which the onset-field was 7.2 V/$\mu\textrm{m}$. It was found that the hydrogen-free DLC has a stable electron emitting property.
