In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package cheesesstacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. Spindles up to now, have been designed without considering the characteristics of dyeing liquid, focusing only on the geometric configuration which cause many problems such as lack of level dyeing. To improve the level dyeing and find the appropriate spindle configuration for the most effective dyeing process, this study examines the spindle flow-field in detail, using a computational method. Flow characteristics inside the spindle have been investigated with varying in porosity, porous diameter and the velocity of the flow. The results show that the total pressure of the flow through the spindle is used to overcome body force. The characteristics of the flow from the porous spindle could also be observed. Based on the results from this study, an effective spindle configuration for level-dyeing has been proposed.
This paper focuses on developing a new configuration on magnetorheological (MR) brake damper as prosthetic knee. Prosthetic knee uses magnetic fields to vary the viscosity of the MR fluid, and thereby its flexion resistance. Exerted transmissibility torque of the knee greatly depends on the magnetic field intensity in the MR fluid. In this study a rotary damper using MR fluid is addressed in which a single rotary disc will act as a brake while MR fluid is activated by magnetic field in different walking gait. The main objective of this study is to investigate a prosthetic knee with one activating rotary disc to accomplish necessary braking torque in walking gait via T-shaped drum with arc surface boundary and implementing of Newton's equation of motion to derive generated torque at the inner surface of the rotary drum. For this purpose a novel configuration of a T-shaped drum based on the effects of a material deformation process is proposed. In this new design, the T-shaped disc will increase the effective areas of influences in between drum and MR fluid together and the arc wall crushes the particles chains (fibrils) of the MR fluid together instead of breaking them via strain in a conventional MR brake. To verify the proposed MR brake, results of the proposed and conventional MR brakes are compared together and demonstrated that the resisting torque of the proposed MR brake is almost two times greater than that of the conventional brake.
For the metal complex of $d^1$ configuration with the octahedrally coordinated ligands, the crystal field parameter, 10Dq, is calculated from first principles within the framework of the crystal field theory. With the point charge model, the configuration interaction is introduced by use of the Shull-L$\"{o}$wdin functions. Through the Integral Hellmann-Feynman Theorem, the higher order effect is visualized. It is found that the higher order effect on 10Dq is about $50{\%}$ of the first order effect. Since 3d function is angularly undistorted and radially equally distorted in $E_g\;and\;T_{2g}$ states, due to the octahedral potential, the calculated 10Dq is still the unique parameter for the splitting.

A stereoscopic PIV (SPIV) measurement system based on the translation configuration was developed and applied to the flow behind a forward-swept axial-fan. Measurement of three orthogonal velocity components is essential for flow analysis of three-dimensional flows such as flow around a fan or propeller. In this study, the translation configuration was adopted to calculate the out-of-plane velocity component from 2-D PIV data obtained from two CCD cameras. The error caused by the out-of-plane motion was estimated by direct comparison of the 2-D PIV and 3-D SPIV results that measured from the particle images captured simultaneously. The comparison shows that the error ratio is relatively high in the region of higher out-of-plane motion near the axial fan blade. The turbulence intensity measured by the 2-D PIV method is bigger by about 5.8% in maximum compared with that of the 3-D SPIV method. The phase-averaged velocity field results show that the wake behind an axial fan has a periodic flow structure with respect to the blade phase and the characteristic flow structure is shifted downstream in the next phase.

The performance of passive conductor loop (hereinafter 'loop') method which is used to mitigate the magnetic field around overhead power transmission line is dependent on its configuration and installed location, which are affected by installation conditions of the loops such as objective areas and levels of magnetic field mitigation. Thus, because the design problem of loops is difficult and cumbersome by variety of their configuration and complexity of magnetic coupling mechanism, it is need to be formulated as a computer-based optimum problem to determine the most effective and reasonable loop model satisfying the installation conditions. In this paper, the optimum locations of the multi-wired multiple loops including series reactance compensations are searched by using the genetic algorithm (GA) to mitigate effectively the magnetic fields of relatively near points or far points from transmission line at Am height, and the magnetic fields mitigation characteristics of each loop are analyzed in the view of magnitude, direction and phase of cancellation fields by polarized vector concept to identify their adequacy and rationality for the installation objectives.
Buckling-restrained braces are passive control devices with high level of energy dissipation ability. However, they suffer from low post-yield stiffness which makes them vulnerable to severe ground motions, especially near-field earthquakes. Among the several methods proposed to improve resistance of BRB frames, mega-brace configuration can be a solution to increase frame lateral strength and stiffness and improve distribution of forces to prevent large displacement in braces. Due to the limited number of research regarding the performance of such systems, the current paper aims to assess seismic performance of BRB frames with mega-bracing arrangement under near-field earthquakes via a detailed probabilistic framework. For this purpose, a group of multi-story mega-BRB frames were modelled by OpenSEES software platform. In the first part of the paper, simplified procedures including nonlinear pushover and Incremental Dynamic Analysis were conducted for performance evaluation. Two groups of near-fault seismic ground motions (Non-pulse and Pulse-like records) were considered for analyses to take into account the effects of record-to-record uncertainties, as well as forward directivity on the results. In the second part, seismic reliability analyses are conducted in the context of performance based earthquake engineering. Two widely-known EDP-based and IM-based probabilistic frameworks are employed to estimate collapse potential of the structures. Results show that all the structures can successfully tolerate near-field earthquakes with a high level of confidence level. Therefore, mega-bracing configuration can be an effective alternative to conventional BRB bracing to withstand near-field earthquakes.
An accurate analytical equation for the total energy in the framework of the single domain model is used to study the thermal stability of nanostructured synthetic ferrimagnets. Elliptical cells are considered that have lateral dimensions of 160 nm (long axis)$\times$80 nm (short axis) and varying values of thickness asymmetry for the two magnetic layers. The direction of the applied magnetic field, which points to the $45^{\circ}$ direction, is in the opposite direction to the thicker layer magnetization. A significant difference is observed in the applied magnetic field dependencies of the equilibrium magnetic configuration and the magnetic energy barrier when using the simplifying assumption that the self-demagnetizing field is identical in magnitude to the dipole field. At a small thickness asymmetry of 0.2 nm, for example, the magnetic energy barrier is reduced from 68 kT (T=300 K) to 6 kT at the remanent state and a progressive switching behavior changes into a critical behavior, as the simplifying assumption is used. The present results clearly demonstrate the need for an accurate analytical equation for the total energy in predicting the thermal stability of nanostructured synthetic ferrimagnets.
This paper presents a new collison-free trajectory problem for SCARA robot manipulator. we use artificial potential field for collison detection and avoidance. The potential function is typically defined as the sum of attractive potential pulling the robot toward the goal configuration and a repulsive potential pushing the robot away from the obstacles. In here, end-effector of manipulator is represented as a particle in configuration space and moving obstacles is simply represented, too. we consider not fixed obstacle but moving obstacle in random. So, we propose new distance function of artificial potential field with moving obstacle for SCARA robot. At every sampling time, the artificial potential field is update and the force driving manipulator is derived from the gradient vector of artificial potential field. To real-time path planning, we apply very simple modeling to obstacle. Some simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Odor dispersion around a cubic building from rooftop odor emissions was investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The Shear Stress Transport (here after SST) $k-{\omega}$ model in FLUENT CFD code was used to simulate the flow and odor dispersion around a cubic building. The CFD simulations were performed for three different configurations of cubic buildings comprised of one building, two buildings or three buildings. Five test emission rates were assumed as 1000 OU/s, 2000 OU/s, 3000 OU/s, 4000 OU/s and 5000 OU/s, respectively. Experimental data from wind tunnels obtained by previous studies are used to validate the numerical result of an isolated cubic building. The simulated flow and concentration results of neutral stability condition were compared with the wind tunnel experiments. The profile of streamline velocity and concentration simulation results show a reasonable level of agreement with wind tunnel data. In case of a two-building configuration, the result of emission rate 1000 OU/s illustrates the same plume behavior as a one-building configuration. However, the plume tends to the cover rooftop surface and windward facet of a downstream building as the emission rate increases. In case of a three-building configuration, low emission rates (<4000 OU/s) form a similar plume zone to that of a two-building configuration. However, the addition of a third building, with an emission rate of 5000 OU/s, creates a much greater odorous plume zone on the surface of second building in comparison with a two-building configuration.
The major source of noise in the process of transporting liquids is related to the cavitation phenomenon. The control valve noise is mostly dominated by bubble dynamics under cavitating conditions. In this investigation, an orifice configuration is set-up to correlate its flow-field and acoustic signatures with those from a control valve device. The performance and noise characteristics form the orifice configuration in anechoic surroundings were measured to reveal the noise sources depending on pressure differences across the orifice configuration. The sound powers from the orifice configuration are effectively normalized using proposed scaling parameters. Flow-excited dynamic systems for which there is no strong coupling between the flow and the system response can be described using a linear source-filter model. On this assumption, the normalized sound powers can be decomposed of noise source function and a response function. To find noise sources, pressure spectra measured over a range of pressure differences are transformed into the product of two non-dimensional frequency function : $P_{ss}(He,f_{ca},x/D) = F(f_{ca})\;G(He,x/D)$. This scheme of finding noise sources is shown to be applicable to the cavitation noise from the control valve effectively Two kinds of cavitating modes based on our experimental data are found and discussed.
